  • CPM is not Visual, but that is not the only reason why it is dead in construction, See my explanation on why Float = Firefighting.
I speak about this and other topics in my CPM is Dead webinar at the lean construction blog. Check it out here: lean-construct...

CPM is a theoretical best path. There is no improvement or alternative that invalidates it

A theory that is not holding in the construction industry, if only 30% of projects finish on time, also the math itself that a handful of folks from DuPont invented in 1959 all that came from that was the backwards pass and the calculation of float, and even in the original writing on CPM they admit that it is not a practical schedule, because of lack of addressing resources and potential issues. Which some try and mitigate but overall in my particular industry it has done nothing to help us. Jake you might really see more of my thoughts on this in my other video: 4 Levels of Flow - CPM IS DEAD

@@SpencerEastonChannel I agree with everything you say here. But cpm is a theory, it will never be dead. If you are suggesting looking at a certain way cpm is displayed, I would agree improvements are welcome and needed

The video is actually really well made, and you present well. However your argument isn't for a better methodology, it's simply a better way to summarize it for people. I agree this way is better

@@jakeharrell8285 Yes, If I ruled the world (which thank God I dont), I would prefer Takt in the realm of construction, what I call takt actually is the Construction Takt Planning and Control out of Germany, But Really my whole reason for my video in the first place is to lay down some solid examples of how to get better and flow, in hopes that one day nothing is boiler plate and or mandatory. Right now most of the construction world is mandated to use CPM. and I would really just love it if one day we can choose what ever we want, not mandate a new standard but get to the point of each individual project could use what ever method or system they want, as long as the owner/ customer is fine with the approach. This is my ultimate goal. I do have a whole class around Takt and how it applies in construction and where to start which I know might not be for you but for anyone reading this that is interested.
