I love the fix for the rear license plate! For the windows, did you consider leaving the brackets on and replacing the cheese slopes with tiles instead? For the doors, I saw someone change the technic pin and put a rod down the center to increase that friction. But your door method is definitely easier to do in a pinch!
Nice! I like the friction adding idea using the rod! Yeah I tried the tiles but I still felt it was a tad too tall for my taste. I think that’s what Jang ended up doing with his
First I wanted to swap the the slope pieces from the door with an 8x1 grey tile piece. Now I think I´ll give your version a shot as well. The slopes in the original design look more like a 2000+ car with a high waistline and narrow greenhouse.
hey, to keep the door open, you can place a 1x4 plate just under the hinge, there is space for it and it keeps the door open and looks way better (it's also simpler to to than moving the inverted tile forward). the connection is also kind of loose (it hold thanks to friction), so if you push down the door you'll be able to remove the plate and close the door, without any effort removing or adding pieces
For the gullwing doors, I read somewhere that you can use Technic pins with friction ridges instead of regular Technic pins to make the doors stay up and still be able to close.
@@igordasunddas3377 its the 2 black pins that make up the gull wing door hinges I replaced the 2 black smooth technic pins with a set of ones with small raised ridges that when you click them in they don't turn as smoothly and they are stiff enough to hold up the doors with no other mods the part number to look for is 4459 you can get them on a site like brickowl, they are cheap like only a few cents a pin, just get 2 you won't need any more one per door hope this helps. and if you already built the car you just have to remove the center roof panel, remove the doors swap out the smooth pin for the 4459 pin, reattach doors and then roof panel volia!
1:09 I added a 1x2 modified plate (with rail) on _each side_ of the license plate. But I also *removed* the blue 1x1x3 brick and replaced it with another 1x2x3 window frame. 3:10 I also removed the cheese slopes, but replaced it with a 1x8 tile, to hide the colourful door's insides, but I might go for the pieces swap soon. I also replace the black "pin with ball" connectors by gray ones. 6:40 I coated the pins with transluscent nail polish (2 coats, let dry well) and the doors hold very well in upper position. I did the same for my old Tydirium Imperial SHuttle's cockpit. -> Another extra modificiation I made is moving the bottom part of the light-switch, so when I press it the light stays on. And it's still very easy to turn off.
_(As I didn't find the same "pin with ball" connectors in gray (I don't know it they exist), I actually used "axle with ball" gray connectors. The door is stil sturdy enough.)_
Great mods my dude! I thought the door windows looked a bit off when I built it. I did some work on the wheels by painting the middle area black and highlighting the writing on the tyres with white. Just makes them look a bit closer to the goodyear tyres in the film.
Awesome man. Really good job. Behind the drivers seat there should be a panel with red, yellow and green LEDs. If the door is open it is visible that this panel is missing. That could be another modification to be made. Keep up the good work. Stay safe.
Thank you!! Yeah I saw that some other folks had done just that and it looks really good! I actually have that included in my minifigure scale delorean time machine which has a video coming very soon for it!
Great work. I have not built mine yet. the thing that bothers me the most is the long flat gray piece along the top of where the side window would be. I feel like angled wedge pieces would look better than having a flat piece. Is that possible? Like I said, i haven't even cracked the box yet.
for the stand, i just offset the 2 with doc in front and marty at the back, better than moving their hands. for the Door, i used a 1x4 black plate and attached it to the 2 hinges under the door, totally invisible (this plate was left over after building the BTTF Pt2 build, so only 1 door is open, but looks much better).
the door lenght would also need to be longer, given the original model the entier interior is too small on the lego, it should be like at least 2 stud longer. The windows "height" with the fix is actually more accurate ^^
this is like 2 years late, but Im wondering how you got the windshield slope pieces at the top flush with the roof? I recently got this set and the windshield sits about a quarter of an inch higher than the roof, and while it's not really all that noticeable I think the clean look is a lot better looking. Also, my gullwing doors stay open naturally so now Im wondering if this was a piece recall/replace that happened more recently that also effected the windshield? Ive seen photos of both the raised and flush roof so I'm sure if I just built it wrong somewhere or if it's just how it was made. Thanks!
anyway you can list the parts you use? this way people can grab them from bricklink, etc if need be. i also found a video where the person used, Technic, Pin with Long Friction Ridges Brick Link Item No: 4459 for the doors, which i ordered. appreciate the video.

I finally built mine this weekend I did one slight 'mod' I ordered a set of the more less smooth technic black pin in place of the ones that came in the build, I swapped em out and now the door has more stiffness in the hinge area and I thought I needed 2 per door but found out I only need 2 so if somebody ever needs a set of em I have extras. I still need to do that mod you did that makes the rear plate unit easy to remove I personally can live with the door windows being 'smaller' so I am leaving them alone.....for now
I just finished my Delorean today and I found that both of the doors can't be opened smoothly, they will be stuck by the bar at the top of the window... Any ways to fix this?
Hmm, interesting- sounds like maybe you went wrong on the instructions somewhere or perhaps you got a bad part in there? I can’t say I experienced this particular problem- mine were TOO smooth so they wouldn’t stay open.
You can just go to bricklink and search for the pieces you need, they’re super common! All you have to do is pick out the 6 additional plates in the right colors and add them to a wanted list, then buy them!
Those are the additional pieces you would need to buy or source from your spare parts bin- 7 pieces in total - 2 of the 2x8 plate in light bluish grey, 2 of the 1x2 plate in light bluish grey, 2 of the 2x2 L-shaped plate in black, and 1 of the 1x2 modified plate with rail in black.
They don’t really seem to be - it feels like only during the activation of the wheel change do they get stretched any significant amount. They are obviously under tension when the wheels are down but it’s fairly minimal and I think they will last a good long time with no issue.
This is one of my all time favorite lego sets. That being said, i'm shocked how many mistakes lego made in this set, they really dropped the ball. The window thing is unacceptable, it looks horrible in its original form, it looks like a tank window or something. This fix makes it more correct, looks better, it's not even a question. Then there is the fact that the doors cannot stay open by themselves. How can you make a lego Delorean and not have one of its biggest features be a thing. The whole reason this car is so awesome besides being able to travel through time, is the fact that the doors can open and stay open. This should really re-release this set and admit they dropped the ball. It seems to be a trend lately that more of more sets feels rushed and lack Q/A.
I agree. I think LEGO has been producing so many new sets and elements over the past 4 or 5 years that it’s gotten to the point where they simply can’t keep up and more things like this are slipping through the cracks. I couldn’t believe how illegal the technique used for the dr strange eyeball monster was until I built it, and any person who built it would have seen the same thing so how did it get passed? Who knows. Hopefully they can slow down a little with the volume and instead give every set the level of craft and care they used to be able to
imho this is just a prelude teaser for a full blown ucs build, which i will hope will come at some point, basically a bugattic chiron sized set with pretty much every detail covered.

Agreed!! I can never look back now that I’ve changed it
Yes, I think the doors not locking/clicking into the open position a design flaw, too.
I agree, yeah
Rebuild it gang click the pieces harder or something I’m sitting here with mine just built and the door is levitating at maximum height no problem
