- In this video I'm on the Gold Coast doing a little bit of land based fishing chasing our bread and butter species. Casting lures around likely spot for bream and flathead is such an easy way to encounter a few fish and when the winter days are calm and warm it's such an enjoyable way spend your day. We fish a variety of locations from sandy beaches to man made structures and lakes using soft plastics and creature baits. When your catching fish with a good mate it's hard not to have a laugh and soothe your soul at the same time.

Yeah you need to sort that out mate. So much more you could go fish.
That pontoon has some massive bream under it they were chasing a small prawn, Went swimming there a couple of years ago was shocked at the size of them at least 45 to 50 cm.

Yeah as much as any land based spots mate.
Had a cast in that enclosure one arvo. Hooked 5 flattys ... they definitely get stuck in there
Yeah I found out the hard way that it’s a no fishing zone the other day when a male Karen ripped it up me. He took my photo so I filmed him. Pretty funny to be honest.
G'day Liam, what a great vid, fishing spots like that looks like fantastic fun, here in Melbourne I have no idea where I could do that. Anyway I was wondering what were the specs on the Daiwa hyper spinning rod you were using with the 3" plastic for the flatties, I am looking for something a little gutsier than my 1-4kg infeet ex.

Im heading down to the GC this weekend and will be staying near the star. Any recommendations on locations close to there that I can get onto a few flatties?
No idea where that is mate but a quick google earth search will show you a heap of flats worth fishing.
I catch fish right where the star is. There’s canals galore.
Very enjoyable video Liam. I'm useless with plastics. Do you think small hardbodies would have any success in that first area you fished?
Yeah they’ll work. The snot weed in that area would be my concern.

Would you recommend vanford 2500, 10ld braid and a 7” zodias a good combo for flathead/ bream etc. what lb rod?
If you’re only throwing up to 1/4oz the 7’ 5-10lb would be sweet as mate.

Hey mate thanks for the video. Just a question whats the hook size and brand?
Mostly run 1/4oz 1/0, 2/0 & 3/0 in TT mate depending on size of the bait. My spin gear I run light gauge hooks for better penetration.

TT 1/40oz Hidden Weight size 1 or 1/0. Crabby for bream, shrimp for the win 😉

Do you use scent on your plastics ? I'm trying to get into using them, but not getting any nibbles.
Not on water based bio baits like Gulp and Ecogear Aqua unless they’ve dried out a bit. But I’ll put S-Factor or Gulp Scent on anything rubber or hard mate.
@@LiamFitzpatrick Thanks for the quick reply. What about Z-man 2.5 inch grubs ? I was chucking a line in the Tweed over the last couple days and getting no nibbles on the plastic, but plenty on prawns. Didn't hook anything decent of course, just tiddler bream. I have some Gulp mini lobsters, might try those.
You need to keep moving around mate. Bio baits will work better on bream but you have to fish light and close to structure. You can fish heavier for flathead and they aren’t as smart as bream.
@@LiamFitzpatrick Yeah, I'm using a light rig, still on mono, tried a few different spots, and yep, looking for structure. I keep running into crap weather too, when I'm home from work. It's all good fun though.
You’re gunna want to start running braid mate. Mono and plastics fishing is a hard combination.

Mate if you went down there and did what I did you’d catch for sure.
I know I have really bad luck for starters, but I reckon I was doing a lot right. Around structure from bank chucking well presented bait of bread pressed around hook and Zmann Grub in Motoroil W/scent, then fishing out from Pool edge with Cranka Hardbody Shallow Diver with a generous amount of scent, even around hooks. Hardly got a touch all morning. Tides good and water quality quite clear.
Yeah what I find is you gotta keep moving, always have the next spot in mind based on what’s going on at that spot.

Yeah I learned a while ago that people go through shit and you can’t blame them for dumb shit in a moment because you don’t really know what has bought them there. Treat each other like the other has lost everything and everyone and imagine how that feels before you tear em to shreds.

I’m sure I say it in the vid mate, 3” Gulp Shrimp and 2” Gulp Crabby with a XZone Mini Swammer from memory.
