We played this as one of contest pieces when I was a senior in high school. I played bassoon, and with the other bassoon player, we split the solos. Hardest piece we ever played, but so worth it.
Played this in HS back in 1973 (1st clarinet). I still remember when we read through it for the first time. Terrifying. But, we worked super hard and took it to district contest. Still one of the most fun playing experiences I ever had.
I played Eb clarinet on this when we did it at Southeast Missouri State... Between its demands and the fact that orchestra was right after wind ensemble (and I had to switch to playing the A), I think it broke my embouchure... lol
Loved this piece. I played this in high school in 1978. I played 1st trumpet. Remember my part went to a high E. Never have seen that in band music before or since. It takes a strong band in all sections to play this. Great stuff!
Congratulations on this wonderful performance of Makris' most famous work! Please check our (the Makris Symphony Orchestra's) channel for more music composed by Andreas Makris...
Man, until someone can rewrite that ending, people should stop playing this piece. It's a disaster in orchestration. Nobody has ever been able to make it sound decent. It's as if all of a sudden, a mute is placed in every instrument during the last 8 bars or so.

Blessings to the clarinets when the piece transitioned from slow fast... I shall light a candle for all future clarinet sections wishing to attempt
For bassoons, the solo starts at 5:00
Thanks, that's what I'm looking for!
You’re a real one 👌
Wow - just great! 🎶🔥❤️
4:00 that's tough
When I went there, it was called "NTSU." :)

Dear UNT, pretty please remove the ad after the intro of the piece, it's a bummer that it has to be there 🙂

I think it sounds good like that sounds iconic as well tbh gives a good dramatic cenamatic feel
The addition of the castanet. part is perfect
