Really enjoyable session Liam, could hear all the knowledge of a lifetime fishing in yr narration, just the kind of session I anticipate but never seems to come to fruition.
Ahh This Video brought back some great memories. Used to love fishing that spot 10 years ago when I lived down that way, Only I would fish the other side on the rocks for Bream. Great Video mate. Anyone would be happy with a couple of those flatties after a small land based sesh. 😉
You live in a great part of the world Liam, I just got back from a fishing trip working my way up from Yamba to Hervey Bay. Caught some great Flathead in some incredible water. Think I left a little piece of myself on that coast, back in Melbourne now but I can’t wait to do it again. Unlimited options, and too much fun to be had!
I just got back from a hol up in Yamba/Iluka myself caught a few fish, some Bream, a few G.T’s mainly found a spot I dubbed “The Boats” the local harbour where you could fish around moored boats and jetties, threw a few Daiwa Double Clutch, great times.
as my dad used to say before I lost him, you have 100% more chance of catching a fish if you go fishing. you can't expect to catch fish sitting at home. and also can't expect to catch every time, otherwise it would be called catching, not fishing...
GOOD vid matey, keep an eye out for those River Rats one hit me up the Nerang Rv, about a year ago he had the nose that high while driving he couldn't see me, so while holding him off the floor of his boat, wondering weather to drown him or just smack him, My Wife said nooo, and he wouldn't stop crying i decided to let him go,very lucky young fella.. Nice flattie mate Cheers Chris
The flatties are definitely on me dad and I were out today chasing flatties down near the spit on the mint sandbanks landed about 14 and dropped around 5 at the boat all good sized ones to 45 to 55cm
Hi mate wonderful vid today i tryed fishing in the exact same spots as you with pilchards but had no luck what plastics where you using? And can you make a vid on how to fish with plastics please
Time of year and tide phase help there. Weed growth washing through can be a problem on big tides. I was using 3” Gulp Shrimp that day and I have heaps of videos demonstrating how to use soft plastics on my channel mate.
Looks for accessible flats with broken ground and a bit of current mate. I honestly picked these spots from the last few vids at random and caught. Can’t be that hard if I can do it.
Choosing the right weight jighead to suit where you are fishing helps with snags. Having a feel for the baits and hopping it soon as it hits the bottom alleviates this problem. No sinker as the jighead has the weight incorporated into it.
Liam could you recommend some land spots on the Goldie? I’m from central Qld and have no idea where any good spots are on Gold Coast. Never have fished south of Woodgate
Mate just pick a spot and go. I don’t normally fish land based down there but cos I’m between boats I’ve been giving it a go. I’ve never fish this spot before, I just looked at google and went. Plenty of spots to try mate.
yer top water i love the asari range 50 mm sinking came out in2015, caught heaps of fish with these called tomei minnow weight 3.2g one of the best i have used. line in 3lb sunline called fine float dia 0.205mm.. marina runaway bay picked up a nice bream 512mm yer and have pick. got it on yellow white belly one.. but top water now some lures cost 25 bucks each back then 2015 asari cost 11.00 bucks.. lol.
What time of the day and do u know what bait is good for flattys? Im comin to gold coast soon but got no idea what bait lures or anything to use so tryina watch some youtube Great vid mate, keep up the work.
Yeah they are a bit of a hit and miss species on plastics from my experience. Caught some proper big ones in the past but find topwater to be more consistent for numbers mate.
I’m so shit at fishing, been out 4-5 times for 4-5 hours at a time and haven’t caught anything. I will continue learning and continue trying, I will not give up.
@@LiamFitzpatrick I’m having fun learning to fish, went again today and got a few hits. Been using hard body lures but might switch to soft plastics and give them a crack. It’s good fun and I’ll get there eventually 👌
dont u find that braid is excessively heavy? i use 4lb braid to a 8lb leader, only used the combo last weekend for the first time but it handled well on a legal flatty and moses
Not at all mate. The 10lb stuff I use these days is as thick as the 4lb I started off using 20 years ago. It’s fine for everything I do. Only time I go lighter is for flats fishing for whiting when I want maximum distance with light lures.
Nice Fitz..🤙🏽Im chasing MJs,still O but in trying,Im picking up or was in the warmers mths, my fair share of Lizards which im never going to complain about. The lads were calling me the Flatty King. At the start it was ok but now its more like their puttin shit on me.. Buggers... But i love it..catchin anythings better than 🍩 aiy.?! Keep it up mate like like love the vids bruz.
Which spot is it? I am looking for some good fishing spot on land (better be jetty) because my foot just hv surgery and i want to do sth to kill the time. 🙇♂️🙇♂️
Really enjoyable session Liam, could hear all the knowledge of a lifetime fishing in yr narration, just the kind of session I anticipate but never seems to come to fruition.
Mate just do what I do and it will happen. I’m not doing anything special.
Good on ya Liam. Great to see you getting into a few nice flatheads :)
Cheers fellas.

Yeah I was stoked with the results mate.
Got some mates coming up for a sesh. Is that round runaway bay?

Mate no offence but Melbourne sucks. Na I’ve got some good mates down there and plan on fishing it someday. Few species I need to tick off.
where in yamba did you fish mate?
Great session bud some great hints and tricks Gotta love the rude people on the water 😂
Yeah some people aren’t paying attention and others choose not to mate.
Nice job Liam! Those flatties are certainly on the chew.
Yeah there’s plenty about this time of year mate.
Good video Liam! The flathead are definitely out and about at the moment!
Yeah I need a boat so bad.
@@LiamFitzpatrick amen I feel ya pain. The canoe with the electric can only go so far 😭
Love the landbased flattie fishing, makes me want to fish again after the countless amount of donut fishing sessions in brisbane
the three meter flattys like baked potato...

@@joeprinsen1717 Thanks for the motivation, I'm sorry about your dad
New to your channel Liam and loving your style of production. Tight lines.

Not a bad spot down there. Quiet little beach areas in that area. Some good cafe's too
No time to eat when ya fishing mate.

Yeah I’ve seen em bouncing the bow off beacons and jumping each other’s wake and doing super dumb shit before. Recipe for disaster mate.

Yeah mate it’s definitely flathead time.
Good stuff mate, some good fish, way better than I have done there. lol
I wasn’t doing anything special mate. Now’s the time for it I guess.
I was at that exact spot on Friday afternoon man it’s not a bad spot at all. Great work mate
You get any big girls mate?
No I didn’t the wind was horrible
But I will try again
All we can do mate.
Yeah that’s it
Well done enjoyed that 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Cheers brother.
Love the videos keep it up legend!
Thanks mate.
Also, great video!
Has inspired me to pull out my plastics again. Still trying to get my first top water fish for the year
What species are you targeting mate?
Anything that will bite but a legal flatty would be dope
Big bent minnow or the likes of you want a flathead on topwater mate.
Nice mate! Yeah $50hr to fly around on a jet ski pissing fishos off not a bad gig hey 🤣
Not my preferred job but someone’s gotta do it apparently.
that seconed fish was just an absolute monster
I can’t remember it now, I’ll have to rewatch it mate.
Cheers for the support mate.

Yeah mate. Heaps of land based options on the Gold Coast.
Where is the best land based locations for Flathead in Gold Coast? It’s so hard for me to find on Gold Coast

@@LiamFitzpatrick im going to broadbeach. Is that good for flatty or whiting.
Im not to sure.
Whiting on baits around the place mate. Flathead on lures is my preferred technique. Best thing is google maps, pick a spot and check it out.

Goodluck with the vids

Run out around the neap tides makes things a bit easier mate.

What type of plastic fish was that? Do you use any fish smelling paste to put on it???
That was a Gulp 3” Shrimp and they have a built in scent so no need to add any to this bait.
No swimming enclosures were harmed in the making of this video 😂😂
Not this time round mate 🤣
comment day 1 love the vids
