- Holiday World's front gate coaster is a 1995 woodie from Custom Coasters International, flying through the woods of Indiana! It's a ride that never seems to get enough love due to constantly being overshadowed by its larger wooden coasters next door, but its still a great ride that deserves a lil love!

Remember - LONG before “Holiwood Nights”, LONG before Voyage, LONG before Legend.... The event was called “Stark Raven Mad”, and still drew over 700 enthusiasts!! This was back when the Raven only had one train as well. So, underrated....no. More.... overshadowed by now, but still a great ride!!!
And it won the GTA for best woodie FOUR years in a row.

Finally, someone who gives The Raven a lot of love~ One of CCI's best creations. I'd love to ride this one day. To be voted the best wooden coaster for several years in the past says something about it. Phenomenal ride~
When I rode Raven at Holiday World at Holiwood kNights this year when we hit the brake run the up stop wheels were still spinning. Raven is amazing

Honestly, i was more impressed with Raven and Legend instead of Voyage, but all are great wooden coasters!
The Raven was the very first roller coaster that I ever rode. I feel like everyone forgets about it given the Voyage and the Legend; however, it is a great ride and has an "alone in the woods" quality to it that allows for awesome night rides.

Rode it again yesterday. Crazy rough...bruised right arm to prove it! But what a rush.
I was actually at Holiday World yesterday, and boy was the Raven amazing! It was my first big roller coaster I have ever been on, and I rode it 7 times!! It was the best! I'm gonna ride the Legend in October, next time we go there.
It's nice to know Raven is still kicking ass a full quarter century after it opened in 1995. Montell Jordan's "This Is How We Do It" was the #1 song in the United States when it opened. It only had 1 train when it first opened, and a second train was added in 2005.
As a Baltimore Ravens fan, I smile at this coaster and it’s name!

Rode on this back in 2003 IN THE DARK! The ride had officially shut but my little niece was crying as she missed a go on the ride as it was getting dark and the park was closing😕
The guy running it told us quietly we could get one ride but IN THE DARK so no one would see us! That was one INTENSE ride! Wooo hooooo. BTW late at night the wheel bearings are HOT so you also get a FAST ride! First thing in the morning in the winter not so much, quite slow🤷🏼♂️ RAVEN ROCKS! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

My wife and I have rode it twice this year, my favorite coaster!!!
Also this thing is (no pun intended) a legend, I remember being a kid way back in the 90s Raven was always mentioned in EVERY coaster show, often it was the big OMG star. Had a coaster book and there were a few highlights, (ya know multiple pages with pictures and write up) Raven was one. When I went to Holiwood Nights a few years go people were telling me about Stark Raven Mad and it was one of the earlier big name enthusiast events. So yeah this thing may not stand up to newer badder woodies but its still good and has its place in history.
It's always been one of my favorites ever since first riding in 2015!
This coaster is cool but I totally agree about this being a night ride. It's really fun at night. Furthermore, they have the spooky sounds coming from the station that you here as you approach the ride and that really works better at night so it gets you excited. My daughter was afraid to ride The Raven because you can't really see it and at night it seems like the station is a haunted house. When I finally talked her into giving it a try she got off so excited about the ride. She kept saying "it's like we were flying through the forest AT NIGHT."
I got my first rides on it during HWN and on night 1 it was HAULING because of the slicked up track because of the rain, and oh my god!!! DEFINITELY agree it's under talked about. :)
Damn I wish I could get around to more parks
Holiday World is a pain for me to get to but was well worth the effort. I mostly went to ride The Voyage and Thunderbird (which are awesome) but I was super surprised how that "little" coaster delivered. Great park! Hope to make it back for the night rides someday.

Raven is definitely one of the most underrated coasters in America it may not be the best but it's definitely overlooked!

I have never been to holiday world (or any park in the US) but this ride looks great!
It's an amazing ride! My 3rd woddie after Voyage and Mystic Timbers. Past few times I went they had 1-Train ops on it and the line got super long.
I’ve only ridden this coaster once- front row zen ride just as the rain cleared. soooo I thought it felt more like a mini beast. I hope to get back soon tho

A cool angle you can get is the campground has paddle boats and you can get pretty close and get really cool views.
Holy Crap! Raven is insane! Second best in the park of you ask me. It's my #5 of all time. I L-O-V-E this coaster. 9.5 out of ten definitely. Maybe higher.
Raven is a great ride. I don't mean to be gp or anything but this ride has it's good years and bad years. Sometimes I ride this and it just HURTS! Especially back row. This is a ride I don't mind skipping when I go.
The Raven was always the first coaster I'd ride after entering the park.
Taylor, I’m from Indiana, and yes we have plenty of trees they make up about 45% of the space. 5% buildings and 50% corn fields!
I take it back, honestly Indiana is probably 95% fields

I haven't ridden it in 4 years which was the last time I've been to Holiday World, but I found it to be a pretty rough ride, but it was fairly intense though. I liked it.
Rode it again yesterday. Crazy rough but what a rush!
Great review. I loved it. Keep up the good work. I think a woman died on this ride because the lapbar wasn't set right. It's awful. R.I.P. It's probably a perfectly safe ride though.
Front row was awesome! That turn around over the water was the roughest part for me. As far as theming, I think it would be awesome if the put some sound effects at the top of the lift hill. Bird noises or even a 'Nevermore' callout in a creepy Poe inspired voice
Very underrated coaster!!!
You probably already knew this but if you rent a paddleboat or canoe at Lake Rudolph, you can get pretty close to the raven’s turnaround for some cool footage

@Ken Norcott Kings Island would disagree lol. I have been to all 3. Kennywood isnt close to KI or Holiday world for me. I would agree that HW is the best just because of Voyage

Sadly this ride was closed during my visit last month. It would've probably been my least favorite of the three wooden roller coasters they have, but it still would've probably been one of my favorite woodies overall. Oh well. All the more reason to go back.
I wish there would be a theme park like Holiday World here in Germany or the Netherlands. I love wooden coasters, but they are relatively rare here and a park with 3 legendary wooden coasters would be great.
Fully agree with you about the 2nd half of the ride. Honestly I'm more a fan of this than the stars of the park. Yes Voyage is a top 10 wood and Thunderbird is FUN, but this just is so reridable and forceful. Most of my HW trips I end up giving a good chunk of time just to marathon it. Also, coming from someone raised at KI, I have dubbed it "Mini Beast" for the way it weaves through the wilderness and away from the park...

PTC should use buzz bars on all of its trains. For rides that don't go upside down and don't have anything else like swinging going on, nothing more is necessary.

You should do another review for the legend at holiday world. I think that’s another overlooked coaster
The first drop has great standing airtime when you’re in the back car
Imagine if Holiday World got a GCI, then they would have rollercoasters from all 3 major wooden coaster manufacturers
(im not counting the Dinn Corporation, a lot of their rides are rough)
I got a concussion on roller coaster like this so I’m so happy I didn’t go on it when I went to holiday world

Fun ride! It was my least fav of the woodies there, but that's saying something as its a possible top 10 woodie for me. I did prefer Legend which surprised me because this gets such hype. Raven just didn't do quite as much. I'm sure in the 90s and even into the 2000s this thing was the baddest, but through no fault of its own its simply fallen down the list as newer better coasters have been made. It's happened to many. Was fun though, especially back seat, at night, the big drop in the middle....such air. And at Holiwood Nights, with ERT and it running soo late into the night, one helluva experience.
I guess this review was very ravenary since the review of legend was legendary

I have never been able to get used to the fact that HW has three woodies that even enthusiasts think are wild and rough. I don’t get how the GP deal with it.
We don't we pass out 😂. I like coasters but I wouldn't consider myself a pure adreline junkie. They are fun but I don't need to go out and ride the tallest. So I consider myself GP and this ride blew me away. I had no idea it would pack that much punch. Practically was in shock passed out. It was so fast I couldn't even process it.😂😂
Holiday World is 30 minutes from where I live. Raven was my first ever "Real" coaster. I actually think its better than the Legend.

The Raven is just too short. That 4th drop -> brake run portion of the ride is amazing, I wish it was longer.

As someone who has Holiday World has one of their home parks, to be honest I normally hear Legend to be the weakest/overshadowed wooden coaster in the park.
I mean you hear about Raven night rides a lot but what about Legend night rides?
Still Thanksgiving area is where everyone flocks to. (Poor 4th of July area. I wish they had room for a big coaster there!)

This is the only one I rode. Still waiting to go back for Legend, and Thunderbird. Not 100% Sure on Voyage yet. I'm afraid of big coasters.

@Tommy Walker1966 The feeling I don't like is when you have that stomach gravity feeling when your falling straight down. A long time ago when I was a kid I rode Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney World the feeling when you gi up and its hard to describe but ik since you said you've rode all those coasters you've felt what I'm talking about. But yeah That feeling is what I'm afraid of. Most people fear flying out of the ride no. My fear is just that gut feeling. How do you manage to bear through it?

@@AirtimeProductions I can't speak for Thunder Thrills, but I just thought of Mount Olympus off the top of my head. There are plenty of other parks with better woodies than Raven. SFGAD, SDC, Dollywood, CGA, Knotts, Valleyfair, WoF, and SWSA to name a few

the ride is pretty good. but summer of 2018 kind of messed me up. i got thrown out my seat (it wasn't that bad but im small so it kind of hurt, and i bumped heads with my cousin and it hurt really bad, i got elbowed by my cousin on accident. and when we got off, we have to take tylenol because our heads hurt so bad
and we also road it at night when this happened
I find Raven overrated. Just about everybody likes it more than me. I ride it once a day when I visit and that’s a wrap. But I love watching it while camping across the pond. I’ll take a paddle boat out there and try to get a campsite with the view!
The only park imo with a better wooden coaster collection is Kings Island.
and sadly, thanks to cedar fair's overall bs, that's the real truth of mostly all it's got. Definitely not the B&M line-up with stupid Orion.
You don't think of indiana of having alot of trees????? I guess other places must be insanely heavily wooded if that's the case.
I know southern Indiana has a lot of trees, but to the mass amount of people who have never been, when they think of Indiana, they think of flat land and cornfields.
