  • The executive car market is ruled by Audi, BMW and Mercedes, but the truth is not everyone wants one of those. The new Lexus ES, which replaces the GS, is the Japanese firm’s latest offering in the executive saloon class, and offers lots of technology, a more comfort-focused driving experience and a very compelling financial package. Is that enough to make it a viable alternative to the German powerhouses? Auto Trader’s Road Test Editor Ivan Aistrop travels to Malaga in Spain to find out.

    I grew up in Europe driving lots of German cars but once I moved to America and started driving Lexus I said I will never go back to a German car. Lexus IS way superior to any German car.

    I went from a 2014 BMW 520D to a Lexus is 300h. The fit and finish of the Lexus is far superior with not one squeak or rattle anywhere unlike my BMW which had cheaper plastics and crackling interior especialy on a warm day.

      Yeah my mum is moving from a 2014 520d too and she gets her Lexus next month!
      I made a video on the Scottish Takumi edition ES if you want to check it out ? :)

    as a german and after over 20 years of our brands i switched to LExus but i wish they would offer the better V6Hybrid in that model as they did in the GS450h which is MUCH faster and more pleasant on Autobahn !! These 4cyl. are overstressed and loud in that heavy car. My V6Hybrid is more refined !

    This car isn't about performance. If you want that buy a Lexus RCF or GSF

      @kubanskiloewe 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      but the V6Hybrid from my old RX or from its predecessor GS450h would be much better !! these 4cyl. are just to underpowered and loud and overstressed in those heavy cars !

    Not-folding rear seats ! I didn't know such a thing existed.

    • @jimv1983
      @jimv1983 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There is a "V" shaped brace bar behind the rear seats that improves stability, ride quality and handling but it means there isn't the fold down seats.

    I would never give any German car a second glance. They just cant match the reliability of the Lexus.
    You won't always be putting your hand in your pocket to get things fixed.

    Lexus has great build quality but it's tech interface is the worst in the industry. This fwd barge really offers nothing as far as dynamics and handling. I would get a cheaper Avalon for 99% of the experience for 80% of the price. This car will be great for old people who just want basic transportation for an expensive price

    • @asianskywalker
      @asianskywalker 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It has far superior sound deadening for an even more quiet ride

    • @joaquinjr2570
      @joaquinjr2570 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In Europe they do not have the Avalon

    • @aleksandarjoksovic9906
      @aleksandarjoksovic9906 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Carfreak's Brother Well, if you start collecting cheaper elements in a car, then you kinda loose the meaning and purpose of a premium car. Oh, and no, you can't have a premium car with FWD layout. It's an oxymoron.

    • @aleksandarjoksovic9906
      @aleksandarjoksovic9906 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Carfreak's Brother Shitty, whining CVT transmissions, slowish auto-transmissions, infotainment systems with a flair of last decade, bland, old-fashioned switches in the cabin, lousy handling... Guess these things don't matter to the average Joe in the States but, let's say in Europe, it isn't enough to play with the big German premium trio. I'll give them the reliabilty though. Can't say nothing about that. But that's far from enough for those who crave for the premium sedan to the core. Don't belive me, check the European sales figures. Lexus is irrelevant here. Guess why.

    • @jimv1983

      Lexus is made by Toyota which means Toyota quality and reliability. Genesis is made by Hyundai which has much lower quality and reliability than Toyota.

      yep its V6Hybrid was by far the better powertrain ! I will search to get one of these used because on Autobahn this ES300 is much to slow and underpowered...every little Golf with 1,4ltrTurbo (149PS) smoke you :-(
