Nice to hear a story of an employer that cared. Doug obviously worked hard for them and they did everything to accommodate him so he could continue to work. Employer/Employee relationships should be symbiotic like this.
What needs to happen... is the items done to make his life easier so he could return to work need to be rolled out to the others to hopefully prevent them from having the injury as well.
