      I’ve learned that. Thank you for the suggestion, sorry if I’ve caused any ruined trails. I for sure will never say yes to riding in these conditions again when visiting Santa Cruz. I’m here to respect the trails and the builders. Thank you again 😊

      @@zap... Not every place has this rule, places with certain soil can ride in the rain like in the UK, the PNW, some spots in Pisgah. I am assuming she was with a group of locals that know the rules. No need to be so condescending.

      @@jernbek1 Very true. We have a trail here in So Cal (The San Juan Trail) that is actually more fun in the rain. Decomposed granite. Of course, little bites of sand with get into everything :)

      Agreed to not riding SC trails in the rain as a rule, but also agree some trails are also better wet/a little rainy - in CO some of the kitty litter soil trails are really only pleasant to ride when they’re wet, haha

    that is amazing, you literally did what we usually do every Thursday morning @ UCSC, same trails and the burger spot or humble sea after! you did it right. I'm glad you had a blast @ our local spot, but not sure about riding UCSC while raining! it messes up some trails and its almost not ridable while wet on steep areas. glad you visited, keep the Videos coming! and thanks for not mentioning some of those trails!

  • @BertrandHui
    @BertrandHui 2 ปีที่แล้ว +30

    I assume you didn't consider it, but riding trails when they're muddy create more work for the volunteers who are trying to maintain the trails. It's a serious pain in the ass to fix problems in trails caused by riders who are either ignorant of what their impact to muddy trails are or are extremely disrespectful to trail builders and ride anyway. Food for thought as an MTB influencer.

      @@BertrandHui yea, no shit, my brother lived 2 miles from Post, I know it well and know full well not to ride there after it rains and tell anyone I know to check with Dirty Fingers if they want good intel and a beer. Post is what I would call on the "east side" of the mtns where it's drier and the soil different from the west side. Much like WA, once on the eastside of the Cascades you can't ride in the wet. Sorry I made the comment. From what I saw in the video with the tree types and loam it appeared to be a well draining area that wouldn't leave hard tracks in sandy soil. But there are MANY places like, all the trails around Seattle, where we can ride year round with no damage, but we've also learned, like the Northshore, how to build trails to handle water, but sometimes the that doesn't matter if the soil is wrong.

    Some serious GoPro effect here - I could tell those trails were a lot steeper than it looks on video.
    When I was dreaming up my first van layout years ago, my dream was to have the garage in the back that opened directly into a shower. Bring the bike in, shut the van door, get out of muddy riding gear, into the shower, then through a second door into the van to get into clean clothes. Unfortunately, that layout requires a fair amount of length few vans have.

    • @heidikanayan3027

      The soil in socal is vastly composed of DG (decomposed granite) and water runs through it like sand so it is glorious when wet. In areas where the soil is composed mostly of clay the soil becomes sticky and soupy and riding it when it is like that destroys the trails and leaves ruts and bomb holes from breaking. When to ride in the rain really boils down to the stick factor. If the mud is sticking to everything and caking up like butter cream frosting it is a no go. If it isn't then go for it.
