- In the latest REI Co-op Studios short documentary film "Finding Our Wild," co-directed by Sid Gopinath and Aditya Joshi, Sid and his father embark on a weeklong camping trip to explore Yellowstone, Grand Teton and Rocky Mountain National Parks. Along the way, they talk about Prabha’s immigration experience, how memories are made (and forgotten) over the course of a lifetime, and what it means to watch each other grow older. We get a glimpse into their home movies and photo albums, learning about their family history and evolving relationships with the outdoors, as well as the ongoing shift in their own relationship.

Whooom..."right in the feels" as they say.
As a former REI employee, and of Boulder (#44) no less...all the places they traveled to, pass by, etc on the way to Rocky Mountain NP brought tears to my eyes...plus seeing the Flatirons, Indian Peaks...wow.
Additionally now having moved back East where my family is in Northcentral PA...having the blessing of seeing my parents every weekend at the Farm, watching them grow older, moving slower, my Dad's eyes all but completely failing...this was a beautiful albeit gut-wrenching film that really hit home.
THANK YOU for putting this together...hit me on so many, many levels!
I went to high school with Sid! I always brought extra snacks to share with him in biology. This is so cool and Sid was such a nice person; I'm so happy for him and this accomplishment!
Watching this made me want to pick up my dad and head into a rainstorm. I teared up listening to Sid and Prabha’s meaningful conversations about family, the American outdoors, and the pivotal decisions we make that change the course of our families’ lives forever.
This film beautifully demonstrates that we can bloom not only where we’re planted but also where we choose to replant and reimagine ourselves time and time again.
What a beautiful film; it brought me to tears. I think about my own relationship with my parents and being the daughter of an immigrant. Such a profound story to share. Thank you
Thank you for watching and sharing your reflections, Lara!
Wow, came across this because of the XP / Nimbl Camper featured in it. I am incredibly moved and emotional. What a beautiful, brave, wise set of feelings and thoughts portrayed and conveyed very well!
Love the quote: "All the things you take for granted can go away in a moment. You have no control over it. So all the things you say "I'll do it someday". You've got to go back and look at that list and say that all these assumptions I make about these things being around. People being around. Are they true? I better do them now, while I still can with people I want to do it with."
YES!
Thank you for sharing all the beauty and vulnerability with strangers. I hope you continue sharing the outdoors.
"It's very slippery"
"Then I'll Fall"
What an amazing, beautiful, and inspiring story!!!! I pray it’s just the first and not the “only”!!!!
I’m not as close to my son as I’d like to be but extremely close to my daughter and grandson!!!! I would love to be able to take them all together out on trek for a week or two!!!! Just to connect and share the blessings that Ha’Shem has given to us!!! Maybe share my camping experience, but hopefully open up a new world of the “Outdoors” to them and their families!!!!
Great video REI!!!
We hope that for you and your family too, Terry.
I am currently at 19 second mark, and having previously viewed the prior 18 seconds of the film I am speechless. Rei, I miss you guys very much; I have heard down the line that the Portland store had to close. Thank you for all that each of you do. Paul's boots was such a touching video that I will never forget the rest of my life. Keep on being you always and inspiring all of us to do the same. My heart thanks you! One day I hope to meet this father and son duo or maybe their offspring~ what a beautiful portrait of Absolute Love!!! Sending a great deal of love from the Midwest. 🌻🌸
I grew up with Sid and always admired the great relationship he had with his father. Makes me want to do a similar trip with my own dad while we still have time.
We hope you take that trip.
Love THIS!! I found it through Yasmin's music home page! I'm a Boulder native and I did this same thing with my mom in Utah two years ago! It was an amazing trip. Get out there!!
What a meaningful, heart warming, and inspiring story. A story beutifully told, thank you. This ispires us to make the connections with those we love and to be fully present in the moment when we are with them.
Beautiful and inspirational. Thank you.
My Son and I are not in a relationship at all. I’m not sure why and that’s the honest truth.
But I give him his space until he figures out what he wants. His sister and I are extremely close and the grandson she has blessed me with, well we talk almost every day!!!!
I always think about what it would be like if we just roughed it up in Yellow Stone, or Big Bend, or anywhere that we could soak in the grandiose place that Ha’Shem has given us!!! I maybe could solve the problems that we have and make everlasting memories.
Until then, Thank You!!!!!!
This is a beautiful story. We need to do this with our love ones ❤ thank you for sharing
Absolutely, and thank you, Arlene!
An amazing film and piece of artwork so glad to see this on REI - felt so relatable and full of the scary thoughts about life and reality we sometimes forget to think about
Thank you so much for sharing. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this short. Two beautiful people inside and out, plus can I snuggle that puppy please!
Thanks for watching, Florine. We'll pass on the snuggles for ya.
Wonderfully done. What a great gift to your dad and your future family. How can I watch or find more of your work?
