    The plant words of encouragement and positive vibes is what I notice most in your videos. The writing on the bins was a nice touch, I remember the plant tags from before.
    If you haven't picked for the cutting yet I'd like to have a chance and I look forward to many more videos

    Look forward to your Friday broadcast. Always informative and entertaining.
    So, if I understand you correctly, the cuttings I have rooted this winter and have up-potted to one gallon pot, I should let them root out in these pots until next spring before potting into a larger pot or in the ground?
    Thanks.

    • @Philsfigs
      @Philsfigs  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep you can keep them in their one gallon pots for awhile as a general rule of thumb. BUT there are exceptions, if you find one is really struggling to grow or is not doing well because there are roots everywhere it may be time to uppot it. But that may be an exception. Make sense? Feel out the fig and see if roots are coming out the bottom etc.
      Thank you for the kind words!

    Great demonstration, always love your video and you have a down to earth personality. I would love to a cutting of the NSDC variety. I have about 20+ varieties that I’m trying to grow in foggy San Francisco. I’m experimenting different varieties to see which ones do well in our weather. Hey Phil, love the channel! This will be my second season with 4 store bought trees and first season rooting cuttings. So far out of 20 cuttings all but two have rooted but are showing signs of life with very small buds. Gotta say starting with cuttings is definitely next level and almost an addiction! Lol. I’ve even gone as far as fig tree hunting and asking if anyone can spare a couple of cuttings off their personal trees. lol. Supper happy with that as I was able to score some cuttings from a woman that had a 30 year old tree her husband brought from the Azores and the information I got was that it’s a green flesh with red pulp fig, she even sent me off with a jar of her homemade fig jam…awesome! The woman’s husband has since passed so she didn’t have a name for it except possibly an Azores White. I would love the NSDC cutting to possibly add to my collection! Either way love what you do 🍻

      Congrats on your fig trees! Let’s help those fig trees thrive. You still have some winter ahead of you up there. You may want to keep them in pots. I had trees I kept in pots when I lived in Boston. I remember there were some big ones around town where people wrapped, buried, or kept on pots on wheels to survive winters. Hi Phil! Thanks for another great video. What happens to the buds If the tree is budding and a freeze happens? FYI, I just ordered two cuttings, Peters Honey and Col de Dame Noir. Can't wait to get them rooted. 😊

    • @Philsfigs
      @Philsfigs  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If it’s budding it could potentially have dieback which is less than ideal. This is because of the sap flow and leaf growth - the tree thinks it’s spring and is pushing our growth. You’ll want to do your best to keep it from freezing

    Hi...i have a question! I have several fig trees that have long, blank trunks then branches out nicely up over my head!...but they are so tall. Why dont i see that with the fig community? Im zone 8b in Washington state.
    Also have never been able to propagate the stems and yes im doing it right. Well maybe they will grow this time using heat mats....
    UPDATE!!! I GOT BUDS ..GREEN LEAVES! THE HEAT MAT IS THE THING!

    • @Philsfigs

      Yep usually a year - if they’re really big pots (15gal+) sometimes you can get away with every other year

  • @realMysta
    @realMysta 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Is the 7 gallon pot about the biggest one you go with(generally)? or 10+ pretty common?

    • @Philsfigs
      @Philsfigs  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I max out around the 15-20 gallon containers but I only have a few larger and they live in those even larger ones like they would in the ground. I think the 15 gal is a nice final size because it's still manageable, but allows your figs to get relatively large
