I simply love the sound of putting in the gears on the sportster Forty Eight and the lower seat ( I am only 158 cm high ). So I am forever in Love with the 48 Sportster. ❤

Been training at the boat ramp for the past month and she handled my bike with confidence. She took the Sportster for a 30 mile solo ride this pass Monday without incident.

Perhaps Harley could look at what Triumph did with their Bonneville range. They had to introduce watercooling as well but did it in such a way that the engines and bikes kept more or less similar profiles. Not only that but they vastly increased the model range as well.

I own my dream bike. It's a 2019 48, with a Stage 3. I test rode the Nightster 975 and Sporster S. I can honestly say that I would never trade my 48 for either model. One thing I found bothersome on the new bikes was the tiny shifter peg and rear brake pedal.
I have a Harley Davidson breakout and a Harley-Davidson heritage classic, I'm debating on selling both of my bikes because of all the crazy drivers, every day I almost get hit by a lunatic driver on the phone!!! Be careful out there guys!!

May be better in every measurable way.
But gimme that 1200 any day. Those new revolution motors sound like ass. Like every other bike on the market.
What makes HD special is the Look, feel, sound, heritage.. U know you’re on something special .. even tho there are tons on the road.
I’d not want to ride anything else.
I do understand the MoCo needs to stay alive with new stuff like the nightster and Pan-Am.. but I’ll always want the big air cooled motor, big cam(s), loud pipes.. love it !
That being said the pan am is BAD ASS. I’m not an ADV guy but if I was .. no question what I’d get. I love it bc it’s not trying to be a “revolution” of the Hd cruiser. I’ve seen ppl using the pan am as more of a road bike than off-road and i hear they’re dope for long trips too.

I have a 2020 Sportster 1200 iron. Black on black. 3 upgrades, windscreen, sissy bar, saddle seat. Crash bars, bought and paid for but on backorder (tentatively, august).
Thank you, I am in the process of trying to make up my mind. I am thinking of getting rid of my 883 and getting a Nightster. I’m just not sure I like the sound of the Nightster. This gave me more information.
Give me the 48 any day but with the super low tank! In other words keep your 90HP and riding modes. Give me METAL

I've modified my 1200c a bit. I have 80 hp out of it without cams or rebuild yet. But im looking at 6k to get 100hp. So a revolution bike is a very real consideration.
I agree with you on the looks. I would have tried to keep the older look as much as possible while adding the new motor and technology. Things like adding the fins to the motor and cleaning up the left side.
I think this is a good repacement for the previous 500 and 750. Seeing the end of the sportster is the end of an era. Makes me want a 48. Kind of looks like the indian scout to me.

I have a 2011 Sportster 48 and I love it, not my first bike but it is my first Harley-davidson. I have to agree that I think had Harley kept the classic style just introduced the revolution engine and modern features they will be more popular, just my opinion.
I got a 2018 forty-eight. Love the bike and it made for a perfect first bike.

Well Jerry, I'll have you know that HD has trademarked the name "48X" about two years ago, which means there is a new Revolution Max Sportster 48 being produced in the near future. Let's hope it doesn't get butchered, but your hopes for the new motor in a bike that looks like the Sportster 48 may not be just a dream!

Have to agree with you on the styling, Jerry. Unfortunately, our opinions on that are a bit at odds with those of the average twenty or thirty-something target buyer of the new generation of Harleys. And honestly, they DID hold out as long as they could. Ain't it fun being dinosaurs? LOL
Nah these bikes are not going to appeal to the 20-30 year old. I can buy a Suzuki gsx s1000 GT+ for same price, and tour the country with 150hp saddle bags, cruise control, tft display with mapping, Up and down quickshifter

I don't like fly by wire and all the computer controls. I can't fix a FBW bike myself without bringing it to the stealership to reprogram the bike.. The Nightster sounds like a sewing machine when it's idling😂. My 03'XL1200 would be left in the dust by the new model. I loved my Sporty, but the vibration was hurting me after 2hrs riding. My bone stock 02' Deuce is the most comfortable easy handling bike I've ever owned. She's no rocket, but who cares. it's like sitting in an EZ chair going 80mph. My bike looks huge, sitting next to a new soft tail. 😂
Sounds like the primary gear whine from a Kawasaki 900 or kz1000.

Been waiting for Harley to stop looking to the future and start selling it. Traditionalists will decry the liquid cooling bla bla bla and that’s fine they have many traditional air cooled bikes but this is a blend of some really good newer tech and yet still a Harley. A few changes for myself starting with the anemic exhaust and horn. Need some pull back risers or different bars. Mama needs accommodations. And the seat remains to be seen if I keep it or see what the aftermarket comes up with. Also that plastic cover on the airbox up top. Betting there will be a lot of custom pieces for that. Personally I’d like stainless spoked wheels with black hubs and rims. But I like it. 38 yrs riding so over the years I have a love/hate relationship with various models but this one fits the bill for me. See what spring time brings me
i like how the nightster looks a lot but i can’t get over the sound of a classic harley, i’ll probably get the 48 for the sound and add mods to make it feel better

The nearest Indian dealer is 70 miles away. The last time I went there with an appointment to ride one of their bikes, the manager told me when I arrived, Sorry, the bikes at another dealership. That was the last time I went to that dealer. The next closest Indian dealer is 120 miles away. There are 2 Harley dealers within 20 miles of me and they allow me to ride any of their bikes any time.

90 HP, never used more than 30 on the ride. If you want to go 120 on an open bike, you're a glutton for punishment. All those computer features like traction control and riding modes, the thing probably has a wired throttle. It all adds up to complexity and trouble after enough miles.
The Sportster is a bare machine. It looks better (The Nightster with its large radiator, plastic engine covers and goofy non gas tank is basically uggo), sounds better (especially with a set of slip ons (Rush), is easier to maintain and modify, and has a million aftermarket goodies to choose from to make it fit you.
They're dropping the Sportsters over emission regs and Gen Z preferences. I got me one, so go ahead, make it a collector's item H-D. Thanks!

How does the sportster 48 compare to an 2021 XL883N. I just bought the 883. I bought it used with 779 miles. I haven't rode for 5 to 6 years. I was riding a Susuzk 805 touring bike. I'm waiting on the tag right to arrive right now. A huge difference. I only rode my new bike around the block several times. The friction zone is sensitive. I think I should take a refresher course.
Main differences between an 883 and a 48:
Seat on the 883 is cushier, 48's is more flat/aggressive.
883 has mid controls, 48 has forwards.
48 is more powerful but has a smaller gas tank, holds a gallon and change less gas so your range is about 50 miles less, give or take.
The 883 is geared a touch more aggressively down low to compensate for its lesser power off the line, meaning the 48 will be slightly better at speed, but neither are upper range/highway bikes.
Every 48 has gloss black front and rear fenders, the only color difference on them will be on the tank.
Front tire on the 48 is wider which is a little more forgiving in bumps but also takes a little more effort to steer.

I gotta disagree. I can tell the difference in the sound in the video that the sportster sounds more like a harley. also it has more the harley look. when I look at a bike im not looking for modern bullshit, but I also know times are changing. still can't beat the reliability of the older bikes. as a mechanic I learned the more you modern something up the more problems it will give you. just like the emmition systems on modern diesels. I have never been a sportster guy because I am far to fat for that lol. but I do know that when people go to looking for a used bike they will not be looking for the nightster. they may settle for it, but not what they are looking for. they will want reliability, and in the case of a harley, they will want that look and sound. personally I will hang on to my 2003 softail.

@@motorman857 Idk how he did it because I only stopped for gas and I was cruising, full throttle, at 100 mph. Mine was a 2020. I upgraded for a Street Bob 114, this year.
I like the updated features on the Nightster, but the EVO sounds WAY better than the sewing machine sound of the Rev Max engine. A pipe to open the Nightster up would be on the list immediately upon purchase.
I agree. I would think H.D. could have done a much better job with the stock exhaust sound than they did. I had a 2012 Bonneville that also sounded like a sewing machine. Then I had a 2020 Bonneville Bobber with the same motor that sounded way better than the 2012 despite even worse government restrictions.
I don't think the 48 or Iron are going away. I think they are going to remain unchanged and be around for a long time.

Yeah, the Nightster sounds just like my Sportster S. I like the dash on the Sportster S better than the Nightster... but, the Nightster isn't bad, at least you have rpm in the odometer window.
The Sportster 48 does have that classic look; I wish they had put the two together with the Nightster having the classic look, but the modern platform. But, we are comparing liquid cooled vs air-cooled. Its harder to make the liquid cooled bike 'look' classic.... I don't know, the Nightster has a 'fake' virtual tank, it could also have 'fake' virtual cooling fins !

I just did the comparison myself my 06 1200 custom vs the 975 - 1st impressions - no comparison the 975 wins everything every time , but the complex bells & whistles of the 975 may be its downfall if anything ever breaks it will cost a fortune - now how do you install the Pan America's 150 hp 1250 cc engine in the 975
Just checked on the HD website and the Nightster is $1200 more MRSP than the Forty Eight.

The Nightster comes standard with ABS and security system. Equipped the same, and counting freight and surcharge, $14,574 for the Nightster and $14,658 for the Sportster 48. So the Nightster is 84 bucks LESS than the 48
Like the 48, shame it's the end of the line and there's no replacement. The Nightster and Sportster S can go on your list of sales flops.
The nightster may be a better riding and running bike, and it may be the future, but the look of the engine lacks any charisma. The radiator draws your attention, which it shouldn’t.

Harley Davidson really should rethink retiring Evo Sportster Models.
First, we need to retire the morons in Washington and Brussels who keep justifying their jobs by tightening the emissions regulations every year.

More revs mean more horsepower. I think I would buy the Nightster over the Sportster S. It fast enough at 95 horsepower.
I'm curious how they were only able to get 90 h.p. out of a 975cc engine. Should have been at least 130.

Because of the nature of liquid cooled motors and dual overhead cams. They sounds "like harleys" because they are harleys. They just sound like different harleys.

I think they both suck. I'm not sure if it's your mike but it sounds like a Honda 250 from 1970's. I prefer the look of the Sportster 883's and 1200's. By the way...do they come with pedals so when you run out of gas you can ride it like a bicycle to the gas station?
