    For all reviewers casting shade on the presenter for being “too excited”, she’s presenting information on a windy day, standing next to a race track with race cars howling by. What part of the title did you miss? Maybe you’d enjoy some reviews by bird watchers.

    Amy, i have ordered the A7III to go along with my A7RIII and my A6500. (A7III only $2000 in US) I have been doing motor racing photography for forty years. Cheers !

    Would have like to have seen some shots at 1/250, 1/200 or 1/160 as I try to photograph bikes and cars at these shutter speeds with my 70D. So we get some motion blur on the background or the wheels. Still an interesting video, I would be embarassed to use 1/1250 for motorsports.

    • @blakeparry1983
      @blakeparry1983 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      She's clearly not a motorsports photographer, but to be honest it doesnt matter here as its a camera review rather than a review of her skills

      I wasn't having a go at the lady, it's a good review. Using lower shutter speeds would just have been usefull to have seen. I am by no means a photography expert and don't pretend to be.

      Interesting that you say that, as someone who only got their first DSLR a year ago I've been on a very steep learning curve and as I'm also studying for a Motorsport Engineering Degree I hope to combine my two hobbies and shoot some motorsport. Plenty of guides I read suggest using greater than 1/1000 for motorsport unless you are specifically going for a panning shot with motion blur. Not arguing with you, just saying it's interesting to see your POV is very different o what I had seen elsewhere.

    Nice hands-on field test video of the a7III. I did expect a bit more in-depth discussion of the hands-on experience and less extolling about the camera body features, however the video was very informative, How difficult was it to navigate the menus in the daylight and set the camera with them? Did Amy's hands get tired clutching the camera? In some of the video segments I kept having the impression it might slip out of her hand. How many battery changes were required during the hands-on? Was the viewfinder video lag perceptible or was it mitigated because of the accuracy of the camera to track the subject and less reliance on the photographer?

    Is there any chance you could share a couple of Raws from this shoot?
    I’m currently a Fujifilm shooter, and do mostly motor sports, but I’m currently having a big rethink about my gear now that I’ve sold off Fuji’s 100-400mm that I wasn’t the biggest fan of, and since I see the upcoming 200mm is going to be far out of budget. I have an X-H1 on its way to me since I’m usually using my X-T2 with Fuji’s larger glass and would welcome the larger grip and slightly faster AF, but I’m thinking of sending it back and making some changes given the selection of glass in the focal lengths I need in the Fuji system. Taking a good long look at Sony after this really impressive A7 III announcement and Tamron and Sigma jumping into the FE lens game - getting my hands on some examples of how the camera performs in my exact use case would be super helpful!

    Well, no one can fault your enthusiasm. The only thing reviewers are failing to mention is the overall high cost of migrating to Sony. Yes this body in particular is at a great price, but what about glass? Sony native lenses are very expensive. Hopefully the news that both Sigma and Tamron are going to release Sony mount glass is encouraging, but right now it’s an expensive move.

      Do you still get 10fps with the mechanical shutter? If so, are there any disadvantages to using the mechanical shutter instead of the electronic, besides it not being silent? I am coming from Nikon and just do not know much about the mechanical vs. electronic shutters with the Sony cameras. Thank you!

    Good overview Amy, well presented. It looks a good all-rounder for stills and video. I own the Nikon D600 for now and that has 24MP & I feel that is the sweet spot for full-frame resolution giving a good balance of detail, dynamic range, and lower noise at higher ISO settings. That Sony even seems to lock on well to the cars through the fence which is good. Does anyone know if there will be a battery grip option for the Sony A7 III?

    • @Drygore

    AF Track Duration is not quite what she describes. It is the time the camera sticks to the object it tracks before it moves to an object in front if such passes in front. It works both in lock on and normal tracking. In other words how "sticky" it is.

    It sounds like a fantastic camera, but £2,000 is not a low price point! Add a 24-70 Sony f2.8 FE G Master lens for another £2000, and the Sony 70-200 f4 you show here is £1250.

    • @cytomatrix

      Seamus, the glass you're quoting does costs a little more than the Canon equivalent, but it's MUCH sharper and much better. You can also shoot Canon glass with a Sigma MC-11 adapter if you so desire. The AF area changes slightly, but still incredibly fast.

    • @DeusExAstra
      @DeusExAstra 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's certainly not cheap, but then again try to get a comparable camera from Nikon or Canon for the same price. They dont even have such a camera, and the closest they DO have featurewise are at least $1500 more expensive.

    • @seamusandpat
      @seamusandpat 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wasn't comparing the Sony's many merits with other brands at all. Sony have targeted that market for FF pro and amateur and unless Canon and Nikon can do something soon, Sony will win. It's just that £2000 is not a low price point. The Sony A7 III looks to be a killer camera, and I would buy one if I had that much money available!

    • @seamusandpat
      @seamusandpat 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Couldn't agree with you more, there is some scope for Canon legacy and independent lenses woth A7 III. If I were in the market, say moving up from APS-C, I would definitely try to afford it for a lot of reasons to with performance and size. The A7 III is a hell of a camera. But whichever way you look at it, it is not low price point.

    There is no doubt that the Sony A7iii is an amazing camera for £2,000 so it is cheap enough.
    It is also $2,000 in the US, so us Brit's are being be charged more again. There is a reason why the UK is known as Treasure Island !
    Any way I went off piste, we're so y are going to make their money is in the lenses. The G master range are insanely expensive. So us canon owners are happy that L grade lenses will work on the A7iii with the sigma MC-11 adapter. Now sigma have announced a large number of E mount Art grade lenses for Sony camera's. There is almost no reason not to buy the A7iii over 6Dii.
    Cameras now are becoming jack of all trades and do not need to specialise at all. The purists may hate video on camera, well it is here to stay and it is going to become as important on a camera as a still is.
    Before the A7iii came out my FF purchase was going to be 6Dii, now it will be the A7iii
    May only negative point is that the A7iii should have included an intervalometer .

    • @TheEulerID
      @TheEulerID 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Whilst the US price is lower, bear in mind that in the UK prices are quoted including 20% VAT whilst in the US prices are quoted without sales tax (presumably because sales taxes vary by state).
      So that difference is about 16% (pre-tax) rather than the 40% higher it appears to be.

    • @tysonator5433
      @tysonator5433 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steve Jones
      UK VAT tax is 20%
      Therefore the stripped down retail price in UK is apt £1,666
      What is the average US value Added Tax on electronic goods ?
      E en taking I to account currency fluctuation the UK is still more expensive.

    • @TheEulerID
      @TheEulerID 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      They call it sales tax and it varies not just be state but sometimes by local rates within a state. From what I read it's never more than 10%.

    Best review I have seen of the A7 iii so far, not spouting about 4K etc etc more about taking pictures well done Amy.
    Some thoughts.
    Sony has distinct advantage over the other manufactures in that all the full frame cameras are all basically the same case, with some basic changes to the guts.
    A very lean manufacturing process, Canikon on the other hand choose to make all completely different cameras, with separate casting moulding pcbs etc etc.
    you get the picture. Sony possible did this trick initially to save on cost.
    It has now proved as shown here to be there trump card.
    Canikon Options
    1 Perhaps a change in the production process to dare I say it the Sony model,
    one body design with 4 sensor option.
    2 potentially Canon and Nikon could share the same castings and parts across there comparable ranges
    D5 and the 1DX
    5D and the D800 series.
    Somehow don’t think so.

    Loved the review, the Brands Hatch Circuit as an online iRacer, and I think Sony is going to steal some current Nikon/Canon FF Users, maybe this Fujifilm shooter will purchase the a7III with one lens for landscape/cityscape to get used to the ecosystem. I sold my Canon 5DMkIV gear last year and bought into the Fujifilm system because I wanted mirrorless, along with less weight, given my age.

      @SPDTDL 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does

    • @TheEulerID
      @TheEulerID 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Moire is a significant issue with lower resolution sensors which is why there's an AA filter on this one (and the A9). The reason higher resolution sensors have less need for AA filters is that they start to out-resolve the glass and that usually provides enough slight blurring at the pixel level that it works for most types of shots (and a tiny bit of camera shake helps too). Smaller sensors with necessarily finer photosite spacing also benefit the same way - that is they get enough slight blurring that an AA filter isn't required.

    • @N9524Q
      @N9524Q 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the detailed explanation

    • @TheEulerID
      @TheEulerID 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's usually a reason why things are the way they are. Most of the time an AA filter isn't required, but it can really become apparent when photographing things with repeated, fine patterns. Things like the weave patterns on fabrics or distant, tiled roofs. On the other hand, it will never show up on something like a natural landscape so it's a bit of a compromise.

      Even with the cheapest dslr it`s possible to pan and to lock the autofocus with 1/250 sec. So it shouldn`t be a problem with the A7 III.

    are you joking or what? Canon 5D IV is not even comparable to this and costs 1500 more, Sony Gseries? now Sigma announced 9 Art lenses Sony Emount...Tamron will do the same shortly...and more to come, so what you're talking about. At this price point there's nothing, and i state it again, nothing comparable to what Sony is offering with the A7 III

      D750 is better for less cash. Twice the battery life, better AF, a real viewfinder (notice how she's shooting the camera like a mobile phone ..). And if the Sony AF is so good these days, I want to see them test the camera in actual low light where the DSLR lives, not in full daylight, like they also used to test the Samsung NX1 (they as in reviewers), that was also supposed to kill the DSLR, or fake low light lit by big softboxes, like in their press events, where they simulate low light but the settings are ISO6400, f/5.6 and 1/400 and there are big softboxes with videolights in them lol. My D750 casually nails focus in light 4-5 stops dimmer.

      @tubechap8424 6 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      You must be the only person on the planet that thinks the D750 is better than this camera. Any way I hope to see some comparisons between this Sony and some Nikon and Canon competitors so we can see about the focus performance, battery life,Viewfinder, etc. I wont even mind seeing how it goes up against a 5Div and D850. I have the feeling it can stand its ground.

      @nicolaiecostel 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Nah, I'm actually an experienced photographer, not a spec reader. The fact that a camera has 4k and a million focus points means squat for a photographer.

    • @tubechap8424
      @tubechap8424 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      All of the reviewers with large followings on TH-cam are experienced photographers and not "Spec readers". 4K means something to someone making videos or hybrid shooters and there many of them out there . More focus point just make your work a little easier in some situations. Its all about making your workflow easier thats all.

    • @dottorcarlone
      @dottorcarlone 6 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      4k means nothing for a photographer I pass that, but are you joking about the AF or are you a beginner photographer?Say that to sport or wildlife or portrait, or wedding photographers... I'm a professional photographer and having an autofocus so advanced even more than the 5dmkIV , that covers almost the whole sensor allowing me no need to recompose when I shoot portraits, or eye tracking! or continuous tracking on the whole sensor, and face recognition, MEANS EVERYTHING. Whitout counting the other technologies this camera packs for only 2000 dollars.

    At last someone did a sports test of the A7 III. We all know how good the eye AF of the A7III is and how good it is for portraits, but it is equally (dare I say even more better) for sports and wildlife. We just need more such videos testing the A7III with high speed sports, wildlife and Birds in flight. Hope someone makes a good comprehensive video about how good/bad a camera this one is for wildlife/BIF.
    Please don't stereotype this camera a wedding/portrait camera just because it has an excellent eye AF and was released at WPPI. You aren't doing justice to the versatile capabilities of this one.

    • @anulearntech
      @anulearntech 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Any particular reason why?. I know there will be some differences in performance and speed of this one when compared with the A9, but with same no of AF points, even more CDAF points and 10 FPS, it's hard to say it underperforms by a lot compared to the A9, rather it seems pretty close to it.... - for less than half the price. Some even say that it beats the A7RIII in the AF department.

    • @felixbelanger2659
      @felixbelanger2659 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really, but I assume that part of it is because it's a FF sensor with native lenses up to 400mm which is not much reach...

    • @anulearntech
      @anulearntech 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Felix Belanger okay, but here the form factor is to be blamed for giving around 11 mp apsc equivalent, and so all full frames except A7R, d850 etc are culprits here.

    • @felixbelanger2659
      @felixbelanger2659 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, full frame often has a disadvantage for wildlife, but Canon and Nikon both have 600mm lenses. I just re-watched a video they did (look for $30,000 wildlife shootout) and Tony says near the end of the video that while the A7R III's AF with an adapter is snappy but it's not very reliable, so maybe there's that too.

    coming from Canon where company before releasing their camera should be carefully calculated not to step on their own toes. All that transition are worth it. knowing that the company such as Sony, fuji panasonic and olumpus are renovating.

    emotionally one-sided,, NO SINGLE negative!! Yes, the a7 III is an amazing camera for the price (and yes, I have pre-ordered it, no doubt but you're only telling features and all the positives. Subpar lcd display (compared to both the A7R III and A7R II), AA filter, dual card slot but only 1 is UHS2, lack of timelapse or lack of replacement for the app store that Sony abandoned), and new Z battery is excellent but expensive w/o third party, no articulating screen, + more. No RAW available yet so IQ is based on jpeg. Some folks might say that this is an entry level camera so these features are irrelevant. $2,000 + lenses to me seems PRO or PROsumer enough to justify having all the features mentioned above. Thank you for putting the work in the video, but it's rather one-sided in my opinion.

    • @WexPhotoVideo
      @WexPhotoVideo  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Jack, thanks for the feedback. In regards to a few of your points, I own an A7R II and I found this screen (although there are less dots than the 'R') to be slightly better at accurately representing the final image. This is, of course, just personal experience so may be different for other users. Also the screen is tiltable the same as the A7R II and III as well as being a touch screen.
      The new Z battery was an absolute must have for increased battery life. They may be more expensive then the previous batteries, however the life is significantly longer, so you shouldn't have to buy as many in the course of owning the camera. RAW is available through the Sony Imaging Edge software and IQ was based on the Raws that were then converted to Jpegs in most instances for this video.
      Having dual SD card slots is a positive and only having one that is UHS-II compatible is not unexpected for the price point. I understand the camera doesn't have everything, like time-lapse, but for the money it has a lot!
      I hope you enjoy your camera when it arrives!
      Kind regards
      Amy Moore

      Jack Moore the title clearly states it’s a hands on test at a race circuit. How did you get confused and think she would instead present a calmly presented objective camera review? I’m gonna go out on a hunch and guess you’ve never presented information on camera while standing alongside a noisy race track talking over car engines and what looks like 10-15kts of wind.

      Hi Jack, Amy. I'm in the process of switching to Sony from Canon. There's no doubt the A73 is good and the A7 range sets a new standard. I'll be using the A9 and A7 in conjuntion with GM lenses. Jack makes a great point that the review is one sided. The review is uploading by Wex Photo Video not an individual and should be totally objective . Sony are using the price as a huge selling point but their lenses are very expensive. Amy, you state that you own a A7R 11 and by now I'd guess you've upgraded but to be objective you need to look at it from a different brand user... This is a balanced review th-cam.com/video/Ric_RH-Xm1Q/w-d-xo.html
