i understand that Pierre has to mark up in order to stay afloat, but it's the part where he claims to have personally grown the crops i sold him that i start wanting to run him *and* morris out of town and become the valley's direct-selling queen of produce
It's not even an understanding. It's an expectation. If I sell something to a retail place, I expect them to sell it for 3x as much. But yeah, the issue is lying about the origin.
That and he has a dialogue where he talks about wanting to open a bunch of new stores and become filthy rich (Not sure if this a new line added for 1.6 or it was there before) but yeah he's any better than Joja imo, probably the exact same as when Joja got started. I feel like he has less of a small business owner mindset and more of a start up mindset lol.
It's even worse than that. If you sell him good quality crops- yes he'll lie and say he's grown them himself. BUT if they're poor quality then he'll have no problem saying that the crops are from the farmer. WTF. (I always choose the Joja route because I'm petty and I play with the Expanded mod anyway.)

Yeah, in a capitalist society, that's literally the only way stores and businesses can survive. If he sold the farmer's crops for the same amount he bought them, Pierre would've gone out of business pretty much instantly without being able to make a profit.
