Slit Mouthed - 口裂け女 is based on a famous Japanese urban legend called The Slit Mouthed Woman, staying true to the legend while adding our own twist to it we are certain that you will enjoy the gameplay.

I've always heard that the way around the kuchisake onna was to tell her you were very busy with something and didn't have time to answer her question. So basically treat her like a demon telemarketer and quickly walk away lol
My favorite part of this urban legend is that one of the ways to survive an encounter with her is to respond to the question with "you're so-so" or "average" and that apparently baffles her so much you have time to run away, which like... girl same I'd be so offended too. Alternatively you can throw hard candies at her and she'll stop to count them all. Incidentally I would also stop whatever I was doing to pick up free snacks.
Maybe she's more relatable than I thought.
You can also say "pomade" thrice to repel her
And the third is you ask from her are you pretty, so she gets confused and she has to think the answer.
Can't you also ask her, "Do you think I'M pretty?"
“A quiet night” is the security version of “what could go wrong?”
If Project Zero/Fatal Frame has taught me anything, it's that the last thing you want to be in a J-horror game is an author specializing in folklore/urban legends; Kazuki never stood a chance. This game could definitely use some improvement, but I really liked the setting and it was a nice enough take on the Kuchisake-onna.
All folklorists in those games are automatically doomed. The only way to survive is to be a young, female protagonist with psychic powers, but even then it's only a SHOT.
I remember that legend! Supposily can throw her off for a chance to escape by answering You look average or normal.. not ugly or beautiful basically. Not noticing her scars.
When you hear her up on the "roof garden", she's asking "Am I still pretty?", just like the urban legend.
J-horror usually gives me the shivers. Despite high hopes, this game really didn't deliver. I did like the voice acting, the lore, and the fact that the protagonist had a valid reason for being in the Kazuki mansion. And a flashlight.🔦😅 Beyond that, I agree that it was just "average."
I agree it wasn't very scary, but I liked it for the same reasons you did, and the Japanese setting as a whole :)

-The shodo (Japanese calligraphy) that's on a lot of the walls says "Aikido" or the Japanese word for martial arts
-7:34 I think most people can recognize the art on the shoji (screen divider thingy) as the Great Wave Off Kanagawa, one of the most famous pieces of ukiyo-e style art.
-8:11 The shodo at the top says "something something Judo" The kanji are for "eternal" and "green" but I don't know anything about judo so I'm not sure how to read it
-13:01 33:30 OMG the song that's playing and that he's later singing is Donguri Korokoro. A donguri is an acorn and the song is just your average story about a little acorn that rolls away from his home and plays with a fish. The Slit-Mouth Woman is one of my favorite Japanese ghosts stories, so I quite liked this game.

This game was good! I love that they actually had an explanation as to why there were notes scattered around. People don't normally just WRITE NOTES when there's a scary ghost in their house
12:58 This is a japanese childrensong and is called どんぐりころころ or Dongurikorokoro. A song about an acorn rolling down a mountain and falling into the water XD
The voice acting is pretty sweet.
This game reminds me of the movie I watched of Kuchisake- Onna it was called "Carved" made in 2007, and read many legends on her as well, she's one freaky ass woman ever.
I thought of that movie too when I saw this posted. It was a really good film. Kuchisake-Onna makes for an interesting ghost story.

I’ve heard variations of the story where if you answer her question with something like “you’re just ok/plain/average” she won’t attack you. I guess she doesn’t know how to spin indifference into an ironic punishment

I think it was a good game. Would be better if course of they added more puzzles and more interactivity with the ghost (singing mechanic would be cool! Like searching for the opportunity to lower your anxiety when the ghost is not nearby). Seems like they even wanted to go for it but abandoned the idea for some reason. The game would be more expensive with additions though 😃 But even what is there looks good, voice acting is fine, the ghost is a threat and not simple jumpscare, there was a cutscene or two, and there are a few endings. Also, I like the unusual start, that you are a security worker and not just some random guy who's car broke. And I'm just biased for Asian horror. There is not enough of that!
Anyone notice all the actually "cursed" real life artwork.
And that is why, if a real Ring video tape actually existed, the world would be screwed. lol

@@graygarrison2692 Well, as long as you stay away from the area that she haunts, you should be good. Ring girl has a tape that allows her to get to you. And it would be all over the internet in a matter of minutes if it existed.
I liked it enough, mostly due to the Japanese setting, but I agree it was nothing special (nothing bad either, don't get me wrong). One nitpick : it bothered me that Kuchisake-Onna was wearing modern clothes. I expected her to wear more "traditional" clothes, for lack of a better term. Maybe she adapts her fashion sense as years goes on, idk ^^
Current renditions of her depict her in a short trenchcloak type outfit. I think it's bc of that movie from some years ago.

The painting to the left of the shelf is a famous painting supposedly created by an insane artists who mixed his own blood with the paint to turn it that firey red color. I like that little detail.

The Japanese legend is called "kuchi-saki onna", meaning 'slit-mouthed woman'. It is taken very seriously there, and it is revered. I lived there for many years and the story is well-known.

Based on this ending, Toda Akio sounds like a perfect client for Phoenix Wright.
I honestly fell asleep when watching this playthrough, however, this is not due to the game or your commentary. Rather I think my body and mind are still recovering from that GameJam.

A loooong time ago I watched the movie called Carved/The Slit Mouthed Woman, I don't think they made the actress scary looking enough and the scissors she carried around were more like enormous hedge clippers. A ridiculous movie but entertaining nonetheless.

I think they'll fit your style perfectly and it'll be a change of pace while staying within the horror scope! And if I missed them, boy would I love a link.
