2:45 I don't know how true it is, but people say that there was a time when taking a piece if it was offered was considered to be the gentlemanly thing to do, even to your own detriment. Not quite a rule, but definitely considered disrespectful not to do it.
Now, I don't know of a lot of evidence for that. Under most common circumstances now, what is considered respectful is to put the strongest resistance possible while there is a fight to be had and what is considered disrespectful is to "sandbag" or to continue playing an objectively lost position.
The one exception, and what I hypothesize to be the last remnant of the "old ways", is en passant. What kind of chess player are you if you don't take en passant when offered? How will your opponent know that they are playing against someone who actually knows how to move all the pieces if you don't demonstrate it at every opportunity? And not shouting "en passant" in your thinkest french accent while doing so?
I don't know how I would react to being disrespected like that. I certainly would not accept a friend being treated like that. Why I think that would be deserving of a disaproving glare and, dare I say, a scoff!

I talked with Carlsen and he said he preferred the name "BOOMERANG OPENING" instead of the plow opening (for the H4 opening). (he said plow sounded too much like "blow" and he didn't want to be associated with something that sucks and blows. So BOOMERANG it is then.

@@Anon74D In norwegian it does. Just look at the words: BLOW vs PLOW. The only difference is a little line on the P to become B. So they are too close and people might get confused. With BOOMERANG there is no confusion and since he already accepted, it is now formally called the "BOOMERANG OPENING" (since the pawn is "thrown" away from the opponent, but comes back to haunt the opponent later in the game. Just as a boomerang is thrown away from the prey but comes back to attack him later).

So confused. Did MC really rip one? But then later it's said Fabi was rumbling? Then it's claimed farting mid-match isn't against the rules...butt is frowned upon (shouldn't that be browned upon)? And how can it not be illegal? That's as abusive af. It's not an insignificant thing. If you have to do it, you should be obligated to take the hit on the clock and get up to go do it away from the board. Forcing your opponent to contend with that comes with a huge hit concentration-wise. Until this gets properly addressed, it needs to part of everyone's gameplan to be prepped with this Hail Mary.
