It was one of the highlights of my high school music career when band Director Kevin Stone chose me to play the clarinet solo in the middle. I played E flat clarinet with the piccolo until switching to B-flat for the solo and we nailed it at the Colorado music festival. Little old high school band from Orange Texas brought home the trophies 🏆❤ Gorgeous piece of music 🎶
Jackson HS Symphonic Band, Jackson, MI-1979 State Festival selection. One amazing HS band. My friend Jim Forgey did the clarinet solo. I was principal euphonium under the baton of Ken Vince. One hot band. Straight I's that day.
And to the director - you led them INCREDIBLY well - incredibly artistic, balanced, exciting, even handed, intuitive, proper drama, communicative. Wow.
I'm currently playing this piece. The composer doesn't know how to compose. 4/8 and 2/4 with the same rhythm in both, but it still switches time? HUH?????
I remember playing this in high school. It was one of my favorites ❤
Y’all nailed it we’re playing it this year and I almost cried looking at how many times the time signature changes

Amazing clarinet solos
Max Pankau - yes. Wow yes. So nicely done.
6:05 - LOVE it when the slower melody finally comes into its own - it's heartbreaking in a way. Utterly beautiful.
you realize you commented 7 times... right?
I did this for All State in 1972. It was the hardest piece I ever played!!
We also did it in All-State in 1972 (Mountlake Terrace High School, in Washington State). Never practiced so hard on anything before or after.
President's Own - y'all did a FINE job performing this piece. Really Nice Job. !!!!!!!!!!!!!

The memories of high school Arizona All State1973 performed at Arizona State University, Gammage Auditorium

Great performance though! It actually sounds great!
because the feeling of the beat changes even if the rhythms are the same 👍👍
