I have the blue yeti black edition and I love it. The fact that there is so much to chose from with one mic, and you can just plug it straight in your computer / phone (if you have a dongle) is just incredible. I would definitely recommend the blue yeti to any beginners just starting youtube or streaming.

By far the best mic review I've seen after spamming them for a day straight.
I like that you popped in and said that those other 2 mics not being tested were better suited, though I think everything did sound fantastic.
The guitar jamming was my favorite test, and was just pleasant to hear in the first place.

I use a Yeti for podcasting in a room without much soundproofing. I have the gain turned almost totally down and got the damn thing off the table and on a mic stand. Every problem is pretty much solved.

yeah and for recording for youtube videos and streams, just turning up the volume in recording software and raising the gain on the microphone itself will make the audio much better sounding.

Thank you for a nice and concise review of these three. I totally agree with your choice. Essentially the Pro trio costs about twice as much for just offering better bit depth and higher sample rate roof. However, most users would never need anything beyond 48 kHz, which is a useful SR for video content. In terms of bit depth, yea, it would be nice to get 24 bit sound, but not for this price tag. Additionally, with your voice tests Original and Pro versions sounds almost identical to me, while I noticed a better sounds from Pro when you played the acoustic guitar. Considering, most people, including myself are using Yeti for voice-related recordings, and most of the time for spoken word, this little advantage in terms of sound quality will be never heard.

I use the Yeti Pro for recording choirs using it's stereo pickup pattern. The only criticisms I've gotten from people who have heard my recordings with this mic is that they sound too good and show up the flaws in some of the choirs performances. I've also used the original USB Yeti which is what convinced me to buy a pair of the Yeti Pro microphones. The original Yeti is now in a friends private voiceover studio. Thanks for the comparative review.

I love the review You did for Behringer xm8500 and bought it from Amazon for myself, along with a scissor stand and other stuff, after my "gaming headset" broke and I was frustrated to find something that would not cost $100+ and break in two years at the same time. Today I have completely forgotten about the time when I had to suffer because other people would would complain that they hear metallic-hissing-noise and all other issues when You are using devices that are sold as "gaming" or "desktop" solutions. At some point a band was short of microphone for the performance I have no idea what it was, and I offered them to take mine as a joke. They took it and said it was perfect to record his growl and interview. Thank You for Your channel, it is entertaining and actually useful to make a proper shopping choices :) I remember I was actually looking in to buying Blue Yeti Pro (because it has xlr, etc) but I had a chance to test a Razer Seiren X and I noticed how good it is in picking up all the noise in the room and all the acoustic details of my room and I was 100% sure from that moment that this type of microphone will not do me good. I figured out that if I choose to go with expensive, high quality microphone, I will need to pay for additional sound filtering/editing hardware and to soundproof my room and risk getting actually worse quality sound in the end, in comparison with, if I just buy that cheap Behringer XM8500. I am using it with a professional USB sound card with XLR input though.

I bought the nano for streaming video games because I found it used for 50 dollars on amazon and couldn't pass up the opportunity for it haha! it's genuinely a really great mic and I'm already so thrilled about it!! I figured it'd be good for streaming on twitch because I stream in my quiet bedroom in my quiet apartment, and it's a pretty high quality mic!
Thanks for the awesome review!! It's what got me interested in the blue yetis! I KNOW you said it's not recommended for video games streaming, but when I saw this ordinarily 100 dollar mic for 50, I had to go for it haha! • @Vazhaspa
    @Vazhaspa 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

The point is that Yeti-Pro has XLR port. However a word of caution: The USB-2 (on the Yeti) might not talk properly to USB-3 on new computers (e.g. Apple Mac). The problem has resolved on the part of Yeti by introducing a new generation (2016) which can be only recognized by word "USB" under the USB port. So if you have the older one, you have to use a powered USB port (such as Belkin) {*The hub supports USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 connections. } ... Price-wise, one can get a nice 2nd hand Yeti-pro on ebay much cheaper, otherwise: 1-Audio-Technica AT2020 USB ($130).
    2-Blue Yeti ($120) Yeti Pro (~250)
    3-Samson Meteor ($70)
    4-Rode-NT ($170)

I use the Blue Yeti Pro for professional recording of Choirs (stereo mode), crowd and audience (stereo mode), as well as an acoustic drum overhead (stereo mode) and spoken voice recording (cardiode, stereo, figure 8. Depending on requirement at the time). I started with the original Yeti (USB) but , as a professional recording engineer, immediately wanted to do more with it. I wanted to feed it through a console and combine it with other mics to create full professional recordings. I actually contacted Blue and asked if they manufactured a USB to analog stereo output interface. They told me "not at this time" but the person I was communicating with suggested I check back in 3 months. I did and 3 months later I purchased my first Yeti Pro (I now have two). My original Yeti USB is used by a friend who does voice over work across town. Fantastic mics for the price. The classic Neumann stereo mic was around $10K. Now ???, will there be a Yeti X 'Pro' in the future.

The review was fair albeit somewhat subjective. One big feature that only the Yeti Pro has, that you made no reference to is it's XLR capability. That is what made the extra cost of the Pro worthwhile for me. I intend on using it in studio for voiceovers, sweeps and bumps. I also got a Blue Compass mounting arm, Radius III shock mount and a Gator pop screen. I plan on trying it out on a mobile DJ gig to see how it likes that setup. If it doesn't work as well as I expect, I can always go back to my old reliable SM58. I'll let you know.

  • @MehtheLlama

here's my opinion: If you just want the cardioid mode with good specs the yeti nano is the way to go but if you want more pickup patterns then get the yeti pro because regular yeti is priced more than the nano so it would be a waste to get something lesser quality. And plus it has xlr support if you're into that (but if your not gonna use the pickup patterns on the pro and are gonna buy an interface get an NT1 it has better specs). If you want more pickup patterns but can't afford the yeti pro get the regular yeti. Every version of the yeti has the same frequency response graphs, just different specs. The regular yeti has lesser quality specs than the nano and pro.

From what I understand you cannot say objectively which mirophone is the best because it depends on your needs. But seeing this video I would buy the blue yeti nano since the microhone that I am using is worst that any microphone that I have seen, for example the Behringer c-1u is better than my mic. Also Blue Yeti Nano is the best for me at this period since I do not have a lot of money. Thanks for making this video. I am watching your channel from the day tthat I watched one of your videos, I actually found your channel recently but your channel is one of the good channels, meaning that your videos include quality and you test the microphones fully so that we can understand if a microphone does worth to buy it or it does not worth. I think a good argument for the Yeti is the Stereo feature. There is simply no easier way to record decent-quality stereo on your computer. My wife is a complete newbie at audio; I want one of these so she can record her music performance, while maintaining a pleasant separation between her guitar & voice. I'll just get a stand or boom that will hold the mic on its side, to keep the guitar channel pointing down and vocal channel pointing up.

Great review and I would agree, only I purchased the Yeti Pro mostly because I had a Dell $200 coupon for my workstation purchase I made, and Dell is selling all these mics so only paid $50 plus tax for my Blue Yeti Pro... Looking forward to it to arrive soon. I play the saxophone, so this should be fun... Again thanks for the review and great presentation

I came here because my blue yeti (original) broke, for no odd reason, and it stopped working completely. Now I was thinking a lot of it has to do with the cord, or just were it plugs it, hearing that blue yeti(s) Typically break easy, and so I thought "Hmm, Maybe I could either go with the yeti nano ($99) or back with my old one ($129) or maybe some other mic, But I was just trying to see the difference between the 2 mainly, and to me the nano and yeti, sound pretty dang close, So I do thank you for helping me out there buddy, and stay good my dude!

I dont have a professional environment but a simple noise gate in OBS gets rid of any keyboard sounds and I'm quite happy with my Yeti pro.

It is crazy to hear the slight differences, though seems there is a smaller jump in quality from the original to the pro. The nano to original has a larger different in audio quality... and you can really hear this in the video!

The reason I've been considering the Pro is because it offers the XLR connection. For podcasting that might not matter, but for music it might. What comparable microphones offer both USB and XLR connections?

Pro for me: it seems to have more acoustic air and spatial information (24-bit signal no doubt), which makes it more natural. Sounds good with voice, leckie guitar and acoustic guitar.

I think the standard Yeti actually sounded better than the Pro. And the Nano just sounds thin and tinny... definitely not worth the $100 price tag.

I think the pro is a little bit better for what you're paying for because it has better converters. As for the frequency response coloration, they are all the same.

lol the audio boost is just lower with the nano this is why you think its "thin and tiny" the specs are the same.
