  • We think 2000hp is the new 1500hp for top class circuit, timeattack, hill climb, and road racing!
    Our engine designer Oskar explains the updates from the original Thor "v1" engine, and how these are best put to use to maximize the performance and lap times of your race car.
    Thor v2 also further improves the worlds best power to weight ratio for high performance circuit racing. We quickly go through why extreme weight savings is so important on high performance race cars.
    Check out more details of our 3x back-to-back world championship engine on our web shop: shop.elmerracing.com/14-racin...

      @@ElmerRacing Thanks for the reply. I would imagine you might want to keep that sort of data private given the competitive nature of racing anyway. I'll have to be honest, my curiosity towards a dyno sheet stems from a deep curiosity as to how one of these engine would feel like in a drift car. Simulated, of course, but with the way budgets are going in the sport these days, maybe you guys will eventually get a few calls from drift teams, I could imagine that.

    • @ElmerRacing
      @ElmerRacing  ปีที่แล้ว

      For optimum power/mass ratio at this power level with a four stroke engine, we think this has to be very close to the optimal layout. Electric and turbines don't stand a chance. Two strokes maybe.
      With some more hardcore design effort we could probably drop a further 25% off the mass also.

    A couple of TH-cam "experts" say there are secondary balance issues with inline 4 of this size. Is that a fact and did you do something to overcome that? Good luck, keep up yje great work.

    • @ElmerRacing
      @ElmerRacing  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      There are always imbalances in every engine. Just depends on how accurately you want to calculate the loads, and their locations.
      How acceptable the vibrations that result from that depend on the use case.
      One important thing to note that is often overlooked in "balance" discussions is the power output unevenness. If the forces resulting from balance design are much lower than the forces resulting from power output unevenness, you're not going to gain a lot by focusing on "balance".

    • @ElmerRacing

      Making the engine even smaller would reduce mass further!
      Problem is that you don't see many circuit racing 1000hp 2l engines with a good powerband. Still a ways to go to be able to get a 2l to 2000hp for circuit racing without making the whole package heavier and more complex than a single stage turbo 4 liter.
