I know I'm going to get "But we still have December left how do you know you won't like something more"
I get promos and I have a lot of them for the albums I'm interested and looking forward to coming out in December. I've listened to them and I just know nothing will top this for me.
    When you know... you know...

Fantastic review, I'm glad someone else out there understands Austin's music and the incredible emotional connection it forges with the listener. I discovered Austin's music during what I would consider to be my lowest point, and it resonated with me far more than anything had up to that point. Amidst the themes of desperation, sorrow, and fury, it is one of the few black metal projects that shows a glimmer of optimism and hope. I've been very fortunate to experience Panopticon live on five different occasions, and visit the Hammerheart Brewery in Minnesota.
It's difficult to express just how significant his music is to me, as I feel like I can relate to Austin's struggles, with albums like '...And Again Into The Light' mirroring my own. The reality of 'The Rime of Memory's' themes and dual meaning hits incredibly hard, and musically it draws influences spanning Austin's entire discography, weaving the entire album into an overwhelmingly emotional, tearful experience. I'll have to listen to Rime a few dozen more times (it's hard not to just let it loop again), but I genuinely think it's some of his best work to date. Amusingly we came to the same conclusion, that we knew it would be one of the best albums to come out this year - for me, nothing else is even remotely close. What an unforgettable masterpiece to add to an already unreal discography.
Thanks again for the review, I really enjoyed it 🙂

I really enjoy Panopticon a lot and have been really tempted to pick this up. I cannot tell you how many times I have listened to their albums late at night when I am unable to sleep. Nice review.

A most heartfelt review, I feel the same about his albums everytime one drops. My darn Decibel subscription ran out right before the Austin issue... but still purchased it separately because of course!

This was definitely a surprise of an album for me. It’s very, very good. It has a whole lot of soul.

This record already made my top 10 list and I haven't even heard the whole record yet. Cedar Skeletons alone qualifies this record! I'd like to see Panopticon collaborate with Christopher Nolan or Darren Aronofsky on a film project. His music is so cinematic, a collaboration could be pretty remarkable.

Definitely amazing music, but my AOTY is Ascended Deads "Evenflow of the Apocalypse". Pans song writing is amazing though!

As a CD guy it bums me out that Marty only releases LPs now.

My guess is CDs weren’t selling and hes sitting on piles of inventory

Yeah, the label loses money releasing CDs. Even for a popular band like Panopticon Marty ends up with dead stock that no one will buy. Last time I checked he still had copies from the last time he released a Panopticon album on CD. I too wish there were CD pressings but it would bankrupt the label- there's just not enough demand for CD versions.

@letstalkmetal Perhaps a lower print run? Say it's limited or hand numbered and the collector nerds will buy them.

@@benng4376 Perhaps but it's a hard target to hit. Print too many and you've wasted money filling your storage area with dead stock. Print too few and folks will complain endlessly about you manufacturing artificial scarcity and having them appear on Discogs at inflated prices, which feels bad for everyone.
I don't think BR printed a ton of CD copies of 'The Scars of Man' and Marty still had them sitting on the shelf gathering dust years later. If there was enough demand to warrant a CD pressing then you can bet Marty and Austin would do it. They stopped making CD pressings because there just aren't enough people who will buy that format currently.
