Brooo didn't expect to see you here!! Ive been watching your content since getting into this, so sick to see the process of you getting tricks at street spots. I'm over here just trying to survive landing fakie 😅 loving the process though!!
Bro I'm SO GLAD your videos exist! I'm in the same boat as you. 30 (ish) and always thought it looked fun but never actually tried. My first pair of skates Aeon 80s are coming in the mail next week! Your videos have me STOKED
Wow you did awesome. Really impressive growth and you look much more natural than me at jumping. I've started skating a few months ago at 37, mostly on flat ground, I wanted to get more proficient at actually skating before I went to the park. After rolling up and down the quarter forwards and backwards, I hit up a miniramp and tried to stay at the bottom and pump my way to the top before I try drop in. That ramp really broke me, and just pumping forwards and backwards was really hard work and requires a huge amount of concentration. It wasn't as smooth transition as the one in your video, even though it was a 3.5ft ramp. After getting to the point where I could touch my wheels on the coping I ended up falling straight down on my tailbone and whipping my neck. My advice is to stop before you get really tired! It required a lot more work than I expected, I assumed it was just rolling up and down but I was sore EVERYWHERE for days afterwards, not just from falling but every muscle. I definitely couldn't have done it consecutive days like you did, even being reasonably fit. Keep it up
yeah my sessions were not too long because I realized how exhausting it was on my body, I cycled 150 miles a week all summer for cardio and even still my heart rate averages like 168 while rollerblading lol ( I have a polar heart rate monitor strap and garmin watch I use to record everything) It really surprised me how intense learning how to do stuff is. I was reasonably comfortable while just riding around and jumping but like you said, once I got to the skatepark it took so much concentration and balance to not fall every single time I got near a ramp... super humbling experience. While I really want to learn how to skate ramps better I think I'm gonna wait until it warmer and I'm more motivated to slam into the ground over and over again lol right now if you've seen my latest videos Ive been really addicted to learning grinds, I've got the frontside grind down pretty okay on my metal rail but I am still struggling to commit to soul plate tricks. I've taken some massive slams as well and somehow haven't gotten injured? I carry a ton of muscle now so I think that contributes to it, because I honestly use to get injured more as a kid skateboarding and taking slams. I was just like 40lbs less muscle and out of shape completely lol I am 31 now but I'm in some of the best shape of my life so I'm trying to take advantage of it before its too late. Mountain biking is another one of my passions that I plan to step up alot this year
I got my pads on for a reason!!! I try to remind myself I'm not doing this to "be safe" but at least I'm minimizing the damage. I haven't done it since though haha I need to get back to learning how to skate ramps, Ive been obsessed with grinding
Nice. Yeah, a couple tricks names come from Japanese. Makio (Ma-key-oh) is named after a skater who was first known to do them, Makio Miyazaki (宮崎眞希夫). Mizu (Me-zoo) comes from the Japanese word for water, 水(みず). Happy learning.
As someone who skated when I was 15 ish then stopped and picked it up again around 25 ish then stopped and again at 33 picked it up. I SALUTE YOU MY FRIEND. Jumping on Prails and going slow into grinds will MESS YOU UP lol. This vid had alot of great info and tips for those looking to start out. P RAILS ARE DEATH and can be the lower they are/the slow you try to do a trick lol. I learned the hard way trying to stall grind to get a feel for tricks before actually committing to a trick lol. Keep "grinding" man and enjoy it the blade community can be one of the best out there!!!!! 11/10 supportive as HECK.
Ayyy I appreciate this a ton!!! I'm getting super addicted to blading so it's cool seeing the community show so much support. I've definitely taken a few hard falls lol I even fell directly on my metal p rail the other day and that was not very pleasant lmao now if only I could commit to jumping onto a soul grind
@@inlineonline RIGHT lol falling on the rail is always a killer or when you smack your shin on something lol. Maybe try a mizou its like a soul grind except your left foot would go behind you kinda like a L shape if that makes sense lol.
Late starter here too. Really impressive amount of progress for just 7 days of work man! Just keep at it. Some grinds come more naturally than others. I've been trying to get Royales down for months and still can't figure them out.
Yeah I may have rushed the progress a little bit for the video, been going back to basics and focusing on fundamentals off camera. Really getting comfortable with frontside grinds though! Since I've moved onto new skates that fit me better it's really helped me overall. Just wish it was 35 degrees everyday or raining/snowing lol can't wait for spring
Is there a park where most of the bladers go? I'd love to actually meet some local bladers, all my friends who bladed when we were young unfortunately don't anymore
As an older guy who is just learning aggressive skating, I also went with the Aeon 60s too because of how stable and they are and the really thick shock absorber that is easier my knees. Nice job!
Got a new rail recently that slides way better too, it's scarier but feels great. This PVC pipe I used was sitting in my garage for years and it's slides soooo slow compared to my metal rail, really glad I upgraded I might buy a metal pipe to replace the PVC on my prail too
metal slides great but does get slow eventually, keep your weight above the rail, keep a nice bit of speed & you will be blasting topsouls with the best of them soon enough! cant wait to see more! @@inlineonline

Great stuff man! When riding fakie (backwards) put one of your feet in front of the other. Also, turn your head to the side where your lead foot is so you can see where you're going.
I'm gonna spend multiple sessions working on riding backwards when my new big wheel skates come in, right now I'm on the 5th element in anti rocker and it's sooo rough lol I need more practice on some urban skates. That staggered foot position is something I need to make a habit now instead of later lol
Man this was incredibly fun to watch! Super Awesome video! I wanna give advice but all I'll say is just keep having fun with the learning process!! 🤟🏾🤟🏾🤟🏾
@inlineonline for real! I've skateboard for over 20 years and always wanted to try blading but never invested till a few weeks ago. I also mountain bike! Pretty much anything with wheels lol

I’m so glad I came across your channel. This video is brilliant, I can’t believe how brave you are. I started back in December but decided I prefer quad skates to inlines as I’ve always used quads at rinks. I tried inlines at the park but didn’t feel confident at all. I’ve only dropped in once holding onto a friend’s arm while he dropped in with me. I did it the first time, fell on my ass the 2nd and managed to stay upright the 3rd time. I want to do it on my own but it’s scary.
Thats awesome!!! Ive seen some people rip it up on quad skates, doing all types of crazy grinds and flat ground spins. Looks like so much fun, very flowly. I need to spend more time at the rink to be honest, just to become a better skater. Glad you liked the video though!!! and honestly its been 2 months and I haven't dropped back in on that ramp, I've done a bunch of much smaller ones but dropping in is still so scary lol its all about commitment though. WE just have remember that we already did it!! We CAN do it again just have to push the fear back. Now I think I only fall when I let the fear get to me, but when I tell myself "if you fall you will be fine" then I can do it easyyyy. As long as you have pads you'll be fine!
@@inlineonline I’m scared of falling but when I have fell over I’ve been fine because I wear all the protective gear. I know what you mean about commitment, I think if you chicken out half way through then that’s what’s going to get you in trouble.
I've done it on a skateboard! And I was in full pads so I figured I'm here, I'm making the video, let's just go for it 😅 barely made it out alive but honestly the camera is pretty motivating and it's why I film alot of my hobbies. It's fun to watch back and motivating in the moment
From a beginner to another, turning is the best method to break, just do a 180. Most advanced guys to that. I don't know how much time you had but on the first day maybe more basic maneuvers. Rolling fast, turning, 180, jumping. For the grinds more stalls. H block grinds are advanced, more makios and souls. You did it with the frontside at least. Outside of that, more speed. Even if your technique is not on point you'll slide far and won't have to worry about balance because you spend less time on the obstacle. Far more speed and height actually helps, less bending required.
First thing to learn after just rolling forward is balancing on one foot. Everything you do uses that skill and it's hard to learn anything without having decent balance on one foot.
As I started this video I saw we had a lot of similarities: used to skateboard, now trying to pick up inline for the first time in our thirties... But it got weird when I realized i was at that same skatepark a few days ago trying to learn soul grinds! =O I grew up in Colorado but I'm in RI now and yeah, the skateparks here are... Not great. Have you found any good ones?
The good ones are all near providence it seems, like the neutaconkanut skatepark just got a massive new addition and it looks sick... But someone just got shot at the entrance of that park lmao so many not the best place to go. Tiverton skatepark is super well made but it's missing some basics like a basic rail and ledge lol Barrington and Newport are building new skateparks, the one in Newport is going to be massive. I've never been scared of a skatepark but being on blades I feel a little bit more vulnerable. Would be a nightmare to fight on blades 😭😭
an important concept that doesnt get explained enough is the nomenclature of grinds, and how you come off them. technically all of the frontsides you did ended in the "farside" position which is where you jump away from the side you jumped on from. bladers generally prefer the look of landing back on the same side you jumped on from, just so you know what most people consider to be "correct" :). watch some of the jumbo tutorial+ videos for some really in depth better explanations on concepts like these that can help you get better even faster. love the content and hope you keep it up with inlining man.
also makio grinds are the grandfather grind. learn the makio before everything else because makio grinds are a requirement to learning any other soul style grinds since you do half of a makio everytime you use your soulfoot.
ill check out those tutorials for sure!! Ive been able to jump back on the correctly side with my freestyle frames but for some reason with these roces street frames I feel so unstable and I tilt forward so much. With the kizer x freestyle frames I felt much deeper in the frontside and was able to push off and jump back on the same side a few time. And you're right I need to focus on the makio, I can step on a makio and grind it very easily but I still can't jump on them while moving. Stalling is fine though. Learning to jump on the makio while moving is probably my missing piece! I appreciate all the advice it means alot. I also have a pair for big wheel skates coming in just to get more time skating around, the anti rocker setup is sooo slow and harsh on my local pavement. Even my skateparks are rough lol if you check out my more recent videos I've made some good progress! I ride roces now as well
I've got a question for pretty much ANY skater... WHERE can you find protective gear that fits?! I'm a LITTLE heavier, not fat, but both the Large and XL sizes I've tried don't fit. Is there a good brand out there for sizing? (I'm 5' 6", 200lb at the moment, stocky w/ muscle and a little chub. lol. It's my dad years kickin' in.)
I use downhill mountain bike pads from Fox, search "Fox d3O pro pads" and you'll find it. I'm 220lbs and 6 foot even and they fit me great in a large. A bit tight the first time I put them on but they loosened up and fit perfectly now
Not true about skating backward, just point toe inward and push left and right. When skating forward you would like to point toe outward and do the same, never try to push backward/forward. You would like to lean towards the direction you are going. When going backwards, bend your knees and lean with your butt towards the direction like you going to take a seat. I go aggressive when I was 34 now I’m 35, it takes time to pick up but it’s fun. With own progress/schedule in self mind and pushing through challenges, it certainly works better. Don’t give up.👍🏻
I'm getting some big wheel skates to spend more time working on that!! I ended up returning the aeons and now I only have anti rocker/freestyle frames which are not super pleasant to skate around with lol even my driveway is a bit too rough for the small wheels
firstly thank youu!!! I went out every single day so I think progress tends to amplify when you go back to back to back I did spend time as a young kid going to rental skate rinks with my summer camp. So I pretty much already knew how to roll, my whole first day was really just learning how to stop and I kept working on stopping every single day!! I noticed that having confidence to stop is such a big deal, once you get that down you'll feel so much better and everything else comes natural, you got thisss!! I know it can be really boring to spend a whole hour just practicing how to stop but once you know you know!
@@leowindecker8597 I would LOVE to if I knew anyone who actually played roller hockey, we have a public roller hockey rink in my town that used to be really popular but I never see anyone playing anymore, maybe I feel to search some local groups

an important concept that doesnt get explained enough is the nomenclature of grinds, and how you come off them. technically all of the frontsides you did ended in the "farside" position which is where you jump away from the side you jumped on from. bladers generally prefer the look of landing back on the same side you jumped on from, just so you know what most people consider to be "correct" :). watch some of the jumbo tutorial+ videos for some really in depth better explanations on concepts like these that can help you get better even faster. love the content and hope you keep it up with inlining man.
also makio grinds are the grandfather grind. learn the makio before everything else because makio grinds are a requirement to learning any other soul style grinds since you do half of a makio everytime you use your soulfoot.
ill check out those tutorials for sure!!
Even my skateparks are rough lol
if you check out my more recent videos I've made some good progress! I ride roces now as well
Yo I just move RI.! Let me know if you need someone to blade!
hell yeah thats awesome, don't see many bladers around here but I know theres some. What skatepark do you go to??
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
OH NOW I REMEMBER LOL I watched this video a while ago and i followed you cause of the grinding vids lol if u remembers my comment!
Haha yes, I've came a long way since this video
@@inlineonline yep! Yes, you really have!
How did u teach urself all this in 2 days when i’m slamming into fences to stop at the end of week one 🤣
firstly thank youu!!! I went out every single day so I think progress tends to amplify when you go back to back to back
I did spend time as a young kid going to rental skate rinks with my summer camp.
@@inlineonline ahhh okay. thanks for the tips!
crazy progression xD i skate longer and cant even do the things ur doing >.< now i feel like a chicken
Don't get down on yourself! I took a lot of big slams and tried to rush to learn as much as possible inside 7 days
@@inlineonline well great job :)
@@FluffyAmyNL thank you!!
dylan brady at the end?
Wow how did you recognize that hahah it's a Dylan Brady song that I sampled on my sp404. Such a sick baseline
I want to start inline skate. How did you make the rail?.
its super easy, just two 2x6s and pvc, I made a tutorial a few months ago th-cam.com/video/bElrrSn5NO4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=aQPesfSsrdxQjCBs
Hey as u can Rollerblade right now, how about u try rollerhockey for a day/Week?
@@leowindecker8597 I would LOVE to if I knew anyone who actually played roller hockey, we have a public roller hockey rink in my town that used to be really popular but I never see anyone playing anymore, maybe I feel to search some local groups
when u gonna update us with a handrail???lolol
Lmao Im not ready yet, but if you check the latest videos I know a bunch of different grinds now
Hell yeah brother that's awesome. I'm kinda in the same boat as you. I just started skating again after 20 years and I'll be the first to tell you it wasn't like riding a bike. I took a week of just rolling around and getting used to my new skates before I went to the local skatepark. I'm starting to get all my old grinds back. The other day I did a buttery top Acid. Felt Soo good!! Keep skating! It's keeping us young lol
@@chinobean3555 bro that's awesome topside grinds seem impossible for me right now
