The same here... There is one about an hour from where I live, my room mates and I enjoy going every so often. The prices are well more than a dollar per plate, but still pretty reasonable and it's nice to try a variety of dishes. I wish we had a lot of these options. They do the gatchapon prizes differently too. Instead of a chance every five plates they will show a short animation themed around whatever characters were being offered as prizes and the sushi chef character. After a few of them shown you would automatically get a prize.

I must be one of the few people who's thinking "phone... entertainment... when you're at a restaurant???"
Personally, I believe going to a restaurant is one of those times you DON'T use your phone. Assuming you're not going alone, Is the other person / people you're going with not entertainment enough?
Maybe I'm too opinionated but if someone whipped their phone out mid-conversation or something, I'd consider that rude. We're too attached to technology.

Kura is a great experience if you'd like to expand your sushi palette but omg it was a hassle being a worker there. You constantly had to worry about the conveyer belt being full while customers would order 4 items at a time even though you were already backed up trying to fill the empty conveyer belt. If you go to one of these places PLEASE finish your plates first instead of ordering a barrage of plates to the point where you can't even put them on the table. We've had customers do this to the point where other customers couldn't get their orders because the delivery conveyer belt would be backed up with food that people ordered but haven't taken off yet because they ordered so much that nothing else fits on their table so then it ends up backing up the entire kitchen because of 1 table.

The Kura Sushi that we go to near Washington, D.C. area usually takes 15 plates to win a prize. Also, the price per plate for us is $3.30 USD before tax ($3.50 USD after tax). Green tea is also not complimentary. Only ice water.

Same high prices in Schaumburg, Illinois. Huge disappointment. But there was a different, non-Kura conveyor belt place nearby that is better. Look for an independent restaurant.

This restaurant is a winner, you get to try all kinds of sushi with no fuss, they didn't bother with vegetables. The keychain was actually something I'd use.

I didn't know sushi could come with beef and pork instead of fish! That's good to know for allergies and stuff. If I ever visit Japan again I'll have to stay on the lookout for sushi places that do non-fish options!

In the US Kura has been opening more and more places and I really enjoy going, but I feel like they should have kept the Japanese way of things a bit more. All of ours lack the hot water and green tea at the table, and the entire restaurant is a lot smaller.
Though I will say they have actually started putting the wasabi at the table now in that little jar, it use to be you had to ask for it to be brought out and they brought it on a plate to you. So I hold out hope that they will get the green tea at the table.

We have one of these restaurants here in Dallas (Plano, to be precise) and I need to get out there more often, because it's really good. Cheap and tasty and they make pretty good ramen while they're at it. After 5 or 6 plates, a bowl of ramen, and dessert, on average? I'm usually good to go and I get out for relatively cheap. Next time I go to Japan, whenever that is, I'm seeking this out because it's even cheaper than it is here in the US!

I like that there non fish items like the beef and onion rings as well as sushi. That it was $32 US is pretty cool as well. Like the concept.
