Following the Euromaidan protests, Charlet heads to Kiev to see what Ukrainian Fashion Week has to offer. The capital is still reeling from months of revolutionary turmoil which has only started to die down days before the fashion week is scheduled to take place.
Ukraine's fashion industry has grown rapidly in recent years. Despite the seriously unstable security situation which means many high profile attendees have cancelled their visit, fashion week organisers insist on going ahead with a unique, post-apocalyptic event which simultaneously confronts and buries the troubles.

I love that designer's concept of a show without music. Very adequate.
I'm not a fan of fashion, but i'm wondering if people instantly disliked the video because it had the word "fashion" in it. It think it was a great watch and interesting interviews.
yea, i'm honestly surprised there aren't more people with top comments like, "I USED TO LIKE VICE BUT NOW ALL YOU DO IS BULLSHIT. MORE NORTH KOREAAAA!!!"
i'm wondering the same thing... nothing about this video seems to warrant this many dislikes. to me, this series isn't much about fashion at all but using the phenomena of fashion week to highlight the political mood and interests clashing with vanity of different cultures in general, and i think it's a brilliant angle to go about global fashion reporting.
I'm not a fan either but here there isn't any of that mad 1m tall hats or crazy association of clothes so i enjoyed every minute of the episode i've seen so far (i paused at 7:57).
I don't like the facecage or fake wounds on the forehead, but after the MADNESS from the Carabeen episode .. nothing can surprise me.
nope. watched the whole thing and disliked it
I wonder about the model who said that she "knows about makeup". Is she saying that because she wants to stay out of trouble? Or is she truly ignorant?
I mean most the other models and people discussed their opinions, plus the entire show's an outcry of the situation, so I think she's actually ignorant lol
Bryan Liang Could someone confirm to me that model was born with a vagina? Or was that David Bowie's son?
The Green Cesspool Why not both?
ginaheartscupcakes Since she spoke in English, I have a feeling she isn't Ukrainian. Likely she isn't too involved and is ignorant to what is going on~
Purinboshi I believe she was born in Ukraine but she moved out at a young age, She has no stake in Ukraine anymore. I knew nothing about the situation either. If she's out on photoshoots in the UK,France, Italy, and perhaps Stateside. We should not expect her do know anything. The other models live in Ukraine and spoke the language fluently.
The creativity of this nation, undeterred even when under assault by one of the most powerful and aggressive forces on the planet, is really inspiring.
6 years after your comment and it still rings true 💖 Slava Ukraini 🇺🇦
Росiяни не могунi. Вони жорстокi та вправнi у своїй жорстокости, не бiльше
People really need to watch the video before commenting.
The entire video is about trying to keep people happy, it constantly talks about the war, the deaths, what people are doing to survive. It's about fashion, yes, but also what's actually happening.
Yes, she gets to a predominantly white country and she is all of a sudden respectful and reverent. Seems about right. Nothing against Ukrain though.
Rolling my eyes to that girl at 8:30
No doubt... Seriously, out of touch 😕 But, other's at least understood that we that we each show protest however
we can... Whether it's with words, symbols or Molotov cocktails to protest this war. I can not begin to understand
what these and other countries are continuing to go through, I can only cry for these people and the losses that
they continue to suffer through... Which I know is sadly ineffectual.😧
+Bluescarlet I am with you.@ least someone sees this for what it is Genocide of Russians in Ukraine .Pray for peace in UKRAINE my heart with them!
+J Dally I literally came here looking for this comment
same
with the blue veil and yellow butterflies...? Ok......I don't get it.
that model that said "i know about makeup" is so ignorant
+Ney K
but soo pretty.
ok, there is no 'but'. other models upon hearing her answer should stone her, as she is reinforcing common model stereotype.
I think I have watched every single vice documentary now.. :D
Lacey!
Dil Howlter Hello there!! (:
@@Mintyoreos Lacey!
I wanna see vice fashion week Japan plz
+Youngjoo Jun yes!! I think Japanese fashion is some of the most creative Iv'e ever seen.
I love Ukrainians, greetings from USA
LOL, im a Ukrainian living in Canada watching this shit. What is my lyfe?
You mean eastern Russians
@@uuuaaa6330 western Russian's. East Europe is a shit hole. Well Ukraine and Moldova
The model who said 'she knows about make-up...today' *face palm*
lmao the singing started out so calm then got angry and loud
This is one of the best Vice-pieces ever. Powerful story. Well told. Keep coming back to it ever since I first saw it.
you need to do more of these
Following the Euromaidan protests, Charlet heads to Kiev to see what Ukrainian Fashion Week has to offer.
impressive, again. great video guys!
I support Ukraine to join the EU its not right for Putin to just go in like he's the owner of Ukraine
Progectzz stop watching CNN-
children I don't watch CNN I was trying to mean that I hope this stuff ends soon with Ukraine and russia
Progectzz Welp maybe they should pay their fucking bills.
Being Russian AND Ukrainian is hard.
Girl I feel you. The struggle is real 😏
I live in fucking Finland I only get few hours of sunlight and two weeks of summer
Stephen Howard well move then
+Stephen Howard really? is that what Finland is like?
yes actually +jimmy stone
This odly reminded me a lot of playing the fallout series. That feeling of order within chaos that feels so peaceful yet with fear lurking in the corner.
I think this is quite interesting and I really don't understand all the hate :/
Cnuggat Russian trolls
We don't have a government, but at least we have a fashion week. Priorities :/
It's a healing process. I thought the fashion week really tried to come to terms with the turmoil in the country by means of art.
Always so eloquent, another great fashion week piece that looks at the collections from every angle, truly.
It's amazing all the ways that people find to move on.
This documentary gives me "Les Miserables" vibe...
Loved to see this come back for another season!!
Its great to see fashion and fashion weeks outside of the western cities. Please give me more.
Wonderful work on the documentary and so much creativity by the young designers. impressed!!
Vice, thank you so much for this. sheds a whole different perspective on the movement. its about fashion, yes, but does not fail to show whats really happening-- the deaths, pain, and determination of the people. well done.
these videos are so powerful
Brilliant series. Love Charlet's work, well balanced overall view and wonderful insight into politics and culture through aesthetics. Bravo!
the track at the ending title is the bomb !!
yeah! do you know what it is? it's so good
I have really missed fashion reporting. Glad you're back!
I hate that people are just blindly disliking Vice videos now.. There is nothing wrong with this article
My dad is from Ukraine
Sims, like a lot of time passed, but it still bring teares on eyes, Thank you werrry much for showing, that Ukraine, has place for fashion, no metter when and what is going on around! We have many talented designers, who have to have theyr little spot in the fashion planet!!! Slava Ukraini!
These documentary shorts are the most amazing things ever.
excellent contribution, thanks vice!
i love this series and am excited toseeit come back.
I found this very interesting. Happy this show is back!
Who pays for this event?
That lady looks like Cersei from Game of Thrones.
I was a bit disappointed Yanukovych's mansion didnt have sharks with frickin laser beams on their heads.
This is a great piece! Also you did not mention one significant detail about that referendum in Crimea: it was one hundred percent illegal and held under the guns of regular russian troops.
Как вы это можете доказать?
ты точно даун.
fashion week in South Africa? Would love to see that, if not then maybe Russia if they have one?
+HorseZee Fashion Week in South Africa is really up and down lately, but something to experience nonetheless. I have many friends that showcase in the South African Fashion Weeks (Mercedes Benz FWeek, Menswear Week, SA FWeek and AFI Fast Track) and I feel like SA has incredible talent. Vice should totally come visit us
Fashion and uniforms are what we wear and are then incredibly powerful. Russian and Uniforms of these people are powerful. I am honored to have my Sub captain hat and coat. It is incredible for me. The time 100 years since The Great War is the thing.
Such contrast.
Prettiness, unattached happiness... and death.
i really like this reporter. she should write articles as well
If to these people, fashion is their passion and what keeps them happy and fulfilled during all this death and violence then of course they have the write to make it
Very informational
Easily the best in this series.
Gotta love a hair choker, lololol!!
I hate fashion cause i think it's a waste of money and natural materials, including animals. But I support (street) fashion in Ukraine because they're actually fighting for something and have a passion that extends just making money. For me, fashion in Ukraine is more of a performance (performative art), than wasteful consumption. That Gucci, Louis Vuitton...etc crap can be burned though.
fashion has been around since humans started adding beads to their buckskins
Steve J street fashion in ukraine nor russia always mostly was for self-profit. It’s just a copy/paste of western style and selling it out again by “local” brands. You can see a lot of them on Diet Prada for example.
That "Ukraine" tshirt that keeps popping up is so brilliant. Just like the journalism, as always with VICE.
Superb flick VICE, as always! Which actually gives a glance to the truth about what has happend. Thanks!
Really enjoyed watching this. Great doc and Charlet would totally get it.
What's that house tune playing in the background all the time?
Lol the guy with the beanie that says “rich”, queuing up for the soup is too ironic.. 10:46
The last song is so beautiful! Can anyone tell me what it is? I'm blown away
Excellent piece
This is another amazing piece by vice.
I haven't showered in days.
does somebody know where i can get a t-shirt like the one from this video?
Wow, this was the best out of the whole Fashion Week Internationale so far! & Charlet chopped her hair off, ahh!
Is the soundtrack at the beginning from vice itself or is it any song I can look for, anyone know it? it shows at 0:00 and 6:31.
i gonna take screenshot of charlet riding roller coaster and put it as my desktop wallpaper
I'M SO HAPPY THE SERIES IS BACK!!!
Does anybody know? which one was to music at the end of the video?
How does called the song in the start of the video??? please
frolovs collection is incredible
the documentary clearly says the main theme is the cultural values &political ongoings coating it with an upper layer fashion so why all are bothering abt fashion sense
Love you Ukraine. Love you Charlet!
Talk about rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.
wow that was incredible
Can someone link me the last played song? I tried but I didn't find it
any ID on that housey track in the background?
Swahili Fashion week (East Africa)
Yes Tanzania represent 😊
As Always: Well Done Vice
Wonderful... Charlet is wonderful! With best wishes from Slo... ;)
AMAZING REPORTING!
The masks from 6:44 to 6:57 are from the designer Bob Basset. I would recognize that work anywhere! You can actually commission custom work from him!!!
To be honest, i wasn't suprised to see the decadence in Janukowytsch's place. Almost every dictator in the world lives in a Palace like this. I bet Putins is even bigger.
oMG!! charlet is back, i'm so happy...
Where can you find the Valentin guys photos
It's a great thing what that guy is doing helping all the hungry people.
thank you vice for taking me around the world.
Wow. What does Kyiv look like now? How is life now?
Yesss!!! I love fashion week international
Please ! anyone knows the name of the soundtrack that starts at 3:19 , I think its a deep house track.
This line is awesome, love it, very nice show as well.
Why did you have to film an otherwise fun program at such a sad period in the country!! I have been to Kiev 3 times and it is absolutely breathtaking and the women..the most beautiful I have ever seen!!
What's the song in the beginning ?
holy shit 12:30 whats the music in the background called
His house is the stuff..!! Very beautiful ..!!
Her end statement was beautiful.
"Hardworking people"
whats the song that plays throughout?
yay this show is back, im happy
What's the name of the music at 17:00?
Anyone know what the track is called that starts at 12:13?
Never mind. Found it: Kobza - Zajczyk
FINALLY!!! I missed you guys! #FashionWeek
Give Charles more shows vice! She's great! Those new reporters suck!
Very interesting,,,,
If you dont know any brand name designers, have never studied fashion, have never tried to look up or know about fashion, and the closest runway show you've ever watched is Victoria's Secret, then you litterally have no right to diss any designers or call their stuff weird and stupid, because half of these designers are getting more money than you will ever make for the stuff your calling "shit"
