I grew up in a family where my mother had a routine for each day of the week. Monday laundry Tuesday groceries Wednesday Clean house, etc. She kept this routine for almost 60 years. She's 94 now.

I love this!!! Oh how I wish all of our technology & information sharing was around 25+ years ago when I first became a mom. Growing up, Saturdays (ALL DAY LONG) were for cleaning & Sundays were for church. We only ever had late Sunday afternoon as down time during our busy weeks. I just went along with what I knew when I became a mom. My 15yr old just asked me last night if it would just be easier to do a few things each day so weekends could be for fun!! 💡So we start today so we can play first thing Saturday!!

Check out The Organised Mum Method. You never clean on weekends (laundry and dishes only) and it's 30 minutes a day. Sounds impossible but once you're in the routine it's truly life changing!

Great to have your teen suggest the shift! My daughter / son-in love write a little chore list daily for the kids at home (11 and 17). At 23, My oldest granddaughter started her own cleaning and organizing biz!
My best housemate experience was at a retreat center where we 3 worked and had 2 days off midweek. We had a chore chart, and at one of our house meetings, Ray suggested we do our chores first thing on our 'Saturday,' to have the rest of our time off free!
We were each responsible for daily maintenance of shared areas, so it really didn't take long!

We started what we call “10 minute tidy up” as part of bedtime routine when the kids were little and it was the best thing ever. We let everyone pick one song and set a timer for 10 minutes and everyone jumps in and does as much as we can do in that time. As soon as we’re done we do cuddles and off to bed. Sometimes it’s a struggle to keep it going, but it’s so worth it.

I think that’s so awesome your husband and son went camping together! Such a bonding activity. This is random, but I got a horrible splinter when I grabbed the top of a wooden bird feeder a couple months ago. The splinter was so big and deep I literally was crying, and I couldn’t get it with a tweezers like I normally can. I remembered an old trick to take a raw slice of potato and hold it on the finger for about 20 minutes. It’s called a poultice, and it draws water out of the skin. I took the potato off, and it had almost sucked or drawn the splinter out with no pain at all. A tip if you ever get one. Now I wear gloves whenever handling wood!

Raw potato slices work great for spider bites too! Just keep it on for up to 12 hrs then change for a fresh new slice.
I read abt a guy who did this for black widow & brown recluse bites he was always getting from work & it helped him improve & even impressed the Dr.

I took this advice to heart and set up a Daily/Weekly/Monthly check list on the app Out of Milk. It has literally changed my life. I also struggle with ADHD and being able to check these things off every day is like a little dopamine kick in my ass that I need to keep going. My house is CLEAN!!! I can see the bottom of my sink!! My bathtub has no ring!! There IS a bottom to the laundry basket; who knew?!?!? I freaking love it. THANK YOU for breaking this down in a way that I can understand. It really has helped immensely. Iv'ee learned that chores are a cycle. No beginning; No end. Just where you are in the cycle and checking things off as you go. Whew. What a game changer.

Great video! I have been diligently doing dishes and tidying every night for the last 8 months. It has made such a difference in how I feel about my house! I always felt like my house was “dirty” and not ready for company because of how long it would take me to pick up, organize and clean. Now I stay 15 minutes away from having a clean house at any given time. Also, I am team hotel all the way!!!

Two main things: first, your routines are key for the second thing, allowing your husband and son to go backpacking on the weekend. Doing daily and weekly routines not only makes you feel good but allows your family not to feel guilty that they are not helping you around the house on the weekend.
As for "backpacking" because that's what they did (not car camping or day hiking) but several days living out of your pack - good for your husband to plan and plan and plan. You want to "be prepared", not overpack, so that takes time to figure out what you need for food, shelter and water on your trip. Oh and the ever important: how to 💩.
When my daughter was in middle school, me, and the 2 girl scout leaders took her and their 2 daughters on a 9 mile, 3 day backpacking trip to the Ozette Triangle in the Olympic National Forest in Washington State. We hiked 3 miles each day to pitch a tent to camp, made our breakfast/lunch/dinners and had to filter water at some point. The second night our campsite is closed in by the ocean high tide and there is no way out until low tide. Planning and timing is key. From the shore, we encountered sea lions, watched whales feeding, one girl got stung by hornets (had to administer 1st aid). We traveled over sand, climbed rocks, waded in tide pools, and swung on swings. Oh yes, shoveled holes and found slopes to go on (cause that's what girls have to do.) Since that trip, I have done car camping and our last Girl Scout outing was glamping in a Yurt. It's an experience I will never forget. Not sure I would want to do it again; getting too old and I like hotels too much.

I've had a routine for years, but Friday was my playday for shopping or other outings by myself or with friends, with the weekend free for family. . Now that my husband is retired and wants to help, he has his chores on certain days. He's happy with that. YAY! Friday, I try to still keep that as our free/playday to go on a day trip or to a fun event. Saturday is usually at home and Sunday is Church and family. It works for us.
About camping, when I was young, I was a girl scout so real camping was fun, though we always a toilet nearby. Now, it's in a camper with a hot shower, super comfy bed and great kitchen. Glamping is Wonderful! 😊

Fantastic routine! Definitely need to get more routine in my life! Especially in the summer! We get SO lazy! Then I spend ALL day Sunday doing laundry! Yuck!! What an awesome trip Joe and Milo took together! Making amazing memories! My camping started with a tent, progressed to a pop up camper, and now a smaller hard side camper. We love it! Semi "glamping" really because I'm not about to dig a hole! My husband and his buddies usually go to an "island" (it's in Michigan, nothing tropical!) and although they can take a pontoon boat over with everything aboard, it's 100% primitive! Made a Home Depot "toilet", complete with seat! To go along with the shovel and TP "holder"!! NOPE!! Not for me!! LOL!! To each their own I suppose!!

She said she absolutely wanted to sleep in a tent, So I inested in all kinds of things and we stayed on a camping in France...... for 1 night....... `Mum, I am not a tent person, I hate the buggs....... So the rest of the time we stayed over night in a hotel or B&B.....(thankfully 😂).

I used to love camping as a Girl Scout when I was a kid-- far more than I enjoyed selling the cookies to raise the money to go! (It would probably be a lot harder for me to "rough it" now as an adult.) Your daughters might actually really enjoy camping with their dad, too.

Evelyn, if your clothes washer has a delay start it is a game changer. Try doing one load of laundry a day by putting the clothes, towels, etc. in before bed, setting it to run in the morning so it’s finishing as you wake up, and then you put everything in the dryer so you can fold or put things away before you leave for work. Little tricks like that make all the difference.

Before we had kids, my husband and I backpacked a lot. I actually loved it! My oldest (16) went for the first time earlier this month and enjoyed it. My husband and I are old enough that we have a hard time sleeping on hard ground anymore though so we got a travel trailer a couple years ago. (We do also enjoy staying in condos for most of our vacations though. Soft beds and a swimming pool! 😁)

Thanks for sharing this one! I’m moving into a new home soon, and am excited to start fresh! That means keeping things nice and tidy. A weekly routine like this would be great to keep my weekends free. When my daughters were younger, we would spend our Saturdays cleaning. We would turn up the music and start picking up and everyone got busy on a chore. I don’t have that same routine in place for my sons. Friday evenings when they come home after school would be a perfect time! Everyone is in a good mood on Fridays, right?? Lol! 😂
I can camp out in any type of location because I do like camping. Although given the choice, I’d totally choose a hotel on the beach as my vacation spot, over a camping trip any day!! 😂

I need to get into a routine. I used to have one many (many, many) years ago. I feel better when I have a schedule.
I don't understand the allure of camping. My dad was a major hippie and I grew up on essentially camping full time on mountain tops in Northern California. I noped away from that lifestyle as soon as I could and never looked back. Been there, done that. I never want to deal with digging holes or outhouses ever again. The closest I'm willing to get to camping is in an air conditioned RV with it's own bathroom. It's nice to know I have survival skills if I need them, but no.

At 70 the shoulders aren't as tough for backpacking anymore and I'm not feeling as comfortable being a female alone out there as much. Oh, the rivers, mountain trails and just the sounds of the forests are heaven to me. Yes, Cas, I'm almost ready to go on the next one at 75. BTW the gorgeous trails up in your country around Banff and Jasper are breathtaking.

Loved these tips, I’m grateful you shared. This weekend we will have completely emptied our storage unit. What a huge waste of money. It was 90% of clothes of mine. I still have a ways to go but, I’ve got some good steps down. Always make my bed, now doing the kitchen daily. It makes me happy to be in my kitchen as it gets more organized. Btw I love to cook. And it’s my dance party room lol. I could go on, I just appreciate your videos so much...planning now then off to get groceries.

There is nothing more freeing to me than carrying everything on my back and just going! I crave simplicity. Stripping everything down to the bare essentials helps me see what's truly important for me in terms of function, health, comfort and beauty. For me it's an antedote to the modern world. That said, I have learned that, for me, even more than a toilet a warm shower is everything!
No judgement though! That's just me!

I always put off cleaning and laundry until the weekend because I worked outside my home. Grocery shopping was all I could handle during the week in addition to daily dishes. I was really tired at the end of a work day and then cooked dinner and cleaned the kitchen. I also had yard work and keeping up the car because I was a single mom and though my kids helped, it was really up to me to keep it all together. Not complaining, just saying it can be tough to get it all done during the week when the bulk of your day is spent outside your home. But even getting some chores done during the week, if not all, was better than having all of it to do on the weekend. 🙂
