Salvatore - Sellswords Trilogy, Stephen Fry - Troy, Terry Pratchett - Bromeliad Trilogy,
I’m so glad you recommended this a few years ago. One of my favorite series of all time. The characters, dialogue, and world building are all incredible.
It’s worth mentioning that the first book works really well as a stand-alone for those who are phobic of unfinished series. There isn’t even really any major unfinished threads I can think of. Once you hit the end of book 3 though it does leave you wanting more which is troublesome for such phobics.
Good to know! I am about 200 pages into ‘The Lies…’ and am loving it so far. I’m 50/50 on if I’ll go on to books two and or not right now. I’ll see how book one finishes and decide.
@@bradmcnutt9533 Page 200... Oh you're in for a ride haha. The next two books are both amazing as well in my opinion and well worth the read because I can't get the same fix elsewhere - but if you're someone that can't stand any loose ends at all then maybe they aren't for you.
@@kro235 , awesome to know! Thanks for letting me know. I’m really liking the first book so far. The unfinished series doesn’t bug me so much. But after I read “fantasy,” I usually go back to read something that isn’t fantasy for a few reads and then go back to it.
My time with this book series was introduced to me by yourself a while back when we were all stuck on The Name of The Wind and I couldn’t find another book that made me feel like that one that I truly enjoyed. I was hesitant to read these books because I did something unprecedented at the time which is read the entire series on Audiobooks. It was fantastic. I thank you for your suggestion on this series because I feel I’ve finally moved on from the hole in my heart that Patrick Rothfuss has left us. I’d love a 3 minute suggestion for The book that wouldn’t burn. The title itself is intriguing!
The dialogical style was for me very immersive simply top quality, and with it the world building as well which I have no complaints for. What also reeled me in so much was the overall trunk of character development, of which is some of the best I’ve seen. Everyone had a margin of depth to themselves, And not for once had I thought anything to not fit like the puzzle that it was. The romance was very well done (don’t understand the dislike for it). I found the inventiveness of vulgarity to be a necessary touch of humour that fits so well. The friendship of Jean And Locke was to me so compelling and vivid, and with it the congregation of orphans under Chains’ tutelage. I found no issue personally with the transitional timeline, it’d instead made it better and more comprehensive.
Love these books, but like the King Killer Chronicles, I never recommend the series to anyone, because I don't feel confident that it will ever be finished. I do recommend the Lies of Locke Lamora because I think it works as an amazing stand alone novel.
I need to know where you find such evocative pieces of music for your videos😂 As always, great videos! I especially enjoy the 3 minute one series focused format. They truly capture the soul of the story as well as the scope of the series that is presented :)
I recently started reading book 1 and I'm loving it so far ! Finished Age of Madness not long ago and the Abercrombie shaped hole in my heart is (very slowly) rebuilding
@@CapturedInWordsWhat's your favorite book in the series? I love all of the books series but my personal favorite is the second book. I just love how the plot progresses and how Locke is a lot more out of his comfort zone for the most of it.
@@starsift I feel like The Lies of Locke Lamora is so special to me since I loved being introduced to this world and its characters, but the 2nd book has some of the very best moments in the series. So it's very hard for me to choose between them! I think overall the 2nd is probably my favorite as well. And the third book wasn't bad, but wasn't as strong as the others in my opinion
I'm just finishing the 2nd book (95%)! I loved book 2. Book 1 was okay, but I always have issues with first books - The Way of Kings is another good example - I only became a massive Stormlight fan towards the last 10% of the book. I got hooked to Mistborn 1 and Name of the Wind immedaitely, but TWoK and Lies of Locke Lamora I didn't vibe until the very last pages and now I'm hooked for life. Into book 3 I go! Locke&Jean is a really strong duo. I can't wait to see how their relationship will develop in book 3
Great recommendation with the caveat that, much like The Song of Ice and Fire and Kingkiller, the series may never be completed. I think that is a serious deal breaker for some
@@hannahbrennan2131 Agree...this series does work alot better as standalones than the other 2 I mentioned. Just think people should be aware that it isn't actually done
Great recommendation! These have been on my TBR for a while now. I just finished listening the the Poppy War trilogy, that would be a good 3 minute recommendation! Also, random recommendation, Chronicles of the Unhewn Throne Trilogy! Have a good day!
Nice. Having exhausted all of Stephen R Donaldson's work, the only fantasy books I found to be at least as good as Tolkien, I thought my lifelong relationship with fantasy was done. I think it was back in '08 when I gambled and read Lynch's first book in the series, and my faith was reinvigorated. The first book alone is truly remarkable.
I really loved the first book when I read it a few months ago but somehow I wasn't in a hurry to continue reading the series. Not sure, why that is. But I will get to it at some point, I'm sure
Previously like I'd said that your videos made me started fantasy with Mistborn. Then how i was contemplating between The King Killer Chronicles and The First Law. But I went with King killer and I'm glad that I did. It has become my favourite Fantasy series. I just love these type of stories, writing, characters, worlds. And after seeing this video I think my next series will be The Gentleman Bastard. So what do you think? Should I go with this series or any other series if I like king killer Chronicles?
I loved Kingkiller as well. Most people that have read both enjoy both Kingkiller and Lies, but I might be biased because they are my two favourite series ever. I'm cursed with enjoying authors that struggle to finish their series lol
Nice video. This book looked good and was thinking of buying it.thanks for endorsement Could you review 'The priory of the orange tree' please thanks.😊
Not wrong really, Six of Crows is sort of like the same thing, but for kids/young adults. And Lies (and the other books) were published before Six of Crows.
From what I’ve heard the plan was for it to be a 7 book series but the author Scott Lynch is suffering from mental health issues. I hope he is able to work through whatever he is struggling with and hopefully we will see this wonderful series finished.
