    He just gave better diet advice than most "fitness" infuencers, eat more clean/less calories dence foods, just be aware of what your eating, don't focus on the numbers too much, how your feeling and looking is often a better mothod than your number (so take progress photos), you can weight once in a while, but it's better to not make that your main focus.

    • @chrisharris9577
      @chrisharris9577 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lost 50 myself doing the exact same thing (more road riding) but eating cleaner, not paying attention to numbers, feeling better and more comfortable 😀 it works!

    Good work Patrick. After I injured my shoulder I went from a 210lb lifter to a 210 blob but, thanks to the Covid lockdown and 3309 miles to date on mountain bikes, I dropped 54lbs and stopped being a wheezy fat knacker. Hurrahs all-round!

    Great video Paul and great job Patrick! When I was young, I was a fit mountain biking teenager in the mid 80's in San Jose, CA when the sport was young. Specialized had JUST brought the stumpjumper to market. I went another direction and bought a Miyata Ridge Runner. Awesome bike. I rode everywhere around the santa clara valley on that thing. In 1990 I switched to a GT Karakoram. In '92 I went Cannondale. Then I started my career, got married, had a family and didn't ride. in 2001 I suffered a major shoulder injury which unexpectedly retired me from my career. I started packing on the LBS. In 2004 I got divorced. In 2005 now as a single full time dad of three, I bought my kids bikes and myself a Specialized Stumpjumper FSR. I was so out of shape it hurt to ride. I'd go here and there on basic things with the kids, but nothing much. I continued to get fat...like out of control fat. In 2015 I bought a cannondale scalpel. I tried getting back to riding shape but now I was SO fat, I couldn't even keep myself on the bike seat. I ended up giving that bike to a kid who had his bike stolen. Finally, in 2018 after a dear death experience due to my ballooned weight of now 418 lbs, enough was enough. I made major life changes. Reduced my intake to 1000 hi quality calories per day. Didn't negotiate with myself ever. 18 months later I was down 80 lbs and I started MTB riding with friends. After another 18 months I was down a total of almost 170 lbs. In May of last year, I went OTB and tore all the soft tissue in my right shoulder with a surgical repair in July, so I did suffer a setback and packed on about 25 LBS being depressed and not conscientious about my diet. But I'm back to diet and exercise now, but not even close to fully recovered but working again toward the last 60 lbs I'd like to shed. In short, good, bad or indifferent, Mountain Biking has changed my life. Thank you for this video.

    My biggest cost is drivetrain related with doing so many miles. Jockey Wheels lasted just 9 months, chain was 1300km, my cassette doesn't look too great but I'll be letting that start slipping before I replace the full sha-bang.
    I love these inspirational stories, I hope to share mine one day

    I resumed mountainbiking late 2020. I used Strava (free subscription) to record basic biking stats beginning May, 2021.
    My year-end report (covering May-December, 2021) states that I biked 1,785 km & climbed 25,814 m in 79 active days with 108 accumulated hours. To me, that's already a feat! Mountainbiking kept me sane during this pandemic & still keeping me sane to date!
    A toss to every biker's health & well-being! Lots'a love, cheers, & Mabuhay, from tropical Philippines! #KeepBiking

    Well done Paul! Patrick, I love your story. I need to get out of my "Corona Funk" and back out on the bike. I gained weight through this stupid pandemic and I feel like shit because of it. I even have a bike trainer, and I stopped riding it last spring. I beat myself up about not riding and it is a vicious circle. Thanks for your story and thank you to Paul for sharing it. I might reach out to you Patrick in the future for my "Over the bars with BostonDon" project. Take care, Don

    Paul thank you for sharing Patrick's story. Weirdly it is like mine. 5 yrs. ago I was around 255 pounds and 44 yrs. old. I had some dental work that helped me to change my diet. I also got deeper into cycling. Mostly paved trails with the family at this point. Today I am 170 pounds and have dived into mountain biking with my new eMTB. So far, I am just loving it. Like I said earlier today "My bike is my happy place".

    This is the thing people on diets or weight losing programs and gym schedules completely miss: get an active hobby that you genuinely ENJOY! Something that you love doing, look forward to each week, and can’t get enough of. That plus new eating habits that actually taste & feel good (although healthy) and the lbs/kilos will drop off by themselves

    People tend to forget that its like a circle, get a little fitter, feel a little better, make better health choices and this then becomes a cycle, it also happens if you are on a downhill run, lose fitness, feel a little crapper, make worse health choices. Finding a sport that you are passionate about will make the upwards cycle much easier

    I was having a rough year since 2019 then the pandemic came which amplified the stress and depression etc.
    Decided to take the leap and bought my first XC bike last year. Best decision I've made tho a bit pricey, it helped me de-stress and exercise at the same time.
    I can seriously relate to this guy, didn't have a pleasant experience riding trails the first time but I just kept at it every weekend riding and improving one step at a time.
    Kudos to him for cutting that weight down, I'm working on that as well but meals just taste so much better after a hard session LMAO
