Hope to see this one fully restored, this is pure Atari awesomeness. The quirky Atari games from the arcade golden age (80s through early 90s) are some of my favorite arcade games of all time, i.e. Paperboy, Toobin', Pit Fighter, Primal Rage, Marble Madness, Hard Drivin', STUN Runner etc.. Atari just had a conceptual creativity & coolness factor that no one else had.
Legit one of my top fighting games ever with 3rd Strike. people compare this game to MK which i understand, but in actuality, the closest cousin to this game, gameplay wise is Darkstalkers series. Both games released with Chain combo systems in 94. and honestly, PR's is more expansive since u can end chains with specials. basically u can do easy combos. buttons as: (1) 2 3 4 you could do 1, 2, 1+2 (together) will execute a combo with all characters. 1+2 and 3+4 gives u a 3rd heavy strike like street fighter. so Sauron, a basic combo could be: Jump 3+4, 1, 2, 1+2, HOLD 1+3 away toward u dont have to time it really, just tap it out at an even pace and on the last hit hold the buttons and hit the motion. u can also do chains in the air, such as using 4, 3+4 after a normal jump which can do 2 hits before u touch ground to launch the rest of your combo. once u learn it and get a feel u wouldnt want it any other way. i complained about it so much when i was first learning the game a few years ago but once it clicks its so nice. theres also 3 different jumps (which KoF would also do) down to up: is a super jump forward, down, up: is a short leaping lunge jump basically doing a shoryuken but pressing up towards at the end. it kinda works like a dash to get in close without opening yourself up too much. its fast and a great way to start a combo with 3+4 or 1+2 or other buttons depending on the character its sad theres not a 100% emulatable version of Primal Rage because of its expert encryption. there was an effort a few years ago but the project was shot dead in the water. iv speculated that it was an effort to towards release for Arcade1up but was axed. Gruntzilla94 did a great job getting PR2 emulated, i dont know why WB Games would go out of their way to kill a PRage emulation project
I played/watched this game lots in my college campus arcade in its day. That one was a huge version with the monitor set up a bit back from the control panel, which was ideal for onlookers. The most popular finisher was Chaos' "golden shower".
Very cool! I've never seen one myself, but Atari released Primal Rage in both a standard upright cabinet like mine, and a "showcase" cabinet like your description. You can see it in the original sales flyer: flyers.arcade-museum.com/videogames/show/773#gallery-2
Yes, I can show that in a future video. Do you mean the furniture dollies with wheels on the bottom for moving cabinets around the garage, or the furniture carpet sliders to move them around the basement?
One of the benefits of living out in the boonies is space is cheap! I’ve heard Primal Rage likes the +5v to run a bit on the high side, and this can cause watchdog issues. Maybe try temporarily turning it up to 5.3v and see if that helps?
@@overtimearcade ok but i have a 6 pcb hooked up in my cab on a riddle tv 6way switcher. You press p1 and p2 to switch games idk if that will effect and kill other pcbs..i have a square power supply in there not like the one you have on your primal machine.
Yup, different PCBs sometimes want different things from the power supply. Switchers like that are best used with similar games from the same manufacturer.
@@overtimearcadeNice. I was trying to find one during the lockdowns. It was basically impossible. Took me two years to get a hold of some. So if you are like me and like having parts on hand. Then order one or two now ^^. Congrats on the great get. Awesome game. Cheers.
nice pickup Charlie, I let one get away at an auction years back it went well over what I thought it was worth and with a dead monitor , I dunno what it is , but I think most of those cabs I have ever seen ALWAYS has the left side art missing or torn to shreds
Awesome pickup Charlie! My only suggestion is you go into the test mode and test the controls. I actually think that should be the first thing you do. Also, you had that control panel open it would have taken 1 minute to clean the glass and CRT tube. It makes the video easier to see. You seem to have an aversion to cleaning glass. I'm tired of looking at the dirty screens Charlie! 😢
@@overtimearcade Yes! I got to meet Del at Jeff Kinder's arcade party last year. But I got there late and missed the opportunity to meet you. Love your videos, Charlie! Keep up the good work!
