The very first rewiew i have seen from Tom Vasel was for Agricola. Now... for Halertau. After all this time i still love the Dice Tower rewiew! Thank you!
you prolly dont give a shit but if you are stoned like me atm then you can stream pretty much all the latest series on InstaFlixxer. I've been binge watching with my girlfriend recently :)
Looks pretty cool, and farming is the most important activity for humans to survive, so I'm glad to see him focusing on it, instead of wars and consumerism
I love this game solo! I could see it being frustrating multiplayer, though. Regardless, all those different card decks and card combos to find will keep me coming back for a long time! Highly recommend!
Keep the farming games coming, Uwe! They are definitely why he is my fave designer. I just wrapped up my 4th solo play and currently would say it's my 3rd favorite of his games behind Fields of Arle and Feast for Odin. Can't wait to play this one vs. humans!
I think the only Uwe game Tom loved right out of the gate was Caverna, which he could immediately warm to because it was essentially Agricola 2.0 and thus the game was already a favorite, in a sense... Glad he liked it and admits he might grow to love it, because I pre ordered it months ago gambling that Tom would give his seal of approval! There are few games he loves that I don’t. Well, okay Cosmic is... okay...
My first higher level game from Rosenberg and I had a lot of fun. Didn't do very well my first time, but pulling off huge combos is so satisfying. The solo works really well and you can play a game of it in a reasonable amount of time.
I have played this game solo 11 times so far, and it is much different than his other games. Those who complain about the cardplay either haven't played the game enough or don't understand how to take advantage of them. In pretty much all of the games that I have played, I concentrate on 2 things, which are both equally important to scoring well in this game: 1) getting enough resources to move the Community Centre 1 or 2 times each round (don't forget the tools!) AND 2) pushing towards fulfilling at least one of my opening hand gateway cards. I find that this latter strategy really helps get the cards flowing - which is the best part of this game!
I’m not much of a Uwe Rosenberg ‘fan’, but no doubt he’s had quite a reasonable amount of variety. Theme wise, he does like farming, and his games are often built around engine building, but even critics, I think, would be hard pressed to tell me they are the same thing over and over. His other 2020 release was New York Zoo, which is nothing like the game presented here. The two games of his I find most fun: Agricola and Patchwork, are nothing alike in my opinion. And how is Heingist like Bohnanza? I dont see it Shanerion. That said, I cant stand Le Harve (Ive wanted to like it for years, but I find it nearly as much fun as doing a spreadsheet or preparing my tax return). I can respect Feast of Odin and Caverna, but have zero desire to own them. Bottom line: he is a well received designer, with a vast library. Good thing there’s a ton of more games for those of us that simply dont enjoy his work as much as others.
I just couldn't shake off all his other games while playing this. When you've got Caverna, Fields of Arle, Odin etc, why do you need Hallertau? The card play ended up being more of a detriment then a plus due to the luck swings it has. He already has a bunch of awesome farming games, I think at this point we need to diversify.
I don't think there's anything wrong with farming games (on brand) as long as he delivers fresh new experiences. Not sure he did that here but I'm not sure what pasting e.g. a space theme on his games will do if he delivers samey experiences.
I like playing solo. I play to beat my previous scores. It plays well with 2 players too. For solo I like how you don't need to play another player or play some other "game" to be able to solo it.
I am excited to play this, but it really feels like this is a larger worker placement that still features that Reykholt mechanism where you are basically just trying to get enough resources to move your house. I am hoping there is more to this than that specific mechanism.
Sigh I’m sure I will play this and I probably will like it it just is hard to get super pumped for yet another farming game with a very similar look. But I love Caverna and Feast so prob will like this as well
I really like the concepts of these games like Agricola. I actually own Agricola, but the idea of playing for *more than two hours* on a single super-competitive game is a big no-no-no. You need a player group that is so super-passionate that they will all want to learn the tips and tricks over multiple long playthrough. The idea is cool, but the play time is still way too high.
I remember seeing Tom and Mike play it like 2 weeks ago, but I can't find it now so I'm pretty sure it's not uploaded yet and what I watched was the live playthrough.
@@stevensitesnbo8765 yea, I see what you're saying. Maybe too swingy? (Though some Viticulture cards can really change the pace of the game too, if gotten at the right moments).
I'm dumb. Sheep are mammals. Mammals make milk. Sheep make milk. Simple logic. I just bought the game. I enjoy my sheep. I hoard all the sheep. It comes with 30 hoardable sheep.
Game looks such a fiddly and boring game. It seems like mechanisms and things are here and there without no connection and then added a ton of cards for a good measure.
Dynamically they do connect though. Engine building vs rising upgrade costs. Higher worker supply increasing the round start placement costs. Also tradeoffs everywhere

Still waiting on Agricola on Mars, Uwe. It´ll sell like hotcakes. Just make sure it´s not Tetris in the red mountains.
Excellent review, but wheres the next AFFO Expansion!?

La Havre has been his #1 game of all time but only after years of moving up his list.

This designer is an absolute machine.
Definitely a machine, because like a machine he keeps doing the same thing over and over again
Don't know how anyone who has played more than one of his games can think that...

Are you ever positive about a game? You're like the opposite of Rahdo..
@@sherlockhomeless7138 about good games yes, plenty of examples. 😉

Where's the component drop???

2 hours is the max play length for you lol...
lol 2 hours is not even that much 🤔
"This is one player's board"
I'm really gonna hate this.
Amazing game, possibly his best.
What makes it better than the other?
Thumbs up if you miss the component drop. It was unique to his videos!
In which video did they play Hallertau? Must've missed it and couldn't find it.
I couldn't find it either. Maybe sometime during winterspectacular . If someone could post when or share a link that would be great
I remember seeing Tom and Mike play it like 2 weeks ago, but I can't find it now so I'm pretty sure it's not uploaded yet and what I watched was the live playthrough.
Came here to say the same thing!

The card play "luck" reminds me of one of Tom's other favorite games that has multiple stacks of cards Viticulture....
That's true!
That comparison sounds like a perk to me!
I agree Brice but from the video it didn't seem Tom thought of it as a perk in this one for some reason. Maybe with more plays it will be.
@@stevensitesnbo8765 yea, I see what you're saying. Maybe too swingy? (Though some Viticulture cards can really change the pace of the game too, if gotten at the right moments).
I wonder why the piece you move is not some sort of plowing illustration instead of a house.
The Dice Hallertau-wer
dont see the playthrough anywhere
Anyone know where the live playthrough of this is?
Two boulders? In this economy?!
I can't seem to find the playthrough video on the channel, and no link on the website that I can see... can anyone help please? TIA!
ditto, this and the game Tobito he said they did a live of that and I can't find that either... odd.
I saw Tom and Mike play it like 2 weeks ago (must have been live), I'm pretty sure it just hasn't been uploaded yet.

I'm ready for this one!!
Use Rosenberg! lol Description!
Rosenberg is a bit... overUSEd :D
The resource adjustment feels very rosenberg ala la havre
Too much reorganizing to do a component drop?
They've dropped the drop
The component sweep was much less blurry/disorienting this time!
Ah, the "Uwe pass" strikes again.
No Component Drop? LOL
I´m heavy into sheep! :-)
Some of the components look like a strange gimmick for gimmick's sake..
"Sheep make milk" That's some woolly milk.
I'm dumb. Sheep are mammals. Mammals make milk. Sheep make milk. Simple logic.
I just bought the game. I enjoy my sheep. I hoard all the sheep. It comes with 30 hoardable sheep.
Please do top 10 lying or bluffing games.
Vasel seemed pretty iffy about the game, then gave it an 8 out of 10? That seems a bit high
Ewe pass. Happens every time.
This seems like a game that I won't enjoy.
I like Uwe just bored of the same themes and mechanisms. Pass for me.
Quite different this time though. Worker spots feel more like supply demand driven variable costs. Upgrade prices also undergo some inflation
