I am a beginner inline skater, it is currently my day 4 and I've noticed a lot of wrong things I'm doing because of this video. I can't thank you enough, sir. This video helped me so much. I will compile my progress and definitely include you in that video. God Bless you sir.
Tell me about it would be good if I had watched this video a month ago a guy at the skating rink was skating backwards not looking where he was going and hit me from behind and I fell on my tailbone and Fracture it one of the worst pain ever.
I've been trying to get into skating on and off for the past year. Somehow, even with my improvements I feel like I'm still finding it hard to do many basic things. But your videos have helped me a lot, so thank you! Because of your knee tip, I can get up from the ground easily :) One of my big hurdles is fear of falling. I hadn't found a backwards fall like this so thanks for it! I'm gonna keep going!
Ricardo is right on the money on that one - very important to avoid the tail bone. I find that my body has adapted to favoring my left butt cheek in a fall. I wear wrist guards, because I can't seem to get my arm not to try to help. The more you fall, get up and keep going, the less you end up caring that you fell, because you know there will be a good chance that you'll just get back up and keep going. And I find that the adrenaline rush and exercise seem to make the injuries less painful, anyway. Happy skating! = )
you can get protective padded shorts for your lower body, so if you fall it can protect your tailbone, butt, etc. this, protective gear, and helmet will decrease your fear of falling by a lot.

im teaching my girl friend and a couple friends how to inline right now, thank you for pointing out some tips for me to watch out for as i teach them. Being a fluid skater for years, its hard for me to exactly explain how to skate to a beginner because i dont really notice the efforts i use to skate the way i do lol. These tips should help!
I'm an intermediate, I've started about two years ago. Regarding falling, I've fallen just a couple of times so far, and I feel like that when it happens, you're down in a moment, and you haven't any time to think of the theory, letting alone applying it. The only thing that helps, in addition to protections, is the posture, mainly not bending backwards, so that if I have to fall, I'm likely not to fall in the worst way. Maybe an automatic reflex can be developed by "fall training", I don't know, I envy the cats!
I stacked it two years ago (10 minutes into skating for the first time in like 10 years) and sprained my knee and haven't touched them since because I'm too scared of doing it again. I'm slowly building up my mental confidence by watching a lot of videos and this type of stuff will hopefully help me fall less hard.
I have little knee support/suppression bands that also double as knee pads. I just hot them from amazon and highly reccomend them. They have like a rubber ring that goes around the knee.
Im on my day 2 of skating after 3 decades 🤫 during my childhood and before I bought my new inline skates last 5 days ago.. I keep on watching your videos for a week now and it helped me a lot to get back on track.. trying to remember what Ive learned 3 decades ago.. thanks Lino
About 10 months after lower back surgery, I got back on quad skates. My rink closed, so I tried the skate park. My stopper came off. I fell backwards like a cartoon character on a banana skin. Nothing I could do. I fell flat on my back. I was skating with my friend who is a nurse. I laid on the concourse looking up at the sky. My friend was worried. She was convinced I should go to hospital. I was more worried about getting up. I am not a small lady. She helped me up. I got up and it actually realigned my back and hip! I've had no hip pain and less back aches since. And the best thing.? The fear of falling is gone. It had to happen. Goes with skating. Pad up people.

Just got my first pair of skates and 2022 is the year of learning a new skill. This video has helped me not be too afraid to get in them. Being a woman of a certain age, I am a little scared of falling but these tips are a great help, Thank you!
Hi Ricardo I personally made several mistakes when starting out on inline skates. The first was that you have to train on a flat surface. I started on a bit of an incline with an elevation. Another was an inappropriate push. When a person learns it wrong, he does it wrong for a long time. My next misstep was speed. Seeing your videos when you're going fast is very motivating, but I've learned that I need to start riding slower. Mainly because of the surfaces. Driving in our small town, where in front of every apartment building there are different tiles, asphalt, concrete, pieces of branches, rockeries, is completely different than, for example, on the cyclo asphalt in Germany, or even in your place in Saint Petersburg. Also the fact that if someone wants to take this sport seriously, they shouldn't start with soft boot skates. That's how I started. A mistake. I should have gone to buy more expensive hard boot skates right away. About 150 euros and more. Protectors are also important. Seeing how you and others like you are doing without protectors can mislead beginners. Even if a person has protectors and falls, he can also fall on his knuckles. Previous mistakes cost me both broken wrists. That's why there are so many new skates for sale in bazaars. Allegedly due to lack of time or the size of the shoe 😄😄😄.. Nevertheless, I continue on, watching your videos, but if I could turn back time like this: 1. Hard boot 2. Protectors 3. Push training. 4. Power stop. 5 jumps 6. Back skating... And only then increasing the speed. I wish you good health. Your subscriber inline skater jojo from Ružomberok, Slovakia. 🫶👈
I used to roller skate when i was a teen and so I thought transitioning to inlines would be easy. I was wrong. They feel very different and i fell more than i'd like to admit. It got the motion and strides but still need to learn how to stop better. Im not as confident as i was starting but im definitely making progress i can be proud of.
I've picked up skating this year after watching you and a few other online inline skaters. I hadn't skated since I was around 13 or 14 and now I'm rolling on some tri wheel skates. You've inspired me to practice my stops to open up where I can skate! Thanks for keeping inline alive.
I feel like hardly anyone gives the advice of not locking your joints so thank you so much for this! I broke my left wrist catching myself while trying to do crossovers, because my elbow was locked.
I been skating for a year and been having problems in my stride I felt heavy. Your video really helped fix those problems with in minutes of seeing your video.. Thank you for sharing your knowledge to help others grow in skating.
4:00 I've hit that bone when I was a kid. Sitting was painful, especially for longer periods of time (like car rides). It has gotten better over the years, but the first few months were horrible, and it was still problematic like 8 years later. It's now been about 15 years and I don't notice it in day-to-day life anymore, but there are still times when I don't sit correctly and it starts to hurt after a while. I've heard stories of others who couldn't sit at all after such an injury and people who had serious problems with it for decades. In other words, please don't underestimate that warning. The chance of it happening is small, but the consequences can be huge. You'd rather break a wrist than to hurt your tail bone.
Perfect timing! I'm waiting for my first skates as an adult to arrive today, and while am excited to get back on them, very thankful for this advice. Really want to get the basics down clean so I can hopefully be city skating before tooooo long.
@@alv1174 I mostly just skate at a local outdoor rink for now. I'm doing pretty well with skating, but have severe asthma thay keeps me from going out very often. I do when I can, but often a month will pass where I can't really exercise.
4:00 I really wish my teacher told me that when I was learning skate. I fell backwards and my coccyx broke and I'm still struggling with it So thank you for this useful video 💕
I’m happy I found this channel - I just bought some online skates my first pair since the 90s - videos like these are so useful -I feel like I’ve forgotten everything
I've been skating since I was a kid and never thought of all the motions and things I actually do. I remember in school we had to write steps to make a pb&j as if we were telling an alien how, for writing comprehension. We all did awful because we just assumed they understood certain things because we did. It's same with this. I never really thought about all the steps that actually go into it. You explained it eloquently and simply at the same time. Loved the video. Even though I'm a year late!
I'm a 40 yrs old lady who wants to learn how to skate. I got my rollerblades 5 yrs ago.But only last week on my off I started using it. Watching from some videos and confidence that I can do what other people can,no matter what my ages, and I did.. Again I've watch your video and recalling everything that I did. That makes me feel more eager to learn and see how it goes after 5 days of doing it. Thank you for the tips...God bless!!
This channel is helpful. I am 40 returning to this after like 28 years and I am a bit out of shape (very) so far I have gotten some really helpful info. Thank you!
I've only skated on quad roller skates, and even then it was very limited experience and a long, long time ago. Now at age 55, I find myself looking at inline skating to supplement or replace my treadmill work, and provide an activity that I can do with my 16 year old daughter who also only has very limited experience with quad skating. This video and another of yours that also covered some basics, have been very helpful in giving us basic knowledge to start building skills upon and get up to speed faster and safer. We'll be putting your information to use once it warms up enough for us to get outside and begin training. Thanks for the video!
Comfy skates you can use safely and effectively are a must. I started skating in 2018 at age 37. My first pair was a pair of Rollerblade Macroblade 80Ws. I tried them on in the store, and they're still my go-to skate. Now, do I wish I had a good pair of aggressive skates and a good pair of slalom skates, or at least inline hockey skates? Sure! But the skates I have work for most of the skating I do. You get over the fear of falling as you practice and actually fall. If you're worried about it, you get pads - which I highly recommend, especially when you're new.
I'm starting to learn how to roller skate for my first time today. Also ,I have muscular dystrophy and I know balance can be hard but I'm not going to give up.
Trying to teach my daughter to skate and I haven't been successful despite being able to do it well myself. This was awesome and helped me identify her issues better.
The reason I can't skate , broke my right ankle 3 times had 3 lateral ligament reconstructions, had my accessory navicular bone removed and my Posterior tibial tendon reattached , and yet I still keep watching these vids , and thinking back to when I could skate as a kid .
I don't feel like this vid was for me, Ricardo. But I watched it. There's nothing wrong with a pro backing up to the beginning for the beginners! I loved it, brother!
im from Pakistan, i loved your this video most... coz im a beginner, these are the things not everyone tells .but these r the things that must reach begginers, "the does and donts" ... i got my 4 wheel skates and im learning how to do it from ur channel
We need more of those video's! I'm a noob with skates and have no one to teach me. So please make more of them so i can learn. You explain it very well!
Just trying to start skating as when I was a kid was taught wrong and always falling. This video helps along with your skating for dummies series. Thank-you so much!
Thanks for all tips. I am a 54 year old man and started roller skating tentatively last year. I know what you mean by dangerous fall as I took it in my 3rd session in the rink. Fortunately, I didn't hurt coccyx or anything. Got into skating rink after a month and still trying. Parents couldn't have afforded skating when I was growing up and I find it very hard learning this as an adult. Taking intermittent help from one local coach in South Africa. Let us see how it goes.
Tip 8. Wow..had no idea I was doing that. That and locking the arm and wrist broke my wrist two years ago. No protection completed the sudden tragedy. Now after two years of cowering, I am back with a vengeance, never taking a second for granted, never getting too heady or proud, protected with pads, and BETTER than EVER. Corrective details just help me that much more.❤
I used to be good at rollerblades, but I haven't done so in years like well over a decade, I decided to try to get back into it as a means to get around after I have totaled my vehicle. anyway, thanks for making this video, Inline skating is not like riding a bike after a long time of having not done so, I forgot everything you mentioned, I wiped out today two feet from my door from my apartment, embarrassing when I look back and recall I used to compete. I was young and foolish and addicted to speed(going fast, Not the drug!), so yeah, I feel confident after watching your video i may try again today.
I've been planning on getting myself a pair of inline skates so I can skate and help my neice with her learning to skate as well, this helped me know how to explain certain things to her and learn some new things myself! Expecially the falling part! I've noticed that when she falls she will put her hands behind her, I always try to catch her before she hits the ground, cause I've falled and hit my tailbone a lot before when I used to inline and ice skate and had no one to give me pointers
I haven’t skated since I was a kid! Just bought roller blades yesterday and started learning again. Of course I’m nervous about hurting myself but I’m taking my precautions and watching videos. Thanks for these tips!
man and today i fell on my ass bc i was going too fast ! now i know why because i was like what did i do wrong i was riding consistently, but that was the issue. i kept pushing without taking a moment to stroll and chill out on my v stance. thankyou so much for the tips!
Watched as an absolute beginner for the first time and it all sounds very helpful ! I think for me you are explaining the wright things in a very helpful and positive way . Like to see and hear more from you ! Take care !
honestly finding the right skates for you is such a big thing. ive tried many different pairs of skates and they all ride entirely differntly. practicing form is KEY but also finding that cheap skate cause your not sure you will commit or not its a tough decision to make. i went all in and found what works for me and what doesnt
I'm trying to help someone who wants to skate and your video was really helpful. Some things are so natural when you skate for years that it's really complicated to explain it to someone who can't... 😅 I know what to say to help now 😁👍 thanks!
Very good points about not locking up the joints, something many of similar videos dont mention. But only way to prepare for this is to practice it regularly otherwise people just panic. Muscle memory is hard to develop (in the fall theres almost no time to think).
I'm learning how to stop when you I have taken some speed. For now, I always have my hands out and try to visualize that if I fall, what is the best way to absorb the impact. No protective equipment yet lol
Bro...im 46...starting my "bucket list" early...used to skate till 19- when I got my 1st car...so now Im getting back to what really made me from the start
I was looking for reviews on the Micro Skate MT4 Lavender and coincidentally came across this on one of the videos. Thought it was the same skates on the thumbnail and now I'm convinced to get these! Thank you!!! 💗 Really great advice on the video too! Subscribed!
Thank you for this detailed explanation! I just got my skates (and I love them!) and will start my first practice this weekend. Your videos helped me understand the basics so I do feel more confident now. :)
I love this video I'm also a ice skate coach but I teach figure skating but everything what you said is exactly what I teach except in roller skate and figure skating stopping is different but we'll done on the video I'm planning on trying inline skates myself.
I've been window shopping rollerblade skates for some years and today watching your video I've decided to give it a try 😊 I don't skate since elementary school, can't wait to receive the impala package 😁 also, great video 🇵🇹🇵🇹
@ricardo lino, hi i am from malaysia. Thank you for having these videos for us. It is so informative and i have started skating back after 20 years off wheels. Now i am getting in back and learning again. It felt so different when i used to skate.
Good teacher, I just bought skates yesterday, started skating on the public road, not so smart uhum, I fell on my ass in front of poeple. I could get going, but I really could not go that fast, only a little faster then walking speed, but I think I know what the issue is now, after watching this video. My legs still hurt, think you use leg muscles you normally don't use much, so I will try again the day after tomorrow and watch the video again before I do it as a reminder. Thanks Ricardo.
like 6 weeks ago I fell in my coccyx, I still feel the pain when I sat for a long period, I'm glad I watch this video, cuz I didn't know how to avoid that fall although the time when I fell was because I got distracted so I noticed when I was on the floor. Thanks for the video and greetings from Chile!
Im already a intermediate skater and im confident in most basic stuff and some intermediate ones. But man I enjoyed this video more than I should have.
Hey Ricardo, thanks a lot for a great teaching video, once again. Let's see if with some practice and following your tips I'm able to skate in the end of the summer. What about protections? I'm using hands, elbows and knees protections. Don't you think it's a good idea for beginners? Cheers from Montijo.

Same here, i hope it heals soon
@@preciousjohn9084 still having issues. I slipped my disc shortly afterwards (possibly related) and my tailbone is still giving me grief 😅
I can, and this is what I'm gonna do tomorrow, 2nd ride on my new M12 after 8 years break... I love that feeling :D
Have fun 🤜🏻💥🤛🏻
I used to roller skate when i was a teen and so I thought transitioning to inlines would be easy. I was wrong. They feel very different and i fell more than i'd like to admit. It got the motion and strides but still need to learn how to stop better. Im not as confident as i was starting but im definitely making progress i can be proud of.
Dude you rock. I am 35 and I just start yesterday and I am pretty scared. This is slowly easing me into it. I definitely need to overcome my fear.
Any update on your progress?
@@alv1174 I mostly just skate at a local outdoor rink for now. I'm doing pretty well with skating, but have severe asthma thay keeps me from going out very often. I do when I can, but often a month will pass where I can't really exercise.
@@mekko902 sorry to hear that. I just started yesterday. I am hoping that I can keep to it and build up confidence. All the best to you.
@@alv1174 Thank you! It's seriously so fun to go out and do.

I really wish my teacher told me that when I was learning skate. I fell backwards and my coccyx broke and I'm still struggling with it
So thank you for this useful video 💕
Thank you!
I feel you. 2 Kids and a bunch of years later also starting again
I rediscovered inline skating with my 6 year old son. I am skating on a pair of Powerslide Cell 2 FSK with matter juice wheels and I love them.
I needed this, I'm relearning how to roller blade, and learning how to skate on quads for the first time. Thank you!!
Almost 58 years and just got interested in inline skating. Very informative, thank you!
This vid totally helped me top sole that massive ledge at the park. Thanks Ricky
Theres no such thing as massive park ledge ;) will always be a park ledge,, and I’m cool with it ;o)
Way to stomp it.
I’ve been skating/hockey for years and this video is actually pretty helpful
Corrective details just help me that much more.❤
Thank you! Im glad to discover your channel, it means a lot🙏🏻
I’m glad too ;)
Welcome toy addiction🤷🏻♂️
Heehe
I've skaterd trough my teen years. Now im a dad of 2 boys. 38 years old and i feel the need to start again. Its Just so much fun
Omg thank you so much for this! Your explanation helped me get my forward stride finally! Thank you so much!
Great job @Ricardolino! Thanks for the lessons. 1st time skater in my 30s.
Mr. Zephy from Kenya🇰🇪
Asante sana!🙏🇰🇪
Ive been wanting to try this for years and i finally bought a pair! These tips are super helpful (especially the how to fall part). Thanks!
Nice once it's an eye opening for beginners like me. And searching for such tutorial. Great job.
I haven’t skated since I was a kid! Just bought roller blades yesterday and started learning again. Of course I’m nervous about hurting myself but I’m taking my precautions and watching videos. Thanks for these tips!
I used to skate and I was curious how you were teaching people, these are great tips for the beginners. Nicely done.
Great lesson!! I would suggest snowboard shorts for beginning. Completely padded. And wrist guards, knees and elbows. Thank you for this great video!
The last tip helped me a lot!!!! Thank you so much
man and today i fell on my ass bc i was going too fast ! now i know why because i was like what did i do wrong i was riding consistently, but that was the issue. i kept pushing without taking a moment to stroll and chill out on my v stance. thankyou so much for the tips!
I'm glad that I didn't did any mistakes mentioned above as a beginner skater for first 2 day😀
Watched as an absolute beginner for the first time and it all sounds very helpful !
After Watching this video, I thought I already only have half of the road left to go ... 🎉🎉🎉🎉 thank you very much
Bless you
Hola Ricardo! You are teaching really good, I would love to see more of these. Thanks for the effort
Moving foward and backwards is helping me thank you goodsie
4:43 what do you mean by not blocking arm joints? situation example pls?
I think he means don't keep them straight out. I did that with skateboarding and I ended up breaking my left arm
I love this video I'm also a ice skate coach but I teach figure skating but everything what you said is exactly what I teach except in roller skate and figure skating stopping is different but we'll done on the video I'm planning on trying inline skates myself.
I've been window shopping rollerblade skates for some years and today watching your video I've decided to give it a try 😊 I don't skate since elementary school, can't wait to receive the impala package 😁
also, great video 🇵🇹🇵🇹
@ricardo lino, hi i am from malaysia. Thank you for having these videos for us. It is so informative and i have started skating back after 20 years off wheels. Now i am getting in back and learning again. It felt so different when i used to skate.
One of the greatest, if not the greatest, video for beginners ive ever seen.
Wow lovely I'm so excited I'll try to learn soon Ricardo thank you so much for teaching people ❤️❤️❤️
I'm on day 3 and I can almost skate but can't figure out how to start and this video helped alot I can now skate the length of my neighborhood
thank you so much! you reached me the basics on how to skate now I love skating and I know how to do it!!!
What kind of skates are you using in this video, they are so pretty!
The Micro Mt4 lavender, they willl be available in a couple months :)
I love how they look too.

like 6 weeks ago I fell in my coccyx, I still feel the pain when I sat for a long period, I'm glad I watch this video, cuz I didn't know how to avoid that fall although the time when I fell was because I got distracted so I noticed when I was on the floor. Thanks for the video and greetings from Chile!
Thank you!!! I knew what I was doing wrong but didn't know how to correct it. Saw many videos but yours is the only one I understood perfectly
I'm gonna have to comeback to this video often so I can keep these tips close and remembered. Thank you.
Im already a intermediate skater and im confident in most basic stuff and some intermediate ones. But man I enjoyed this video more than I should have.
Wow thanx for all these tips, wish I watched it before trying…would have avoided so many falls.
Number 10 cracked me up... walking like a robot. Thank you for this video!!!
Sim, proteções .. muito muito importante. Mas acredito que isso vai muito da parte de cada pessoa , este vídeo è sobretudo sobre erros mais comuns ;)
Has-de conseguir
@@RicardoLino eheheh ok, mto obrigado! Só falei nas proteções porque elas ajudam-me a não ter medo de cair. Pode ser uma segurança falsa, mas a mim ajuda-me :D
Big thumbs up and sub. I just sold me aggressive skates and waiting for my new Powerslide Zooms. Then off to SA to do some skating. Cannot wait.
Who else are addicted to skating and only comes here to see someone skating?
Thanks my friend!
This is the most informative video for beginners! Thanks for making it concise and easy to understand
Love this video but could you do a version of it on quads to see the similarities and differences. I’m a complete beginner and have the impala quads but I’m not very confident at all and my centre of gravity sucks without them on. 😂
Thanks for the suggestion.
Offcourse with quads some things are diferent.
I can of course make a video about it ;) 🙏🏻
@@RicardoLino thank you!!! Hey from Yorkshire UK btw 👋🏼
After watching this video I realized how much im doing wrong. Thank you for sharing this guidelines as it really helps me a lot as a beginner.
