taxivid take it to a Toyota dealership and reference the warranty enhancement program. They did repair my problem. This is a chronic problem with the Prius. Be persistent, good luck!
Toyota failed to notify owners of the problem and the deadline. We should all also file a Complaint with the federal trade commission (FTC). This will probably get Toyota's attention faster.
Thanks a lot dude this worked for me as well. I read a few forums and had no clue what people were talking about and then came across this super easy to follow video and fixed it on the first try. You da man!
I parked on a level surface released the handbrake then started the car. Pumped the brake pedal 8 times without putting paper clip. Oh before also doing all this I removed the brake cap let some pressure went out. So after doing all these I drove the car for about 50 feet and realized all the abs brake and traction lights are gone! Don’t know how much these videos help. Thank you.
This is exactly what mine is doing! I was freaking out planning on taking it to the dealership in the morning and having to pay a s*** ton of money. So glad I found this. Thank you. Going to try this tomorrow
Yo Taj, Is it from left to right or right to left. also do you put the paperclip in the hole with the same clip or 2 different paperclips Thanks fellow Lane
Resetting it that way is only a temporary fix. It goes away after a good half hour and it’s random, so you could be going down a hill and have to slam on your brakes
Was about to give up after 10 times, use one paper clip, right to left, bottom 4th, top 5th, make sure you see the DIAG sign and it should work following the video. Thank you so much !!!
My lights just keep flashing after hitting the break 8 quick times and being in diag. When I hit the breaks 8 times, thr break light comes on and it beeps a few times but that's it
i just had this happen on my 12 prius v , all the same lights came on ( brake, abs, traction control, and the exclamation mark lights all came on, car lost its regen ability on braking - i checked the brake fluid and noticed it was low, so i brought it up to the full line with some dot 3, and pulled the positive cable on the 12v battery / let the car sit a while to be sure it would clear out the code -- after about 30 mins i re connected the battery cable, powerd the car up without putting foot on brake, ( the start button has a red light when u do it) and pumped the brakes a bunch of times , then put my foot on the brake and hit the start button -- everything went back to normal , all the lights were out. took the car for a drive and everything was fine. what ive learned is, there are alot of problems that can cause these lights to come on, so if this happens to you, its not always the 3000 abs brake actuator assembly. however these same lights all come on if it is the actuator , but like i said it could be a wheel sensor / abs sensor, fluid level sensor, and a whole lot of other little things that can make these lights all come on, so if it happens dont panic its most likly something simple like in my case ( needed fluid and reset computer) and everything was fine

Light came back on. Another method is to put the car on park, press the brake pedal all the way down for 20 seconds and lights will disappear, but it will come back again as well.
@@saganandroid4175 20,000 mi 4 months later still good... It should be noted that I do my breaks myself. My brakes system has been flushed multiple times... I'm big on replacing parts of caliber systems and not entire units if it need be... I noticed that some of the complete rebuilds out there on the market are shittier /actually worse or flat out broken... I've done great jobs on many vehicles for friends and family over the years. Probably do about five brake jobs a year so I'm not a professional but my friends usually come to me after the mechanic f*** something up on a job... All of this to say that there was no physical issue with my breaks at the time nor has there been since... A family of deer break checked me last night 😂 everything is working as it should thanks to this paper clip
There is warranty extension for this problem currently until 08/31/2021 for any mileage. After that day warranty applies to 150K or 10 yeas which comes first. In order to have the warranty one of the C1391 or 1251 kind of codes should be showing on the vehicle. It is not a recall. It has to show DTCs.
I have a 2014 Prius Plug-In that had the same lights come on and no regen braking. I purchased a Veepeak OBDCheck BLE+ Bluetooth 4.0 OBD II Scanner and scanned for error codes. It said my rear left speed sensor was bad. I since then replaced that wheel bearing which has a built in speed sensor and the issue has been resolved. Hopefully this helps others as I was confused as to what was causing the lights to come on like in this video.
What about the brakes feeling like they momentarily go out it you're braking while hitting a large bump? I'm sure I'm not the only one experiencing that.
I'm livid. It was on a recall but seemingly the recall expired before the problem showed itself in my car. Dealer was more than happy to want to charge me that $3000 to which I said "no". It's like having manual brakes which is fine by me but with out it working the MPG has come down. Turns out I'm a few months over and now 160K miles.
@@Learn2oo I ended up paying for it. I ran the car for about 18months with ABS light on as the brakes acted like I had manual brakes on my old VW bug. But then one day, I was stopped and what then came out of the Prius was a high pitched, very loud - beep-beep-beep-beep - constant and very rapid. When you get that signal - get off the road. That is a complete brake failure and you'll find your pedal almost impossible to push and you'll get very little response. Increase your braking distances by FIVE (I kid you not) and drive as slow as you can. Get out of traffic. My local Firestone did it for about $1550. Also, look up "Home Town Hybrids" in your area and see if they can help. I'll be calling them when I need help with the battery.
@@starhopper457 Thanks for the response, Ill definitely be sure to take it seriously if I ever hear that beep. But hopefully Elon Musk will feel like replying to a tweet about Toyota wanting 3k for a software update to make the brakes work before then
@@Learn2oo Well, when the brakes fail, the ABS actually needs to be replaced and it isn't a trivial job. Again, look up Home Town Hybrids near you if it gets worse or you get to a point where you just want it repaired.
I’ve called into the service center and gave them my vn# and my 2010 Toyota Prius is covered until nov 30th of 2019 for the abs brake assembly. You will have to get it checked out and if they find a problem then they will fix it. If they don’t find a problem then they will charge you for checking it out.
Thanks a million man! Had the same lights and issues you did. My fluid was low so I went to Walmart and got some topped it off! Also went ahead and filled a complaint.
ditto here....203K miles...been driving it like this for a few months now. have to change this myself. im not dropping the price of a used car on getting someone to fix it.
thank you! it works perfectly with my 08 Prius after brake fluid flushing and new rotors and brakes. in addition, during trying to locate the pins i touched the wrong ports i think, and i heard a beep; probably this is why the red triangle and check engine light stays on after all brake warning light turned of. i just decided to go ahead and clear the red triangle and check engine light with i OBD BlueDriver scan tool. Again, thank you for sharing your struggling experience with Prius!!🙏👍
Thank you, It worked for a little bit but the light came back on. I replaced the Sensor also which I taught that was the problem code C0205 and then I did the reset but the lights came back on after being off for about two miles. The Actuator seems to be working? no buzz or any clicking sounds on it.
Interesting hack my friend, now i know i dont have to buy a new actuator. . .. . .kindly get a clear video on how you slip the paper clip into the obd2 slot. . . . .
Thank you for this vid. Got the regenerative braking working again. I was getting 12 mpg if you can believe it. With zero mil codes. Just abs brake and traction control lights
@@nnma3736 No just call and visit your dealership. Bring that printout from government website NHTSA, they have to fix it if the have the parts in stock. Make sure visit the dealer before August if you have 2011-2015 Prius. They have to replace it even you do not have any engine code. It matters of which version/production number on the defective parts. Good part has sticker with letters go around the cylinder, not parallel to the axis
@@rondhole I just purchased a 2011 base prius but I mean if it's something they can fix as a recall why not purchased with 142,000 miles but it runs really good I'll have to check it out. . Thanks for the reply bro...
@@nnma3736 it's not recalls. It's a champaign of costumer satisfaction. You need to ask to get it fixed. Just like melting dashboard few years ago. I got full dashboard replacement on my Siena 2004 and Lexus ES 2005 even they are 13 y old.
I hace a 2011 Toyota Prius, apparently the brake booster extended warranty expedited on 08/31/21. What upsets me is I had taken my car in to Tustin Toyota on June 2020 to do a different recall but the did nothing about the brake booster or said nothing. I’m here at the dealer and they said they only fix them when they go bad. Well now mines bad and I’m effed. This has been one of the must frustrating things I’ve ever gone through with a car. Feels like I’m driving a BMW.
I have a Prius 2015 and the same thing is happening to mine except my back wheel is liquid brake fluid and I have to keep refilling it every time. Went to a Toyota dealer and want to charged me 4k to fix it. 😔
I found out today that my rear wheel bearings were causing my brake, abs and traction control lights to go off! The speed sensor is having trouble reading the speed of the tire. Dealer want 1100 dol. to repair!! I am just going to order the wheel bearings and install myself..ugh. But they took care of my air bag recall.
Under Broken Skies damn, sorry it wasn’t an easy fix in your favor. The big giveaway besides the lights was the actuator cycling every five seconds. You can hear it in the video. If you hear that I’d get another diagnostic done. My code was C1391.
I was having this exact issue on my 2010 prius at around 165k miles. Fortunately for me the Toyota dealership told me it is a recall problem and they fixed it for free. I saved the diagnosis charge and the 2,000 cost to repair the problem.
Luis we need more info! How is it you got yours fixed while everyone else got boned? Maybe if you tell us all the details more of us can replicate your success.
@@saganandroid4175 I was fortunate that my car had the brake issue before the recall expire date. I had no idea that Toyota was fixing such brake issue for free before such date. The dealership told me I was lucky that Toyota was paying the 2k for the brake issue. I don't know If Toyota extended the expire date though. My car is a 2010 prius and had 160k miles at the time. Like 2 or 3years ago.
@Luis Gomez I am confused, so you did the recall thing 3 years ago or 10 months ago. 3 years ago, then yes that was before the deadline, but 10 months ago, I think it is impossible they would fix it for free.
@@stevek2121 I did the recall 1 month before it expired. Geez, I think this happened like 3 years ago. It is called the brake booster recall or brake booster actuator recall. It could be the case that Toyota might extend the expired date. It is best to call a Toyota dealership for up to date information.
That is exactly what happened to us. Brought the car with no apparent issues into the dealer for an oil change and the update. It was returned to us with all of the above lights on and no regenerative braking, just like the OP.
Hi Savann, I also had this issue last night while driving My Prius 2012 all abs lights were on.. I did your break paddles treatment to my vehicle last night but I didn't insert paper clip to ODB port.. It was not corrected while I was doing paddling .. today morning I noticed all lights reset.. and regenerative break also works fine.. Thanks a lot sir..
Hi, checking if the brake noises got extremely frequent and then failed in one shot, My 2011 Prius would infrequently make whirring, clicking noises previously, but more of recently, it has started doing very frequently and is very noisy, the clicking seems to be worrying and keeps on going for 30 sec, this is also occurring while driving as well now.

Has anyone attempted to get this CSP service complete without any system warning indicators/lights as listed in the bulletin? There's no doubt that our Prius is on it's way to throwing some indicator lights, but it's not there yet. 10 years is up in November, so the clock is ticking, meanwhile the car is barely being driven due to the pandemic.
A fix that worked for me was disconnect negative battery terminal..wait 2 or 3 min. Reconnect, then pull the 7.5 amp fuse for ABS in engine compartment fuse block, put it back..then pull the 20 amp ABS fuse in same fuse box,put it back ( if fuses blown replace if not reuse). Start car. Lights gone, drives fine. Do this in the order described. May save you big bucks in case you paper clip the wrong pins and burn up a costly computer. I did not use the paper clip jumper at all. This worked for me but I am no mechanic. Just did not want to spend the 4500 dollars a actual mechanic stated that my car needed ( well not my car, my daughters car)
This happened to me a month ago, now it's past the date of which Toyota offered to pay for the repair. Very upsetting! Imposing an arbitrary end-date on fixing faulty and expensive parts is terrible and greedy.
@Sohail Alam I found a temporary solution with 2010 6 press the breaking pedal all the way down continuously for 20 seconds, and the light will go off. Sometimes, it will come back again after 15 minutes and sometimes comes back in days. I do that all the time when I am driving.
I have the same issue with my 2012 Prius. I've argued back and forth with a local dealer (south FL) as well as Toyota Corp. and nothing has been resolved. I've also filed a complaint with NHTSA. A friend of mine who used to be a service advisor at Toyota told me that Toyota is very well aware of the issue and that he has personally seen his dealership fix this issue for free for preferred customers. I guess I don't fall into that category!! This is my third Prius and I have been a loyal customer to Toyota for the past 13 years. I sold my last prius (2008 model) after Toyota gave me the same run around for failing hybrid battery at 100k miles...for which the dealer tried to charge me $4500. I had the hybrid battery issue resolved for $1500 with a one year warranty from an independent company. At this point I decided to buy the next gen Prius with the hope of buying a better car and now here we are yet again. After this I'm not sure I'll stay with a Toyota. Thanks for your video btw and good luck to all.
villam10 honestly, I don’t think I’d buy another Prius. I’d personally stay with Toyota, not hybrid. The issue we are talking about is effing profound. I seriously emailed Toyota up to twice a week about the issue. They’re response was no assistance will be given. I still emailed to the end when they FINALLY gave the 2010 an enhanced warranty. Then I emailed the document showing I was right after all. Good luck to you!
First of all thank you so much for uploading this video …it has literally saved me thousands of dollars. This has happened three times now and I have reset it every time so I was wondering if you could tell me why it keeps happening and what I need to do differently.
Glad it helped, not the best video - but it’s helped some people. From what I know is the brake booster is bad and probably needs to be replaced. Best of luck!
@@savannahpirates407thanks much for this vid. I'm gonna try this fix later today. but it seems like it's a very temporary fix that has to be repeated a lot. have you ever confirmed your hypothesis that it's the break booster?
Using the paper clip trick just gets rid of dash warning lights and regen brakes. But it’s not “actually” fixing it, correct? The actuator is still failing right? My car is is starting to act weird. Brakes are touchy, and actuator is constantly cycling. But I don’t have any dash lights.........yet. I feel like it’s coming soon though.
XTheJenovaProjectX No, it’s not a fix. It does reset for a little while tho. I hope for the best with your car. Check if there are any warranty enhancements for your car. Good luck!
I have a 2010 Prius and these 3 lights came on one week ago while driving. Toyota dealership confirmed it was brake booster malfunctioning and I found the Customer Support Program ZJB, however the dealership told me coverage for my VIN expired November 30, 2019. Dealership also told me it was not safe to drive. If it is not safe to drive, why is this NOT A SAFETY RECALL Toyota? I am waiting to speak with Toyota North America customer service today. $2,800 to repair. I filed a complaint with NHTSA.
Having the same problem. Wife almost crashed into someone on the freeway, such a scary experience for her. Toyota - please address the problem before someone is killed.
I ordered a fancy scan tool this morning... Because mine popped this last night on my way home from work... I was surprised to find it threw no code on my scan tool that cost me $250 back when I bought the car that I've used for everything to date... There was nothing seemingly wrong with the vehicle operation what so ever.

Hi I have the same problem. just wanted to know, did the problem return after you perform this procedures since then?
What was your diagnosis? My 2011 has the same lights.

Light came back on. Another method is to put the car on park, press the brake pedal all the way down for 20 seconds and lights will disappear, but it will come back again as well.
Had it happen last night... No apparent break issues... Slowly drove home... If the lights return or anything else changes I will update this post.
How is your Prius?
Really? How do I go about it?
@@wturner777 bro did you ever find out...mine has 146k miles
i have 139k and i have that code C 1391 and the abs/brake and skid light is on. 2014 prius. will i still be eligible?
Mine as well
I swear omg and I’m in nyc
Same here
My 2014 Prius too
Yep, mine too
Total bullshit.
The repairs for this vehicle are outrageous.
I personally would never purchase another Prius.
I find myself in this boat today! How do we organize? Are we not a class of people who has been wronged?
I’ve called into the service center and gave them my vn# and my 2010 Toyota Prius is covered until nov 30th of 2019 for the abs brake assembly. thank you! it works perfectly with my 08 Prius after brake fluid flushing and new rotors and brakes. in addition, during trying to locate the pins i touched the wrong ports i think, and i heard a beep; probably this is why the red triangle and check engine light stays on after all brake warning light turned of. i just decided to go ahead and clear the red triangle and check engine light with i OBD BlueDriver scan tool. Thank you, It worked for a little bit but the light came back on. I replaced the Sensor also which I taught that was the problem code C0205 and then I did the reset but the lights came back on after being off for about two miles.
I just got same issue, did try same.method I guess it didn't work on mine. Toyota dealer was saying 3000$ cost to replace actuator which I feel bs.
Doesn't' work. Miles my vary but after you reset, i drove the car for about 20 miles and the lights came back on on the dashboard.
Savannahpirates I didn’t hear it. But if it happens with the time frame of this extension I will most definitely take it back.

Like 2 or 3years ago.
@Luis Gomez I am confused, so you did the recall thing 3 years ago or 10 months ago. 3 years ago, then yes that was before the deadline, but 10 months ago, I think it is impossible they would fix it for free.

@@savannahpirates407thanks much for this vid. I'm gonna try this fix later today. but it seems like it's a very temporary fix that has to be repeated a lot. have you ever confirmed your hypothesis that it's the break booster?

Nervous about my issue, the buzzing sound goes off every minute when car is on. Is there gonna be any other options especially when there was a recall before? Would this fix actually take that sound away every minute. I dont hv any abs lights come on as of yet too
I had all this lights on my dashboard and the morning I was taken it to service all the codes were cleared? Weird. The Toyota representative told me the codes are store in the computer of the car and they will be able to see if any codes come on and fix it. Is this true, I heard your lights have to be on in order to qualify for the recall.
My Prius 2012 also get this problem. All lighting related to break on included ABS. I send it to Toyota Service at Malaysia, they say the spare part it is about RM 13,000 (USD 3290.00). Just to ask, what mean of this sentence "Paper clip bent into a U shape- top #4 and bottom #5". I mean the location to fix the paper clip. Hope I can try to solve my Prius problem. Thank you dear Savannahpirates.

This is a serious and expensive problem!
This does actually work, thanks for sharing! Could you post a link when you have the time where to register the complaint. Also, if I may add that you have to press on the brake pump really quickly, about 8 time or more within 5 seconds. Did this ever happen to you again, just wondering if the problem persisted? Thanks again for the video!
Lurker Lurk the reset is short lived. I purchased the car used, the problem started about 4 months after purchase.
The history shows the actuator assembly being changed out under recall. Now, same crap!
Toyota has finally issued a Customer Support Program "ZJB" to cover the Prius 2010 Brake Booster and Booster Pump Assemblies. Issued August 9, 2018. The warranty is good until November 30, 2019, regardless of mileage, or 10 years/150,000 miles. They will pay for the $3,000 repair.
T IS FREE from Toyota Dealer for Unlimited Miles until 31 August 2021. AFter that it is 10 years /150k miles policy. It is NOT RECALL, so Owner has to actively contact Dealer. VOLUNTARY COSTUMER SATISFACTIONS PROGRAM. static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10164922-9999.pdf
@@Yama4Yama does this still stands?
@@tftinternet6409 click on the link posted by @rondhole. It depends on the year of your Prius.
What did he do with the paper clip? I can't see it in the video.
Help please, my 2010 Prius just did the same thing!
Much Sunshine have it fixed, there was a recall!
I have a 09 Prius with 93000. In 2018 after buying it used the brake accuator went out. Luckily I just made the recall and got it replaced. No almost three years later, lights on the dash are on, brake fluid is full. Toyota service just told me $2500 repair to replace brake accuator. I'm like WTH?! After telling the Service rep of its history, they are like ok wait. Let me talk to the Service manager. Now waiting patiently for Toyota to call me back. Defected parts? We'll see.
Same problem with the same fix for my 2013 prius 3
Y’all!! This worked ❤
Received an official voluntary recall letter in the mail this week for my 2011.
Hi i am having the same issue with my 2011 prius could you please send me more info about this recall please......
It looks like there was a recall on this issue "FEB 12, 2014 ; Toyota will apply an update to skid control ECU software on cars in this recall to fix an “electronic circuit condition” that could cause the vehicles stability control, anti-lock braking systems and traction control function to shut down intermittently, Toyota said. However, in the event of such a failure the standard brakes will still work, according to the company." These are the lights that come on Skid control, Anti-Lock, Brake.
Carol Farkas with 3 minute $69 scan the dealership says code c1391 brake booster/actuator/master cylinder. The dealership told me it’s a costly problem that Toyota Corp is well aware of - disappointing 🤨
Thank you its working
Can't see the paper clip thing
I already reset and lights gone
And came back again
Plz what I should do now?
I have had the same exact issue with the same lights on, what is the permanent solution?
Drew Carlson replace the brake booster assembly. I have a 2010 and it was covered by a warranty enhancement.
i have the same problem.did you solve the problem with the pin trick or you change the abs unit?please let me know!thanks!
georgeallou The paperclip trick is a very temporary fix. They (Toyota) wound up covering it as an extended type warranty. This is a major issue for the Prius! Good luck.
@@savannahpirates407 thank you very much!they ask from me 2500euro to fix it.i think that i will tear appart the car and sell it for spear parts!thanks!
How long does this short term fix last? Can I just keep resetting it?
Hal Roland , unfortunately not Long. Make sure to submit your register your complaint nhtsa.gov
