On the "camera gun" mod: all they've essentially done, is given the camera's "shot" a physical bullet, and changed the damage model of the camera (because the vanilla camera _is_ a "gun" whose projectile has no model and does no damage, due to the limitations of the old gamebryo engine. Which is why Private Kowalski gets mad at you if you take a picture of the Boulder City monument).
I think what’s worse about when the Rock hip fires the browning is that it’s not the usual M2 browning it’s one of the models that is mounted to helicopters and such so it’s firing at 800-1000 rounds per minute
On the PPSh it looks like instead of the bolt clipping through the receiver cover, it's a sheet metal piece on the cocking handle that covers the hole in the receiver where the handle reciprocates. Of course on the outside model that sheet is inside the receiver, but I think whoever modeled the first person view of it thought it was supposed to be outside.
the modding community in FO4 has done some amazing things, and the engine is a lot more refined than the NV version. All that said NV is just a better game overall, but if you're looking at mod guns FO4 is absolutely the game to look at
I would love Jonathan to react to the Machineguns and Miniguns Rebirth mods along with the SREP, the G11 and all other stuff. Maybe also a goofy one like Dak's Shoulder Mounted .50
The Camera is an actual game play mechanic, where you're tasked with taking photos of signs by an NPC, but in game mechanics it's treated like a gun that does no damage. The Camera mod probably just took that and gave it some more damage.
Love that Jonathan noticed the knurling in the Borz submachinegun. mikeburnfire fans will remember the episode where Zach mentions it aswell, and how this had to be a high-end homemade gun for it to have something like that in it!
I can only ask we get an episode of Johnathan reacting to the guns from metal gear solid 3 snake eater and maybe include some of the codecs on the weapons like for snakes 1911 cause it specifies the customisations done to the gun
Bit of a throwback but I reckon the Killzone series would be great to look at! I remember really loving the design of the bullpup AR-15 they had when I was younger, it just looked super dope. I think the game series in general had some really cool weapons!
That's super cool that you guys came around to doing New Vegas Mod weapons! As someone who has made New Vegas mods (quest mods) it's absolutely wild to see a professional curator talk about them. It's like above and beyond that would be expected of them in their occupation.
The bit that comes out of the ppsh looks to be a custom added dust cover that comes out what would be a dremeled slot in the back / side of the receiver.
The AK-47 was made by a modder called Millenia, believe her real name is Azure if memory serves me right since her transition. She’s an experienced model designer when it comes to weapons and is the lead 3D designer for Malformation Games. A lot of her gun mods are pretty iconic for how well detailed they are, and her mods have been on the top spots in the New Vegas Nexus for quite some time. She also liked to add joke mods to some of the guns, such as the crazy extended mag on the aforementioned AK-47. She hasn’t made mods for either New Vegas or Fallout 4 in quite some time, however.
I think its inspired by the De Lisle, minus the integral suppressor. It's carbine length, bolt action, and feeds pistol cartridges (possibly 9mm or .45 in the game. If the latter then that would be a match to what the De Lisle fed)
I'm in awe of this dude. Not only is he a professional in his field, but he manages to tell everything with such respect for the authors of these mods. If I were one of them, Jonathan's criticism would make me feel so good and proud.
"Mine on a stick" was an actual thing (sort of). Because of how much the sea level changes in Northern France due to tides, in WW2 the Germans would drive poles into the sand which stuck out of the sand around 2-3 meters. So during low tides the poles themselves would obstruct the landing craft and during high tide the mines would be high enough to contact the landing craft and go off.
Not sure if anyone's mentioned it yet, but the Browning .50 machine gun has appeared in a Fallout game before. It was in Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood Of Steel as a weapon that you needed power armour or a super mutant level of strength to wield. (also the Pancor Jackhammer appeared in Fallout 2)
Wolfenstein, Killzone, Bioshock and Killzone please! All have weapons that are based on irl firearms and some that aren’t. Be great for Jonathan to get a run at each.
@@darthcerebus Definitely, despite being fictional some of the guns feel more realistic than Vandguard abominations so Jonathan would appreciate that lol
It's so cool seeing Millenia's mods getting recognized and praised by a professional. I remember when I first saw her mods, I was blown away by the level of detail, accuracy, and feel of the weapons. Really fun seeing a professional enjoy the detail too :D
Would love a reaction to Warframe's futuristic weapons, there are some sci fi shotguns that Jonathan would appreciate and I'm curious to see how he would react to the guns that fire what is essentially compressed microwave energy
5:32 Fallout: Tactics actually has proportionally rare unique guns that can only be found in singular instances due to their rarity, including the Walther MPL. Rare guns include things like a Calico Liberty, a Sten gun, an XL70E3 Enfield prototype, a Ruger AC556, an M1 Garand, an M14, a Browning Automatic Rifle, a Bren LMG, and even the infamous Chauchat. ...and of course there's also the Pancor Jackhammer.
I always appreciate how he takes gameplay balancing and limitations into account when talking about guns, I've seen some reviews where they get really nitpicky and disappointed when a gun isn't a 1 to 1 replica.
I wish we could get a compilation video of smaller, individual examples, so we could see his reaction to the infamous pump-action MP5 from Shadow the Hedgehog.
Great video as allways. What makes you like him extra much is the fact that he is very knowledgeable about firearms, has an understanding of the limits of the game and have an appreciation for the modders work even though he is not entirely convinced about the design. Seem like a really nice and cool guy.
Jonathan is fantastic in these videos because he has good experience with a lot of the games and game mechanics and understands that the developers have to take some liberties when it comes to the designs love you Jonathan
How about asking him to review how squads are armed in video games? Halo: Reach for example. The 5 NPC members each have a different main gun. They're supposedly some sort of elite 'general purpose' team rather than specializing in sniping or close quarters. How plausible is that?
For certain values of "different," fireteams do that in real life: an American army or marine fireteam might have one M249 light machine gun, one M16, one M16 w/grenade launcher and one M16 carbine variant. But all those guns use the same ammo - I don't think you'd mix in things like submachine guns or shotguns without a pressing need.
@@smeggiamagarwine No, I mean a special utility that justifies complicating your logistics. If you give your fireteam an anti-tank missile launcher it's because you think that your fireteam level elements require the capacity to destroy vehicles. A submachine gun or shotgun doesn't have that kind of use case where it is so much better than just having another M16.
The detail of the Pancor Jackhammer looks accurate to the one Ian showed off years ago on Forgotten Weapons (which IIRC is the one that keeps showing up in movies as a prop), it's such a distinct magazine design I was honestly impressed the modder did the guide channels.
I really want a collab between Jonathon Ferguson and Zach from Mikeburnfire (known for his gun rants videos, also a former armourer in the US Army) where they just talk about guns for an hour or 3, I'd watch the whole thing many times over
Would love to see Jonathan’s impressions of some of the weapons in Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, particularly the crossbow/gun hybrid weapons and the shotguns that you just have to sprinkle magic dust into despite some of them having a visible magazine that isn’t used 😆
Please tell me these make much sense,I worry for him sometimes after the silliness we put him through in Borderlands 3. (On that note is there a way to show him some of the saner weapons from Dahl and Jakobs?)
some of the "game engine limitations" that Jonathan was talking about was just Mod Authors not making animations for the guns as they would be limited to a single animation (until recently) but there are several weapon mods out there for FNV that have animations and good ones at that
14:07 Wierdly enough, Fallout 2 did not have an L85, ithad the XL70E3 prototype of all things. As well as the XL73E2 in game named light support weapon.
Its incredible how active NV modding scene still is. Ive seen some video recently overhauling a lot of weapons animations and make it look so much better than what we see here.
fun fact: during world war 2 the landmine on a stick actually was a weapon meant for disabling light tanks turret. although you didn't actually throw it .
9:38 It looks like its taking the concept of the Lunge Mine from WW2 - which was an anti-tank mine on a stick that required a soldier to run up to a tank and poke it (suffice to say, such a thing was a one-way trip). In New Vegas, the idea appears to have been adapted as a thrown weapon to expand that class of weapon in the game (and keep the player outside of the blast radius)
Regarding the camera gun at 21:55, it may be a reference to a quirk of an existing game mechanic. There is a semi-working camera in FNV (the "Codac R9000") that you use to photograph locations for a quest, but it's counted as a firearm. It does no damage and doesn't anger NPCs if you shoot it at them, but they do remark on the player "wasting ammunition" and "disturbing the peace", and it can also trigger a potentially-hostile encounter if you photograph the Boulder City Memorial (since the game thinks you've just vandalized it with a gunshot).
@@Gigadweeb I meant more in terms of general texture resolution, colour and lighting. most of those mods are also super-easy to install and rarely-ever conflict with anything.
Bit of an older game, but I'd love to see Jonathan react to Perfect Dark's weapons. It would be interesting to see him try to wrap his head around the guns.
Great timing; I've just started playing modded FNV again! Also if you're taking requests I would love to see him talk about the guns in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain! My favorite game of all time, and you could have some fun showing him the squirt gun, and there's even a mod to change all the weapon names to what they're supposed to be in the real world (because copyright).
Awesome you reviewed the best game ever made! 😃 A couple points: first, on a engine level most of these issues have been solved. Clipping (not enough anim slots) and burst functionality have been fixed through various kNVSE extensions & mods. Second, there are other MP5 mods & some are done very well. I think NickHeggo has one. Maybe iSebastien as well?
Suppressor on the AK is closer to a PBS-4, which was the one used on suppressed AKSU's due to the short barrel length in order to ensure the gun cycled properly. The PBS-1 is shaped more like a typical flashlight, the PBS-4 is the weird cigar shape (also the PBS-1 is a 7.62 caliber suppressor, the PBS-4 is for 5.45)
As a person with big meaty claws for hands, wrapping the grip is absolutely practical. When I used to play airsoft I would wrap a few layers of hockey tape around the grips of my air guns so they could fit my hands more comfortably
Well Jonathan, such a camera gun was actually fired in a test of the show Deadliest Warrior. Episode of CIA vs KGB, where it was KGB used, and they used it in a test scenario of an assassination to a ballistic gel head. Like a reporter and cameraman disguise to assassinate a person giving a speech at podium or answering questions. Fired from 10 feet away and the expert firing it shot it into the ballistic head. Which it was so cool seeing it actually used in a mock-up spy assassination scenario.

I think what’s worse about when the Rock hip fires the browning is that it’s not the usual M2 browning it’s one of the models that is mounted to helicopters and such so it’s firing at 800-1000 rounds per minute
also, the M2HB mod doesn't have a stand alone model, so if you drop it on the ground, it vanishes.
Have him react to the cursed halo CE mod, and don’t tell him.
We are just trying to break this man's psyce at this point
All of this lol.
Yes. We need to subject Jonathon to Cursed Halo.
oh dear
Yes! Now look at Fallout 4! In just know Jonathan will love the Service Rifle mod by DeadPool2099.
I think Jonathan might throw up with some of the weapon models on Fallout 4
the modding community in FO4 has done some amazing things, and the engine is a lot more refined than the NV version. All that said NV is just a better game overall, but if you're looking at mod guns FO4 is absolutely the game to look at
@@SavageGreywolf "NV is a better game overall" and other funny jokes to tell to your friends
I would love Jonathan to react to the Machineguns and Miniguns Rebirth mods along with the SREP, the G11 and all other stuff.
Maybe also a goofy one like Dak's Shoulder Mounted .50
@@eugene12310mobile He also has to react to the QBZ-191 mod too
The Camera is an actual game play mechanic, where you're tasked with taking photos of signs by an NPC, but in game mechanics it's treated like a gun that does no damage. The Camera mod probably just took that and gave it some more damage.
Fatal Frame
This took "Fatal Frame" a whole step further.
"This is Johnathan Ferguson, the reason why our channel is still relevant."
The bit that comes out of the ppsh looks to be a custom added dust cover that comes out what would be a dremeled slot in the back / side of the receiver.
Should totally look at the guns in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R franchise. There are really good Guns+mods
Kinda wish he reviewed some of the weapons from the, "Supplementary Weapons Pack" mod. Really well detailed weapons with great animations
I was really hoping to see the AK-50 mod. I would love to hear what Jonathan has to say about this gun, and if he knows that it is real.
Yes. I was hoping for that too. But correct me if I'm wrong, Jonathan have mentioned Brandon in some other reaction series or it was just confused me?
"Please don't fight me, The Rock." is one of the funniest lines I could imagine delivered here.
I really hope they review the guns in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R franchise.
Yes. Definitely want this
+1
My goodness! Yes please.
Yess
Yes! Especially the Gauss rifle
Wow, good on you for including links to the mods in the video description!
It would be interesting to see Johnathon’s reaction to the guns in Bioshock, from the 24 round revolver to the semi automatic pump shotgun.
15:50 That "Homemade Rifle" looks like it was heavily based off the Welgun and converted to bolt action
There's also the closer example of Japanese troops using shaped charges at the end of poles as a last ditch AT weapon
I love when he goes full like "Aw yea that's actually pretty good," with the fully custom one at 15:51
i mean, the Pancor Jackhammer was already a thing in the Fallout universe, it existed in FO2 and Tactics
Plus some that are a combination and some being a combination of time periods!
@@darthcerebus Definitely, despite being fictional some of the guns feel more realistic than Vandguard abominations so Jonathan would appreciate that lol
I've been saying they need to do the newest Wolfensteins 🙌🏻
@@hugostiglitz491 New Order, Old Blood and New Colossus would be awesome. Plenty to review across all three games!
@@afd19850 Yep indeed, they can skip Youngblood not bc it's regarded as bad but the majority of the guns are the same ones from TNC
This was a fun one, love hearing Johnathan talk about guns, gets me excited
I wrap some of my grips with athletic tape - some kinds of plastic make my shooting hand unreasonably sweaty.
Could do with more of Millenia's mods, legendary mod creator for New Vegas.
Aww
I always appreciate how he takes gameplay balancing and limitations into account when talking about guns, I've seen some reviews where they get really nitpicky and disappointed when a gun isn't a 1 to 1 replica.
In bethesda games you can use console command tfc in third person mode to get real nice closeups. sucsm "number" also changes it's speed.
The suppresser at 8:21 is not a pbs-1, its a pbs-4 AK suppressor.
Didn't expect you guys to have our dude react to FNV mod guns. Neat.
It’s nice seeing that He hasn’t lost his sanity XD nice to see you still here mate
I think the Japanese forces in WWII used AT mines on poles against American armor in the Pacific Theater.
It was about as effective as you'd think.
They sure did, as any Bolt Action player will tell you they're awful unless you catch them in the open
this was an incredibly entertaining video, would be a good idea to make a part 2.
The game happens to feature mods just to put more salt into poor Johnathan's wound of reviewing cursed weaponry.
The detail of the Pancor Jackhammer looks accurate to the one Ian showed off years ago on Forgotten Weapons (which IIRC is the one that keeps showing up in movies as a prop), it's such a distinct magazine design I was honestly impressed the modder did the guide channels.
More Hotdogs Horseshoes and Hand grenades! Maybe jump into some of the mods there
I would like to see him observe the gigantic M1911
Always nice to see an expert whose happy to be generous to 'fan' work given their limitations and allow for flights of imagination.
Will there be a possibly for Jonathan to cover the Serious Sam franchise
I really want a collab between Jonathon Ferguson and Zach from Mikeburnfire (known for his gun rants videos, also a former armourer in the US Army) where they just talk about guns for an hour or 3, I'd watch the whole thing many times over
Would love to see Jonathan’s impressions of some of the weapons in Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, particularly the crossbow/gun hybrid weapons and the shotguns that you just have to sprinkle magic dust into despite some of them having a visible magazine that isn’t used 😆
awsome, the modders for some of these games are super talented and deserve some love
Please tell me these make much sense,I worry for him sometimes after the silliness we put him through in Borderlands 3.
(On that note is there a way to show him some of the saner weapons from Dahl and Jakobs?)
as a modder i enjoyed this episode in particular, would love to see more similar to it
I'd love to see Jonathan overview valorant's guns! they are mostly unique and really cool.
some of the "game engine limitations" that Jonathan was talking about was just Mod Authors not making animations for the guns as they would be limited to a single animation (until recently) but there are several weapon mods out there for FNV that have animations and good ones at that
You gotta show him Hitman's animation mods!
Trivia: Fallout Tactics on the PC does have the M2 Browning as a weapon to use. Power Armor also makes wielding this gun plausible.
This guy has seen to much crazy guns
20:40 a certain Zach would like to have a word with whoever made that specific gun :)
This needs to be done with hitman’s animations
Regarding the camera gun at 21:55, it may be a reference to a quirk of an existing game mechanic. There is a semi-working camera in FNV (the "Codac R9000") that you use to photograph locations for a quest, but it's counted as a firearm. It does no damage and doesn't anger NPCs if you shoot it at them, but they do remark on the player "wasting ammunition" and "disturbing the peace", and it can also trigger a potentially-hostile encounter if you photograph the Boulder City Memorial (since the game thinks you've just vandalized it with a gunshot).
He should do fallout 4’s mod guns, specifically the higher quality ones
I know that it's his job to know about guns of all sorts but I am still very impressed by the sheer breadth of Jonathan's knowledge.
The captions in the titles are more annoying than useful.
15:24 "One of the ergonomic quirks..."
You sir, are such a gentleman.
if they were gonna mod it they could've at least made the effort to not make the game look like doo-doo.
@@Gigadweeb I meant more in terms of general texture resolution, colour and lighting. most of those mods are also super-easy to install and rarely-ever conflict with anything.
That's what I need in my life. A New Vegas mod that features all of the weapons from the isometric Fallouts.
My man single handedly keeping game spot alive
Bit of an older game, but I'd love to see Jonathan react to Perfect Dark's weapons. It would be interesting to see him try to wrap his head around the guns.
Great timing; I've just started playing modded FNV again! Also if you're taking requests I would love to see him talk about the guns in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain! My favorite game of all time, and you could have some fun showing him the squirt gun, and there's even a mod to change all the weapon names to what they're supposed to be in the real world (because copyright).
Awesome you reviewed the best game ever made! 😃
A couple points: first, on a engine level most of these issues have been solved.
The PBS-1 is shaped more like a typical flashlight, the PBS-4 is the weird cigar shape (also the PBS-1 is a 7.62 caliber suppressor, the PBS-4 is for 5.45)
I think Mr. Ferguson would love the weapon mods of Fallout 4 a lot. There are a lot of high quality modelers and animators in Fallout 4 modding scene.
That's what that shows called the name has been rolling in my head but I never could remember it thank you.
At 29:28: the Pancor Jackhammer featured prominently in Fallout 2. It's great to see someone modded it back into the game. :)
Like this one a ton! I hope there's even more of these :D
