Austin is an amazing musician, Panopticon is today one of my favorites BM bands ever especially because the high quality music and how impressively consistent he is

It's quite impossible to choose a favourite album of his. Depending on my mood, I tend to go back and forth between Autumn Eternal, Kentucky, The Scars of Man and Roads to the North. Certainly among my favourite artists of all time.
Austin can do no wrong. Phenomenal musician (probably my favourite drummer working) and just an awesome dude in general. Roll on payday so I can get this bought.
This was one of the hardest reviews to watch on this channel simply because it seemed like Sarah looked like either she wanted to cry because of either something going on or because she connected to this album so much in an emotional way. She is my fav member of bangertv by far

Also Autumn Eternal is my favorite
It's so rare for an artist to consistently turn out quality. Panopticons done it again with this album. His formula is one that has yet to get old. Favorite track: Cedar Skeletons. Especially when it hits that 12 min mark. Just in time for winter listening.
Panopticon is to atmospheric black metal what Neurosis is to Post Metal. They are in their own category and can never be duplicated. True originals in every way.
Autumn Eternal is my no.1. And other no. 10 studio albums that are great? That's a cool thought experiment.

Autumn Eternal is my favourite. Roads to the North as well. Also, every time I listen to them, I’m also reminded of how much I miss Agalloch.

🔥Panopticon🤘 Debut, Social Disservices, …Into the Light my fave. Enslaved still strong at albums 10 to 16. Amorphis also at albums 11 to 14.
This was serendipitous. Panopticon came to mind two days ago whilst I was watching another review which included Wayfarer, reviewer was lauding Wayfarer (and rightfully so), he pointedly referred to the originality of the traditional American instrumentation but neglected to mention Panopticon. (No slight on the reviewer as I recognise both artists are coming at it from a different angle but it’s still BM, which goes to prove how incredibly and amazingly diverse the BM scene is when you actually listen to it).
So now I am elated that I can now once again scream, raise devil horns, headbang and cry to Panopticon for over an hour, then head south into a Saloon bar for a gun fight over a lover’s tiff between two Vampires. As an Aussie I’m also intrigued and excited by your reference to Midnight Odyssey, which will satiate me as I depart a land of Fire and Ice as portrayed by our own ‘KING’, (Dave Hayley - Psycroptic).

damn, I wish I could write reviews as incredible as this!
My vinyl came five days early! I'm on my second listen, and I think The Rime of Memory just became my album of the year at the last minute. An Autumn Storm is the second Panopticon song to give me chills (the first being Dead Loons). Incredible production and mixing, the atmosphere is incredible. You can't hear every note, but it still sounds satisfying, and incredibly massive. I love when Austin does really long post-rock buildups, especially at the beginning of songs, and Winter's Ghost does an 8-minute buildup which is awesome. My favorite moments in Panopticon records are usually the softer post-rock parts, and Rime is full of them. It's too early to give it a score, but it's a very special record.
My favorite used to be On the Subject of Mortality, but I'm confident that my favorite now is The Rime of Memory. After binging Panopticon, second is now a six-way tie between Collapse, On the Subject of Mortality, Social Disservices, Roads to the North, Autumn Eternal, and And Again Into the Light.

My favorite is Autumn Eternal because it sounds like my home state and the north shore. But Kentucky was the reason I got into panopticon. No album or split or ep is a miss though. Austin just keeps doing it right. Over and over.
Best for me is between Kentucky and Roads to the North, but I love almost all of his releases.

8.7/10. Well, I am seeing him at Fortress in the UK, already excited.
Enjoy! I was considering hopping back to the motherland, from my current Norwegian home...but now I "only" need to take a 4 hour bus ride to Oslo, just before the Fortress performance I think. Listened to Roads and even more so Light, obsessively back in the summer after a few years of thinking that Panopticon sounded like my cup of tea. Have given the new one (reviewed here) a good for, engrossed listens. Autumn Eternal for the first time right now...Kentucky lined up to play next. Hoping Know Hope might get squeezed on to the Roads performance in Oslo, somehow...love that song, but then love sooo much of this chap's output.

Wish Bindrune would release the CD's of this and the previous one as standalone instead of bundled with the LP. GREAT band, though.
Me too but there's just not enough demand for cds currently. Last panopticon that got a CD press is still in stock from the label last time I checked.
Panopticon reminds me of the Japanese band MONO at times 🫤
My only complaint is that I feel the intro to Winter’s Ghost may have been about 2-3 minutes too long but other than that FANTASTIC record. Still like And Again Into the Light a bit more but still great

Best Panopticon is Roads to the North for me. And I hate that his label doesn't release stand alone CD's anymore...
They did for years and got stuck with lots of unsold stock. I like cds too but BR was taking a bath on CD pressings

I loved the last album but the production seemed janky, but not in the good way that you want black metal to be. Sounded like I was listening to it from another room. I hope this album isn't so muddy and muted.

Are you planning to include independent artists in the year summary? Like releases of Trhä or Ὁπλίτης? They are pretty mind blowing.
