This song came out right about the time I quit drinking. It kept me motivated and inspired, like my theme song. It’s been 17 years now. After so long, you almost forget the pain. I recently started getting involved in meetings again and it took my mind back to this song. It’s like I get to be excited for a new phase all over again.
I hope I get back to meetings, I got 30 years last November and have been in a rut since even before the pandemic. I'm mid 50s now, I've done good for myself professionally and whatnot but, many of my recovery friendships didn't last, many of my dreams didn't come true. (things they don't mention in the promises lol). My Dad's death 10 years ago threw me off & I never got back fully. But Collective Soul is the bomb!!, reminds me of great times in my life.
@@UberKrispy I had a similar path. Quit going to meetings around 5 years in. My dad died when I six years. I faced that largely alone. My friends didn’t really reach out so I got cynical and cut many ties. Now I am in a new town going to a decent netting once a week but I haven’t really found close friends by any means.
I started drinking a few months ago but it got really bad. I nearly lost my job and lost almost all friends cause of my drinking. I would do and say things to people i never meant to say. It wasn’t until recently when I had a wake up moment I stopped drinking. It feels so good to be clear headed and working on myself. Sucks how alcohol can take a lot from us but we can always get better ! Keep staying sober man !
Saw them last night in concert (San Diego). Most of his family was in the audience, as apparently there had been a family wedding that day, so it gave a special energy to the show. At one point, he pointed out his mom to the audience, said he'd only ever written two songs: his two children; Then he brought his son up on stage to sing lead vocals (duet) for this song. Thankful I got to be a part of a special moment.
I always thought Collective Soul was super underrated. I love their songs so much. I went to a concert and they were so engaging to the fans. A wonderful experience.
Because they never spit/pissed on any fans, or tore up a hotel, jailed for substance abuse, or ended themselves. Why does the world always promote degenerates?
*"Collective Soul"* is really one of the *greatest rock bands* since the 90's !... And even now - in the 2020's, believe me!... - they remain the same *great band* !...
My sons have each had their special "welcome to the world" songs at birth. This song is the "coming home" song for my 16-year-old adoptive daughter who has been through so much pain and mistreatment. I pray that it's true that the world's done shaking her down.
I went to the tour following the release of this album. They made everyone in the audience chant “the world’s done shaking me down“ to “convince“ them to do an encore. NOT COOL! I said it, but I’m not happy about it. What if I wasn’t done with the world shaking me down? Yet I was made to feel compelled to say it. That’s a verbal agreement and legally binding. I like the song, and did get the “word out” as he instructed. I told my doctor, I said “doctor, do you know that the world is done shaking Ed Roland down?” and he said “who is Ed Roland?” and I said, “the singer for Collective Soul“ and he said “did they make that song Runaway Train?“ and I said, “no you’re thinking of Soul Asylum” and he said “I like that song“ and I said “yeah me too“ and he said “whatever happened to Soul Asylum?“ and I said, “I don’t know…“
This is one of my most favorite songs. Collective Soul nailed it with this one. I now own all of their CDs. In my opinion sir, you've got great taste in music. Peace.
Wouldn't it be hilarious if after each show, they would run up behind fans waiting to meet them - and kick them in their butts? I just had to share that since it popped into my head and is making me laugh!

1 reason… they’re from Stockbridge Georgia and not Seattle Washington.
