    • @Aslash304
      @Aslash304  วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I would use the preconditioning function on your key. Double tap it to start the process while you are still plugged in, that way you get your preconditioning from the wall, and not the battery, leaning your cabin warm, and your battery charged to your desired limit when you head out. Hope this helps!

    Thank you so much for your channel. I have learned so much. I love the Prologue (CV joint/axle clicking annoying but a topic for another day - I saw your latest video) but having OCD and owning an EV can be challenging, so can I ask...I live in Ohio and Monday - Weds will be very cold . I have a Grizzle-E Mini that I can adjust current on app (setting that up is another story also) so would it be better to trickle charge at 7 amps up to 70 percent (what you said you charge to?) and have the internal resistance of battery create heat to help the health of the battery (I am making this up) or just charge to 70 percent and forget about it? Not going to be using the car during the cold days just trying to keep the battery healthy. Watching Engineering explained How to Ruin Your Electric Car's battery did not mention whether to trickle charge in cold. If I do charge to 70 percent with 32 amps, should I keep it plugged in to keep it charged at 70 percent or does letting the battery level go down on its own hurt anything? My OCD makes me nervous about keeping the charger plugged into the car which I realize is a OCD worry, correct? Thanks

    • @Aslash304
      @Aslash304  14 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      No issue to leave it plugged in. If it’s at rest and charged to 70%, it will be perfectly okay. Fast Charging needs above freezing temps, AC charging should be okay. If you won’t be driving, you’ve got nothing to worry about at all.

    Ive been on the fence on getting one for about a week. I currently have a 2020 clarity with about 90k miles on it. I still have about 4 years left on the loan. My local honda can get me into a prologue touring fwd for 10 bucks more a month then i pay on the clarity on a 3 year 45k lease. I know it wouldn't be a problem most of the time being around home. I would only have level 1 charging at home but it shouldn't be a problem because I work from home and only run into a bigger city of about 100k a couple times a week which would be 30 to 40 miles round trip. My main hangup is i make about 4 trips a year to IL which is about 900 miles one way. More than half the drive the speed limit is 75-80. I just feel like this thing is going to absolutely get destroyed on range or i am going to have to be going significantly under the speed limit and put myself in a dangerous situation with how people drive in this part of the country. I did some route planning research and came up with adding about 4 hours of time round trip for charges vs how long it takes figuring stops in my clarity. Also all the stops would either be at EV Go 350kw chargers or 250kw or 325kw Tesla chargers. I roughly figured it also costing about double what my clarity uses in gas.
    Another concern is that around my area in the 100k city there is only 1 level 3 charger and i dont think its even 100kw and its at a dealership and is only available during their business hours. So thats a bit of a concern if something happened that i suddenly couldnt charge at home.
    I just know my kids are going to be annoyed with the sitting around and adding extra time to a already long trip, because i asked them about it. I think its a great deal and a lot of car for the money, i am just thinking I'm going to need a backup plan for the long trips. So i was thinking maybe if i could find a basic cheap car that is good on gas and is mechanical sound, i could get that too and really only use it for long trips. However that just adds cost too of either buying out of pocket or getting a cheap loan on something. I was also suggested by someone i could look at renting a car for a few days when I make long trips, however then i kind of feel like its pointless to get this if its inconvenient to use for somethings.
    I'd love honest feedback, thoughts, ideas, what anyone else would do in this scenario.
    Love the content as well! I wish more people made content on the fwd prologues.

    • @Aslash304
      @Aslash304  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have a video on this channel proving that the prologue is 1 hour of charging for every 400 miles. Plan a lunch stop for 30 minutes, plan a dinner stop for 30 minutes, and once an hour for 7-10 minutes. And if you absolutely can’t be inconvenienced with the extra time, rent a gas car for the long trips. But before you do, take one EV road trip. Honda Offers EVgo credits with the car. That makes the road trips free. If your goal is to think of as many reasons as you can to not do it, you won’t do it. Also, I have driven 65Mph on I95, I70, I80, I84, I90, 295, 495, etc. if it’s really bad, follow traffic flow. As soon as it lets up, slow back down. Happy to answer any additional questions. Good luck with your decision making process.

    • @andyr123861
      @andyr123861 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @Aslash304 Thanks for the info and feedback. I am aware of the credits and that's the option I would take however I wouldn't be able to make it work to charge at one every time. I would be taking I44 to OKC, then I35 to Des Moines via Kansas City and then basically I80 toward IL. If I left my house with a full charge I could hit a 350kw EVGO by OKC on that full charge from my house most likely. However the next EVGO charger anywhere close to that route is when you get to KC which is 325 miles between chargers. There are compatible super chargers between there though. Then the next EVGO isn't until East of Des Moines which is 275 miles from the KC one. So yes I'd be able to do about half the charging in theory for free with the credits. I am fine with taking a little extra time, I guess the hard part is going to be convincing everyone else including my wife and kids that have to be along for the ride 😂. I told my wife it would be more of a adventure and she didn't seem very amused by that lol.

    Regarding the charging to 100...
    I charge my Nissan leaf to 90-95 when I'm at work, knowing that the trip back places me to 80% or less...
    However: even 100% only charges 93-95% of my battery. The leaf stops charging at this point and reports 100% as part of its battery management.
    More often than not I charge to 96% when road tripping (be sure this is where the curve drops from 27kw to about 10kw) and my range isn't much (200miles).
    But the battery is technically never at 100% - I doubt any modern EV ever charges the battery fully.

    • @Aslash304

    A simple solution is to buy a Tesla... it does all of the work you did automatically. On my latest trip my Tesla Model Y directed me to a new charging location in Halifax NC (on I95) which had 60 Tesla type 3 and 4 stalls. It was busy but there were plenty open stalls. The Tesla trip planner in its cars tell you how many stalls are available before you arrive. There were multiple non-Tesla cars charging at this location. Starting later this year, 2025, when the Ford, GM, Rivian and Volvo new production start getting a NACS plug, most of their issues will be solved automatic. The basic EV problem is that existing auto companies are assemblers of parts produced by subcontractors, they have no concept of a "system". Tesla is a systems company and they produce the vast quantity of the parts they assemble into their cars. The Tesla system includes the charging infrastructure, the automatic software updating, the route planning software and the financial transaction processing necessary to pay for your charging. It is now delivering the software to park and retrieve your car and drive you to your destination.

    25:07 Thermal run away? Like it gets too hot? Would charging to 100% on let's say level 1, 110v also be bad? I do remember you said it hurts to just sit at 100%.
    A 1 way trip to work for me is 120 miles, on a base 40 KWh leaf, with 10% degradation, if I leave at 95%, I can arrive at 3%. Seems quite close. Probably the 66 KWh Chevy Bolt would do much better since I won't have to go way so low, and high in the %. To add to that, I'd be going 55 MPH with the AC off, so I can't even really slow down much to help. Charging in the middle works though.

    I really wish they’d make a regulation stating ALL electric charging stations and ALL electric vehicles must use the same charger regardless of make/model/brand. It’s so frustrating to me that there’s different chargers and different adapters.
    They want EVs to become mainstream yet they won’t regulate them like they do gasoline cars. I can pull into any gas station and fill my car up without worrying if I need an adapter or not lol.

      This is a complex answer for Mach E owners. Standard range batteries in the Mach E feature lithium iron phosphate, which is totally safe to charge to 100%. So my question for you is: what trim of the Mach E do you have? It’s a very important difference. If you have a long range or a GT, then, yes, charging to 100% is definitely not recommended. But if you have a standard range, you’re okay to do so.
