    If you want to see a follow up to this video our ghost from the seance came back a year later with same name and voice; gave me goosebumps! Also includes history on old Ghost Hunting equipment. Check it out! th-cam.com/video/Ng7g5ImKqw4/w-d-xo.html

      Hi. This was the first time playing with the unit. I did not know what to think and many of the answers I heard after in my headphones during editing so I boosted the audio. Some viewers thought it was fake but the answers really came from this device, only I had to increase the volume. However, this year I made another video and I was taken aback when I heard what seems like the same voice answer "Philip" again and we got more answers this year. Again all from the device (minus the shaking table of course). You can see it here th-cam.com/video/Ng7g5ImKqw4/w-d-xo.html Thanks for watching.

    This is basically Stripping the noise layers which is a common practice as Most Ghost Box's are very noisy, This is because they use what's called "Step Sweep" So there is an Inherent Ch Ch Ch Ch sound between steps. The problem with these types is there is about 500ms worth of missing audio as it skips this whilst stepping up/down.
    The Franks box uses a different technology, Essentially it's an Analog radio which uses a function generator to sweep Voltage on the intercepted tune circuit, This linear sweep is far superior to Step sweep as its almost comparable to Audio files, MP3 / WAV, Wav is referred too as lossless or HD Audio, MP3 Due to compression is Lossless audio, To the untrained ear you won't really notice the difference, But MP3 Is missing detail. Linear sweeping there is no loss in the frequency band, It sweeps everything and you hear everything, and believe me, clarity is key with Ghost boxes. Yes, the other type will work but it's often choppy or harder to hear.
    I produce a few models of Analog Ghost box radios based on the same technology of the franks boxes, When you hear the difference you will know, And you don't even need Audio suppressors :) Check them out on my channel or visit my store www.appydroid.store :)

    Cool halloween project and the Mrs. is 😍 as usual! I feel like making one now is the pin thing the same on any radio?

    • @RetroRepairGuy
      @RetroRepairGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi and my wife says thank you. The pin was for this particular model however the idea is the same in all of them, which is to disable the auto stop function so that they can just keep scanning through all the frequencies. Not sure if you can still find this particular model but you might want to do a search on eBay or look around or buy one already disabled and then buy the rest of the parts wherever you find them cheapest. Good luck, we had fun playing around with it and puts you in the mood for Halloween.

    Hi everyone. Some of the answers were only clearly heard when I was editing with my headphones and caught me by surprise. I find it interesting to say the least, like an entire sentence that sounds exactly like Mrs. RRG in answer to her question. I did my best to boost the signal and with headphones on you can clearly hear it.

    If you heard this stuff after the fact they were definitely EVPs. When you heard it's terrifying it was not only creepy but there is no way that came from the scanning it has to be a EVP.

      Well regardless of what it was it was strange. I'm Mulder when it comes to these things; "I want to believe". I can't deny there was not only some odd coincidences but I was taken aback when I heard in post those very faint longer sentences and wondered why we never heard it in person. Either way was a fun way to get into the Halloween spirit.

    Can you buy any portable radio for this to work? I can’t find the model you bought.

    • @RetroRepairGuy
      @RetroRepairGuy  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! Yes you can. You can of course try to look on eBay for this model otherwise any radio will do but the pin responsible for the scan would not be in the same location. You would need to look at the circuit diagram. Basically you just need to disable the scan function from stopping. I used this model to demonstrate how simple it was of a change and what the "technology" behind it was all about. Thanks for watching!

    For Halloween 2022 I built a Ghost Finder and revisited this Spirit Box with a different speaker. The results were very intriguing. "Philip" as he calls himself returned and we were able to ask more questions and get answers this time. th-cam.com/video/Ng7g5ImKqw4/w-d-xo.html And while I do have fun for Halloween making these videos, the results are real and have me asking questions until now.

    Are you selling this ?

    • @RetroRepairGuy
      @RetroRepairGuy  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi there! No I purchased all the parts from Amazon. You can easily put it together following my video. I would however select a better speaker like one with more square sides and not rounded and maybe a little wider as it is difficult to make the components stick to it properly with the velcro. For the radio if you are not comfortable doing it yourself, a few people on eBay are selling them, just don't overpay for them because it's just a tiny modification that has been done as I showed in the video. • @RetroRepairGuy
      @RetroRepairGuy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Oh no, don't get me wrong. We were really "freaked out" by the answers and the first time I clearly heard most of the answers was when I was editing. But what really did it for me is the halloween episode of last year th-cam.com/video/Ng7g5ImKqw4/w-d-xo.html when the same voice and name came back with more details. What I meant by not "being impressed" was with the technology. From an electronics point of view, taking a radio, removing a pin and charging someone over $200 for what is called a "Ghost Box" was just wrong. Whereas put all together in a box with the other stuff I could understand. Also, as I presented in the beginning the Franks' box had a little circuit designed to it that was featured in a magazine and was said to actually work; that was interesting from an electronics' point of view. You might enjoy last year's episode I also have history of the old stuff from the 1930's and you can see the follow up seance. We just had a little fun with the shaking table at the end but the rest is all real and from the box. Thanks for watching!

      Hi! You mean the communication stuff I did at the end? I only did it again last Halloween th-cam.com/video/Ng7g5ImKqw4/w-d-xo.html and I was extremely surprised that the answers I got not only resembled the exact same voice from last year but gave the same name "Philip". So I got this radio model off eBay but it’s a newer version with a ribbon cable. So am I basically screwed over cause it won’t work with this version

    • @RetroRepairGuy
      @RetroRepairGuy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there! I'm sorry to hear the manufacturer actually changed the connection however, If it's the same model but has a ribbon, I suspect the ribbon replaced the pin connector. I could be wrong but compare the two when I show the inside. If that is the case, then it would be the same and you would just have to cut the connection for that wire. The instructions I gave were based on this specific radio but it can be done with any radio that has this function provided you know a little about electronics or have the service manual for the device. Thanks for watching.

    • @TheCrosx731
      @TheCrosx731 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RetroRepairGuy from what I hear it has changed 3 times for the same model. But the placement of the ribbon is not the same placement as the pin. I believe it maybe a different chip sadly. I will look again later today but I’m not optimistic after reviewing a bit and seeing everybody with the same issue. What would be the targeted pin/cable? The mute?

    • @RetroRepairGuy
      @RetroRepairGuy  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheCrosx731 Wow I did not know that and wonder why they didn't just give it a different model number instead. That pin was responsible for stopping the scanning when it finds a signal. Cutting it just made it continue scanning non stop as if it nevers finds any channels. If you don't have a schematic, you'll need to do some trial and error. However, if you see the chip number you can Google that to get the specs which will show you each pin output and then follow that leg to where it goes on the board. Sorry I can't be more specific. Maybe try going backwards like follow the scan button and see where it connects to. You don't want to disable the scanning button just the part that detects the channel. I did see some people on YT who also added a switch or button to make this happen but you would have to look at what they did, might be another option. For sure it can be done with the model you have, it's just a matter of finding the where and how.

      Music and dialogue in all videos is adjusted to 16 LUFS, SFX at 21 while background at 30. This is pretty much a standard. It's possible on an older video this had not been done but I believe here it was.

    Ghost boxes have not been transformed into spirit portals. The portal is just a simple amplifier with pedals( which actually hinders good communication. Noisegate reduces the ability to receive lower frequency voices, and reverb tends to muddy the audio. The modified radio with an external speaker(if needed), is all one needs.

    • @RetroRepairGuy
      @RetroRepairGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Kevin. I'm not an expert in Spirit Portals or Ghost Radios but I had done some research and I am a little confused about when you say that portals are amplifiers with pedals since that was what I did; I added amplification and pedals. Are you saying portals are different all together, do they not scan radio channels? I would be curious to know from an electronic point of vue the internal workings of it. On the other side I wanted to explain the inner workings of the "Ghost Box" and make something fun at the same time for Halloween but I'll look into it a little more. Thanks so much for watching.

    • @kevmodee1866
      @kevmodee1866 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@RetroRepairGuy Hello. Actually, the whole concept of using a hacked radio to scan the radio frequencies without stopping(ghostbox), plugged into a mini amplifier or external speaker; along with the use of pedals(usually reverb and noise reduction), was deemed a "portal) by a TH-camr at Huff Paranormal. Sadly, he's quite the con artist and has mislead many with his fraudulent communication. Using an external speaker can certainly assist with perhaps clarity and volume, but the use of a noise gate can hinder and too much reverb muddies the audio. But experimenting with audio and devices can be rather interesting. Bless

  • @ParanormalBusters
    @ParanormalBusters 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    DUDE WHAT YOU DID THEIR IS BETTER THEN HUFF PARANORMAL YOU SEE YOU LOOPED THE AUDIO BACK INTO ITSELF AND CAN YOU MAKE A TETORIAL ON WHY THE 9 VOLT NEEDS A RESUDER PLEASE EXPLAIN THAT FURTHER FOUND SAME PROBLEM ON MINE

    • @RetroRepairGuy
      @RetroRepairGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi. For the 9V it's only because the pedal used a negative tip and the connectors I ordered had a positive tip so I had to switch them. It's as if the battery was put in the wrong way. so all I did was cut the wire and send red to black and black to red. Using a universal power adapter with a reversible tip you can switch it and that's how I saw it was the wrong tip and not sending power to the pedal.

    I have a rigid R84084 18v radio I would like to convert. I can get it to auto scan continuous but it doesn’t pause on the stations. Any advice would be helpful, cannot find a schematic nor am I very knowledgable in the electronics. Thank you

    • @RetroRepairGuy
      @RetroRepairGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there! I took a quick look around and can't find a service manual or schematic for this unit. Without that I would have to have the radio opened in front of me to follow the signal path of the scan button. The idea is to basically make it as if you're finger is always on that button. Could be as simple as shorting two pin together or all controlled in an IC and a bit more complex. Sorry there is no way to know without taking a look inside, especially without a schematic. Thanks for watching.

    • @RetroRepairGuy
      @RetroRepairGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Yes, as stated in the video there are many radios out there being sold as "Ghost Boxes" which are just radios with the scan function that's been tampered with. You can use any radio that has the scan feature and the radio also needs an earphone jack. Then you have to figure out where to modify the scan for that particular radio. Then use that radio to make this little project. Thanks for watching!

      I cut many of the stuff between and only showed when we were getting answers. Unfortunately before we started a "conversation" we repeated "hello" and "anyone there?" multiple times. Also as I mentioned in the description, much of this recorded stuff wasn't audible, I heard it in post in my headphones and boosted the audio in post. And last but not least, Mrs. RRG's first language is Polish not English, so it doesn't always come easy for her. Thanks for watching.
