I love the fact that you're showing us that importance of getting out of the building, talking to experts, to learn "what our needs are" BEFORE figuring out what the product will look like.
Thank you for taking the time to share the process and growing in public!

The reason people still talk about shutter angles is that it’s a great way to consistently get the look you want regardless of the frame rate you’re shooting at. It’s one less thing to remember to adjust and if you’re using a less conventional shutter angle you don’t have to do quick mental math changing between frame rates when you’re trying to focus on something else. It’s a different and more useful setting than just shutter speed on its own, even if the terminology is antiquated. It would be cool to see a different and more accessible take on it because it seems to trip up some people coming to video, probably because it can seem like motion blur is an attribute of the frame rate and because it can be hard to notice the effect if you’re not already aware and looking out for it.

Actually on that last point, maybe grouping the frame rate setting and the shutter speed/shutter angle setting together visually and accessing them with the same control is a good idea? It would communicate that they affect each other and a user who is unfamiliar might try to experiment with them in relation to each other and might seek out info on how they relate to each other. A user experimenting with a shutter speed setting on its own might think it basically has the same effect as adjusting the iso.

Well I guess there’s the problem that unless the user has an ND filter, shutter speed is really the only exposure control you have on an iPhone, in sunlight at least.

Awesome video. Great to see the thought process behind things etc... As a working corporate in-house filmmaker, I'm really looking forward to using Kino! I'll challenge Ben a little on shutter angle, because it actually is useful when changing frame rates... obviously not a major inconvenience, and something I'm often thinking about, but might the end user not remember to change 1/48 to 1/120 when shooting 60p? Would the app automatically adjust to always stay double of the frame rate? Something to think about! Looking forward to the next installment!

Seconded! Shutter angle is preferable because you can set a framerate agnostic ratio, you set it and forget it.

Could you make the auto/manual exposure a toggle instead of a menu, save a click!

love your video styleand the app ideas
I am also a prior app developer you started to change to video making and editing and still thinking about creating a video app that fits my own needs as a filmmaker :)
btw, I discovered this video on my front page :)

Is it worth it for non pro iPhone 15 models? They don’t support log footage.

@@mrlightwriter I ended up getting it while the app was on sale. They have a lot of new stuff being released down the road for the app.

@@ygproductions_ I bought it but I asked for a refund. There are several bugs, and for me, the Blackmagic app is still the better one, for the most part.
