So happy to have found this video. What a fabulous, beautiful, mesmerizing & haunting song, yet sad. He was so talented, always beautiful & so very unique in his mannerisms, the way in which he pronounced words when he sang. I love watching his mouth because it moves in such a different manner, & literally cutest man-smile ever. What a loss, waaaaaay to soon.
This human being was just so underrated. He really was simply all about being a dedicated true rock and roller. This man was on stage a mere 3 weeks up there for us, preforming and lost his battle with cancer 3 weeks later.....heartbreaking. moreso importantly, he left behind his greatest work.....his one and only child, his namesake, his beloved son: BENJAMIN ORR JR.

They were great together and it was great music but they werent like a what you would call , like other bands , there was minimal interaction. I mean Benjamin showed more than the others , but it was like they were on a tight leash.

I agree with you, Rita. He appears to have given up on himself after The Cars broke up, but didn't give up on music. Seems there was little else that mattered to him. I hope he did know how much he was loved and respected by so many for being so musically talented, humble and sweet!

Sure there were ups & downs between relationships with his girlfriends/fiances/wives....However, he filled his time a plenty with recording demos, touring with various bands & living life large with family & friends traveling, cooking, hunting, scuba diving & playing with his dogs. Benjamin had a fun-filled life that any person wish they could have had just a taste......I do not join the "pity poor" Benjamin Orr bandwagon.

Also, the popularity of 70s & 80s bands touring in the 2000s most definitely would have included Benjamin Orr in larger venues. Most of us baby boomers & gen Xrs do not cotton to the so-called 'music' that is rap, pop, hip hop, etc. I've attended several rock band concerts from the 70s & 80s as of late & they were all great ! Albeit, all members weren't always present, the music has been glorious. This summer I will see the Doobie Brothers & Carlos Santana)----so excited ! All I listen to now is the vinyl 45s & LPs that I collected as a teen. I also frequent a wonderful vinyl shop filled with super-cool records, created by REAL MUSICIANS from the 50s to about 1987 (that's about the time CD's came out). Benjamin's unfortunate fate deprived the world of all the genius & talent he still had to give. We are all the better for his musical legacy that he left us !

Maybe that'why he seems less dynamic after the cars.But he plays on his own , his songs what Ric didn' never let him on, his friends were fabulous and cooperative. As I know Benjamin likes playing live and does it, so thera are some points that should make him glad. Besides the quality of this video is very poor , I barely can see how Ben smiles . What happened to his friendship with John K? I get the impression from his bio that they parted ways. John just seems to drop out of the picture with no explanation given in the book.
Maybe.. But I was married for 32 years to a man who was bipolar (he passed away last January). It isn't always easy to deal with the vagaries of someone with emotional problems, but IMHO, you stand by your man. I mean, he got her album released when they first met. She was there for the good times, dressing up for award shows, getting her picture taken with him, being "Ben Orr's girlfriend". Too bad she couldn't handle the "worse". Because if he had problems before she left, I can guarantee he had even harder down times after she left.
I would guess you’re talking about DGP his girlfriend. Yes , she was there during the height of his fame and success. He helped get her demos recorded. I’ve read his biography Ben asked her to write the lyrics for his solo album even though she never wrote a song before in her life. She wa hoping to have a musical career through Ben. She states that she couldn’t handle his drinking and use of guns,he would carry one when they went out . Ben asked Ric if Ric could include songs he and DGP wrote in the groups last album and Ric said no,he didn’t like the lyrics.It caused bad feelings between the Ric and Ben. Ben went into”a downward spiral “ and didn’t want to write anymore songs with her. She thought she could be set in the music business but when that happened that was the last straw in addition to his moods and drinking.

I have a question, though: I've always thought that he passed away on October 3, 2000 since I've seen that date everywhere, but yet his headstone says October 4. Did the cemetery make a mistake?
His spirit told me 11:54, but I cannot get anyone that was present to verify. So be it. If people do not believe spirits can be among us, that's their right. All I know is that he's with me every day, and is still communicating between realms.@@TraceyL.ByeByeLvTheCars

There's no getting around that terrific pain, as no one here gets out alive. We know there's going to be the loss eventually, and that's the crappy part of loving. But, in my pinion, all the greatness of loving is well worth the pain.

He was happiest during the 70s and first half of eighties I think. Once the Cars split he was very down.

He passed away just before midnight on the 3rd. The doctor didn't arrive until a bit later to officially confirm from what I've heard...
