  • I bought a burnt 2004 Cadillac Deville DHS convertible from Copart for only $750. Non running, and who knows how many miles could be on it! ‪@bigalsbikeandauto‬ and I try to get her to “fire up!”

    I've been in the water, fire and smoke home restoration business for over 40 years. Your going to find that the smoke has filtered every nook and cranny inside. You'll have take your time on the cleaning but you'll get there. A piece of advice... Because there was plastic that burned keep her in a dry environment as you work. The smoke can become acid/ corrosive when humidity gets to the smoke and can cause pitting etc. on interior metal as well as even the glass can etch. When you pull her apart make sure you clean the connectors as you go as well.This will be you best detailing job yet. If anyone can you can because of your detail. Just take your time.

      I'm shocked you're saying that he will be able to clean it to the point you won't smell smoke. I didn't think it would be possible, but you're in the business so I defer to you. The headliner and the felt-like stuff on the door trim I do wonder if he'll be able to salvage any of the stuff because neither I could ever get clean just from basic dirt. Then the headliner i would say just have it redone by an interior shop. Not trying to be negative though if you say it will clean up I believe you. It's a gorgeous car and yes it runs beautifully. I had a 2007 - slightly different/updated body, but basically the same. 200k and it ran PERFECTLY with not a single issue. Unfortunately I totalled the car, but no issues with it prior. Best of luck with yours SMC...

      @@wilsixone I’m assuming knowing anthony he will replace headliner… it will depend how hot smoke got as it rises if it got to foam etc. He will know what to replace after though cleaning.

    I cannot believe you got that car running. I see it has almost a full tank of gas.Good thing it didnt' blow up. You guys are amazing you can deal with this stuff. The car's 19 years old and still so complex, even back then. I didnt' know custom 4-door convertibles were built so I learned something today.

    Anthony this is like a scene from vice grip garage!! Lol he brings cars back from the dead from 30 years or more!! What a find that could have been worse right?, hot ride would be the way to test it . Best thing to do is drive it to see it makes the test of time.. bring paoa bear with you or any one who can fix it in case of anything going wrong. If you don't at least do that tow the sucker for sure!! It
    Looks like a diamond in the rough! Great score on this. Let us know what our costs to bring it up to your driving status.. either way it had paid your plane rides back and forth...THANK YOU FOR THE show it proves north star engines can survive.....:)

    too easy to fix. I mean, yeah you're gonna be taking it apart to get it cleaned up, but can't really go wrong at that price point, with those low miles. Nice buy. I'll add that smoke damage I've seen in cars is like corrosive or something, that is undoubtedly where all of the rust and corrosion is coming from. But with a parts car, you're home free. Enjoy the process. Good year too for the Northstar engine- they changed it like mid 04 and that looks like the revised unit. BTW-You can tell immediately by the difference in the engine beauty cover.

    (You asked) Keep the miles off, be safe and go back to pick it up on the trailer. Or ship it back to NH. You just may have a jackpot hit on your hands depending how much it takes to replace parts and get it cleaned to perfection. Looks weird to see a 4 dr convert but how many were produced/converted and how many left is the key to some weird money! P.S. Love those Naples cars....my '05 LTC 64K miles came from there and love it.

    I suspect the cause was faulty wiring. To make anything out of the vehicle the whole interior needs to be removed so that you are left with an empty shell to rebuild.

    • @wilsixone
      @wilsixone ปีที่แล้ว

      Why is that? Ie "faulty wiring"... It just as easily could be a faulty module which results in the same thing - smoke, then fire. As for removing the entire interior, I'm with you up to the dash which I would not remove! Also questionable whether I'd remove the door cards - I don't think so though. The rest of it, pretty much yeah. I don't know how Paul would be able to clean the headliner, I don't believe it can be done. Also the felt-covered whether stripping around the doors I don't believe can be cleaned satisfactorily. Those can be taken from a donor vehicle, which there have to be a few around it being 19 years old...
