I love the casual, entertaining style of these videos. This one has me confused because Mike says he's hearing both in his headphones. Why not pan one to the left and the other to the right when filming these comparisons, then just render it out as a mono file in REAPER for the final product? I think I'll send him an email about that. Seems like it would make doing these videos a lot easier, right? Or am I missing something?
i hate the casual style of this video. it looks and sounds like me when im setting up / testing equipment for the first time in MY studio! i'd never want anyone to see me like that! and to keep popping out of the booth is annoying as hell! i appreciate that dude knows his mics but....

Nope. My Yeti Pro has that nasty hiss, and there is nothing you can do about it. They may have fixed whatever causes it in the mic they sent that guy. Most people that use it through XLR know that there is a ridiculous hiss that doesn't go away.
Spend a little extra and get the AT4040 for 300 bucks on Amazon. It has NO NOISE. I run it through the Scarlett Solo. I got two jobs immediately after getting the 4040. 2k being made just from a microphone upgrade of about 50 bucks. Well worth it.
Don't do the Yeti Pro unless you're using it as a USB mic.
Even if planning to use it as a USB mic.....don't get the Yeti Pro.
I don't understand why someone would want a Yeti Pro when you can get a better mic like an SM-58 and an audio interface for less.
The first one I got had a hiss too. The driver wasn't properly recognized either. It could be you got a faulty product. Once I got my replacement, I've had no audible hiss whatsoever. I think they may have issues with their packing with some retailers and their cables are a little sensitive from what I understand. They need to rethink how they ship their mics, but a functioning model should have no hiss.
what if you get it, complain about the hiss in emails and try to get them to send you one that doesn't have hiss?
Have you updated the yeti pro firmware?
The Yeti Pro has an array of small 14 mm diaphragms, and the Lewett is a single large diaphragm, which will, in my opinion give it a richer sound. The Yeti Pro, I have found rolls off the low frequencies as well, giving it less "beef". The strong point of the Yeti is it's versatility, multi patterns including stereo, USB and XLR and I believe the Pro was one of the first mics to offer these features as well as 24 bit 96k conversion (perhaps higher). For critical purposes, the two mics are different animals and the Yeti is what it is! Good reviews Mike!

There is one point you might have to consider about the hissing sound. For the Blue Yeti pro running XLR, you have one channel connected to your equipment but the other channel open ended. Which I think the exposed pins might pick up some electrical noise from around. What do you think?

Unfortunately, I have not had a great experience with my brand new Yeti pro. At this point I am extremely frustrated with the unit because the noise/Hiss will not go away no matter what I do. I have tried all kinds of different settings and suggestions from others around the web and still cannot find a solution. I cannot record anything. I plugged it directly to my MacBook pro (2.7GHz core i7, 16gb of ram, 1TB HDD) via USB, I tried a berhinger mixer with phantom power and still no improvement. Lastly, I tried the Yeti Pro with my APOGEE DUET which anyone can agree is a great interface and still get more noise and hiss. Yes I did make sure my gain is at zero when using the XLR blablablabla...I tried everything. Now it's just sitting on my home studio desk like a useless fancy prop. I will upload a video about how bad the YETI PRO is. I am not sure if the example Mike is using have been revised or they did something to it but what Mike experienced the first time with this product is what I'm going through. I know people will say I may have a bad unit but at this point I am discouraged. thinking of getting an ASTON SPIRIT multipattern mic. just my story...

I'm the owner of the former Yeti Pro that Mike reviewed and the one in this video. It sounds like you are having a similar issue to the one I had. I figured it was something on my end when it's probably an issue with the mic itself. I would suggest calling Blue Microphone to see about getting a replacement. If you purchased it through a validated 3rd party seller like Amazon or Blue Microphone themselves, you will get a replacement within 10 days. If it was purchased through Ebay, it may not replace it.
That being said, It does sound like the same problem I had with my old one. Hope that helps.
That does sound like a bad apple though, especially since Mike's new one appears to be dead quiet.
Does it have to be a multipattern mic? You can get quite a number of very fine mics (if fixed cardioid) in that sort of price range, like Sennheiser MK4 or Rode NT1000 (or NT1), or whatever. And if you do need a multipattern one for once, there are some cheap and cheerful ones out there.

you may be right. May be a bad apple. I like multi-patterned mics because of the flexibility they offered. it's like have 4-5 mics in one which is good for us on a budget trying to build a home studio and keeping our marriage (we don't want the wife to kick us out for spending too much on audio recording gadgets...lol).
As advised, I opened a case with Blue Microphones and send it in. Thank God I saved my receipt from B&H. I opened the warranty case with Blue and shipped them the microphone. It's been two and half weeks at this time and will let you guys know if I got a brand new replacement or the same bad one. Thanks
From the standpoint of an average joe that doesn't know any better, the Yeti sounded the best. It had great volume and depth. I find that professional sound snobs don't like the same mic sounds as average people so saying one is better than the other seems pretty subjective.
I have the Yeti Pro thru a Studio V3 pre-amp an ART by ART and I hear no hiss at all. I use it with an XLR cable then going out to my Panasonic G7 camera. I just wish it was smaller, but I like the mic.

I’m on my second Yeti Pro as well. My first one failed to the point of being nothing but feedback, but happened to get it sent in for warranty within the 2 year timeframe, and they replaced it. Blue made it a pretty painless process and didn’t cost me anything to replace, but I have noticed the same issue creep up with the replacement. I’ve seen mentions of it on a few forums as well, so I wonder if most people that really positively vocal about them are still in the honeymoon stage. Will definitely be getting something different when the time comes.
I have so much respect for Mike doing the follow up/correction video for the Yeti Pro. And I realise for the Booth Junkie TH-cam channel the Yeti Pro is an important mic to review and get right - gamers and streamers and TH-camrs will get a lot out of this video....
In the hiss comparison the Blue was slightly less (I did have to turn up my volume, before the 10Db boost).
The Blue Yeti Pro sounded brighter than the Lewitt, the Lewitt sounding more poised and slightly more assured, slightly more depth and low end.
However... I really want Mike to review some of Blue's other microphones. The Bluebird, the Baby Bottle, the Dragonfly and the Blueberry, I would love to see any of those mics in the booth. I would send them in for him, but I am in the EU. I would also love to see some of AKG offering C214 (especially this one as I have it)/314/414.

I have the Yeti pro and it malfunctions when I connect it to the Tascam DR40X recorder via the XLR input, it sounds very noisy in the background. When I connect it to the PC via usb it works perfectly. Does anyone know why? thanks!
Yeti Pro was the worst microphone I ever owned. Not cheap, terrible on USB because the gain is much lower and not loud enough compared to the USB only Yeti, and disappointing performer as a XLR mic. Also the desk stand for all the Yeti microphones is so bad for picking up vibration so you have to buy a mount/stand for it.
The yeti is shit because it has the same specs as the snowball but it’s 50 dollars more

With you for some reason I didn’t mind the real time setup at all. Also could you start doing asmr review testing for your mic reviews by chance. You review so many mics but I can never tell how it might sound for me with whispering as that’s what I need mics for.🎙️
So the Lewitt has a bit more noise, but man, it sounds great for the price! Lively and natural
The Yeti Pro still sounds like crap here, it's still really tinny. I guarantee the one in the last video wasn't some anomaly. From what I've seen and heard Blue's USB mics either have really poor quality control or they're just designed poorly and I'm certain it's the latter. If Blue doesn't want people to have bad opinions of them then their cheaper stuff shouldn't be awful. I don't even like their cheaper XLR mics either.

It looks like the Yeti is at least a couple inches further away than the LCT 240Pro. Could that explain any of the response differences, and why the Lewitt sounds a little 'bassier', and a little less harsh in the high end? I just purchased a Yeti Pro on Amazon mere hours ago, mostly for the USB functionality, as I travel a lot and like the idea of not requiring a preamp, but now I am having second thoughts...
I am a VO newbie and want to do things right. Had been leaning toward USB for the exact same reasons: minimalism for traveling. A friend of mine loaned me his Yeti just to have something to get practicing. I'm having trouble getting it to load up on my laptop which is why I popped onto TH-cam for additional info. Of course when ever I see a Booth Junkie video remotely close to what I am researching I am compelled to watch... love the video series! So now, as Scott Mac said, having second thoughts. Grrrr. I just know there must be a way to garner quality sound without extra luggage for equipment while traveling... there has to be. Right?
Get a Behringer 802 USB mixer with two Samson Q2U mics and there’s your stereo with usb for about $160. Headphones and cables to boot.
I bought a couple last week and they both have an insane amount of hiss. I had them both hooked up to my Tascam DR-40 and even at -12db it was clipping and distorted so I'm returning them. I'm pretty bummed cause I really liked my blue snowball
the tascam dr 40 itself has very bad preamps and is very hissy. you should first get a better recorder or interface. i recommend the zoom h5 or tascam dr 100 mk3 or a pc audio interface
What preamp are you using? Do you have to use something like a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 3rd Gen or MOTU 828? for stereo?
Yeti pro is much better than the other. I even liked it more than your 1000 dollar one!
It would be beneficial to edit your videos. There's about a minute worth of actual content here. Also you didn't determine which mic was less noisy in post like you stated you'd need to do.
Blue yeti mics are the worst sounding mikes ever. It doesn't matter how you set the gain either on the audio interface or the mic itself, you still get distortion and hissing. There's also whiny noises in the background of each recording.
A dongle? That is the pits. I only have the USB version of the Yeti, and it's one of only 2 mics in my collection that I consider really awful. The other is a Blue enCORE 200, the noisiest, hissiest mic I've ever heard. I have wasted entire days of my life trying to find a balance of mic level, and windows level that would make the Yeti sound decent. No more Blue for me. But you've made another great video, really shows the difference between the Yeti and the Lewitt.
I think Blue might have some quality control issues. My regular blue yeti also won't screw into a standard mic stand. They messed up the thread size and it is slightly too large to thread onto it. Glad to see yours worked. I then got a samson satellite usb mic and it worked fine thread wise. However I don't think it sounded as good as my blue yeti did. So I said screw it and got an E835 dynamic mic and a focusrite 2i2 lol. My 2i2 wasn't that cheap though. Maybe you can find better deals and get one for under 100? Mine was like 160 bucks at guitar center. The scarlet solo was 99 dollars I think so same pre amp just one input is all. Or maybe you could find a 2i2 gen 2 on sale or used and get a bargain. I was thinking the yeti pro for 250 bucks is a stupid high price if you were using it with XLR. Seems like you could get a much better mic for that kind of money. I guess considering it has different patterns and stereo it kind of justifies it. If you need or want that. If you don't still seems like a waste of money to me. And if you are not getting it for XLR then just get the standard yeti. My guess would be they are using the same pre amp and all that in it. I doubt they upgraded the internals in the yeti pro. Probably just added an XLR jack, Y adapter and threw a different paint job on it. I think the standard yeti should be a 100 dollar mic and the pro should be maybe 30 or 40 bucks more. And the nano or whatever the new little one is should be like 70 or 80 bucks. I think Blue's pricing is a tad high compared to their competition but hey they are selling them just fine lol. Hell I bought one.

The Yeti sounds good, but it's super big and clunky. I'd much rather go with something like an AT-2035, much easier to have on a regular mic stand.
nobodyhere yeah I hear ya! And for those looking for a cheap usb option to get them started, you can get a stick that basically acts as an interface and works just as simply as a usb mic would. Actually the AT2020 XLR model + one of those sticks is ballpark the same price as the USB model too... so why not? I mean that stick is upgradable to a good box later without replacing the mic itself (the benefit the yeti pro is selling).
People like to shit on the 2020 and 2035, they arent bad starter mics and the 2020 is what Put Audio Technica on the map

The Lewitt LCT240 Pro had a really weird hacking on the noise. The Blue Yeti Pro Studio noise was way smoother, but with noticeably more bass in the hiss. That being said, on the voice, there is very little difference to me. I cannot really say that’s a flattering comment to make, towards the LCT240 that is. After all, the Yeti Pro, while being 100 bucks more expensive, actually has the same microphone capsules in it as the regular Yeti for around 129$. Yes, multiple capsules. And an Interface on top of that. So given Blue had a lot less money for each capsule , this is quite impressive. Something about the Lewitt LCT 240 Pro doesn’t feel right tho.
yeti is a bit harsh to my ears.
Got mine yesterday and it sounds amazing. The only issue I have is that the playback audio, through the headphone port on the mic, has this weird sound that only happens when any audio is playing. It will stop right after there is no sound playing. But it's not a problem with me since I will eventually get a audio interface or I could just plug my headphones directly into my motherboard audio out. Had to add an extra edit and say that my experience with my Yeti pro is with Ubuntu Linux. Not sure what Windows will do when it requires a driver for the USB.

@@carabelatech If you can spend the money on an audio interface and XLR cables, then yes because you will get overall better audio quality. For example, Behringer UMC204HD has dual XLR in so you can make use of all of the audio patterns, but I have only seen reviews of it and haven't used it yet. The built in USB on the Yeti pro is still pretty good compared to most other USB microphones so you can get by using it that way as well.

@BoothJunkie maybe you may have a suggestion for me or any booth Junkie subscribers. I am building my little home for recording vocals, acoustic guitars etc...and produce music. I use Logic Pro x (latest version).
I own the Yeti Pro (went from a Samson Meteor, to a regular Yeti, to a Pro, to a Shure Sm7B into the DBX 286s), and I never considered it a bad microphone. Roommate uses it now.
Its way better here than your other review on it, but I would probably still go with the Lewitt. The yeti has a weird thing going on in the high end i think, you could EQ it out obviously, but the lewitt sounds nicer on its own. I dont think the Yeti is bad, i think people just think its cool to hate it
Ethan Carpenter of course it's a decent mic. Haters of the Yeti (me included) actually hate that buyers of the Yeti think they're getting a great mic when for the same price (or less) they coulda gotten something much better. We don't hate the Yeti, we hate the attitude of those who buy it. Why did you get an average Blue mic when you had the money to buy something greater from AKG, AT or Rode? It is Yeti buyers that want to be cool, not its haters.

Well I know when I bought them I was looking at places like guitar center or Sam ash, where the only usb mics they had were the meteor or the yeti. And I didn't know much of other brands. So when I bought it it was simply a matter of not knowing anything and going by what the store had.
When I give advice to some people who have a low budget I still usually say just try to find a used yeti. Since they go for like 50 to 70 used. But if they have more of a budget I say get a cheap behringer interface and decent mic, sort of what Mike said in the video.

I also never said the mic was cool or people wanted it to be :P I said I think people think it's cool to hate the yeti, which I don't really get. But I also decent behringer audio, bugera amps, and positive grid plugins when there are a ton of people the hate them too, when they have good products.
Although I do think the different patterns are a cool feature on the yeti.

I've had my Yeti Pro for about six months. Sounds fine in usb mode but makes my voice tinnie in xlr mode. I'm a newbie so I don't know if it's the mic, or the preamp (presonus 96 usb), or if I'm doing something wrong.

I use a blue yeti pro and a shire sm7b and I like having a mic that is very quiet and if you turn down the gain in general you the blue yeti is dead silent unless you have the hain pretty high plus I have a pair of pretty loud high quality headphones and I couldnt hear much from the blue yeti pro at max volume on my desktop so it's fair to say most people wont be able to hear a hiss from just youtube and for what it's worth the blue yeti pro does sound very nice although the price is not ideal but with black friday coming up and the ga r that you cant fi d this mic for like 200 bucks it's a pretty good value

Hey Mike, I'm trying to get the Yeti Pro to work with my Zoom H4NPro. When I turn on the Phantom Power (48V), it screeches with loud feedback. What am I doing wrong? Sorry for the newbie question.

This christmas my family knows how crazy I am about audio I got a Dbx 286 a focusrite 2i2 3rd gen a cloudlifter and a sm7b and a hd58x jubilee from massdrop and that for me is the best highest quality audio setup for just under 1000 dollars if you are trying to be serious about audio without paying thousands of dollars that's the best setup for you

I think the yeti is more quiet than the Lewitt but the Lewitt sounds better. Yeti has too much on the high end. That being said, I would own yeti for my podcast simply because of its versatility.
I need some help. I've got a rode nt1 and I've been trying to get auditions done etc but whenever I record my voice and listen to it back, it sound like im talking in a bathroom or a open room which I'm not and even when I surround myself and the microphone with padding so stop any possible echoes, it till happens. Is this because of my headphones and speakers or is my microphone messed up or do I have it set up wrong? I could really use some help because if I'm auditioning and what I hear is what the clients hear then I'll never get a VO gig
I got the yeti pro for 160$ it was new open box. For that price i think it was worth it. Especially looking at the patterns. I have used the blue for video game streaming. But i plan on using it for voice overs whenever i get a mixer. So it worked out really well.
When streaming a game the sound of the game covers the hiss (except when it sounds as bad as it did in the past video with the hideous xlr hiss)
I had some trouble making sure my microphone didnt bang around and i have never used my mic with xlr so im a little worried that whenever i do get a mixer this might happen.
This isnt exactly related but my headphones also can do wireless or analog studio level so my entire set up will be. Consumer or professional in a weird way.
Probably better off with the next $100 XLR mic available
Great Video!! Thanks Pal! Yeti Pro sounds great for what it is. I love that it's a fast tool for use. Meaning, that it sits on my desk and I can move fast if I'm writing/creating. I have great mics, but watching go through the changing all the mics out is sorta why I like the convince of being right there on your desk and it looks classy.

They're both so bright, but the sibilance in the Lewitt is grating. This new Yeti does sound better than the previous one but the noise on the Lewitt is pretty loud too.

I liked the sound quality of the LCT a lot better than the Yeti for the few seconds he actually addressed it. He was mostly talking into the Yeti when he was switching back and forth. The Yeti sounds too "in your face" for me. It almost has an aggressive sound. I had the plain USB Yeti, and I had to built a shock mount for it by hanging it upside down from something. It was crazy. The other one doesn't look like it would be easy to find a shock mount that works with it, either. These companies really do themselves a disfavor by not thinking about this stuff ahead of time. I know there are shock mounts that work with the Yeti, but they are expensive. You could get a real mic and an interface for the price if of either Yeti plus a shock mount.

Not going to lie. Even for for voice over work I rather get two SM57's for the price. Having one backup or using it as stereo pair.
You get a 50 dollar budget left to get an interface that sounds better than the yeti.
I hate the muddiness of the sm57, sounds so muffled, lacks of high frequencies, the blue yeti sounds clearer

HELP!!! so i got a Focusrite Scarlett soloStudio Pack mk2 about 4-6 months ago and for some reason my pc is all of a sudden thinking there is almost no volume but my audio interface works fine and the mic works fine... was wondering if you or anyone elce has had this problem as i am new to audio interfaces, the last time i used one was in collage in my music tech class and that was ages ago. i'm getting started in voice over and podcasting, and have the options of a blue yeti and blue yeti pro, both second hand for $100, which do you recommend, at least till i save for a professional mic.

I got a Blue Yeti Snowball Ice for free and it works for me and what I'm doing right now. Sounds way better than gaming headset mics, even ones $300.
Glad to see you do this follow-up. The Yeti Pro wouldn't be my choice for a microphone, but it performed very well when I used one (owned by a collaborator) for a project (figure 8 and omnidirectional polar patterns), and I didn't have any complaints or experience any abnormal line noise or hiss like you did in the previous video. I think if you need all of the features it offers it's a good option, but if not, there are better choices. Blue makes great microphones, and the Blue Baby Bottle is my all-time favorite voice mic.
