- A 29-year-old Buena Park man was in custody Thursday after leading law enforcement officers on a three-hour chase through Los Angeles and Orange counties before he pulled into a shopping center and ran into a 99 Cents Only store, where he was arrested at gunpoint.
Alexis Avinai was booked on suspicion of domestic violence and felony evading, according to the South Gate Police Department. He was held on $125,000 bail.
Police said Avinai is an "ex-felon on post release community supervision.''
According to police, Avinai was accompanied in the car by his girlfriend, who was treated for unspecified injuries and taken to a hospital in stable condition. Her name was not released.

These chases of cars for multiple hours at insane speeds, does every person who runs from the cops have a full tank of gas and get 40 MPG at 100 MPH?
I'd never run from cops, I would run out of gas in 15 minutes, I usually worry about having enough gas to get back and forth to work until payday.

An 06-07 Accord in good condition gets really damn good gas mileage speaking from experience. I’ve gotten from Dallas to Austin on a single tank. And that’s doing like 70-90 almost the entire way.

I got chased by the Glendale CA Police Dept till I reached my Home. Police all Over my House . To find out I was the wrong CAR. Best excitement I ever had.

It looked like to me that she had some sort of issue with her legs. When she got onto the stretcher her legs looked as if they were still bent, as they were in the car. My wife has cerebral palsy and has limited mobility with her lower extremities. This looks very similar! There’s a good chance I’m wrong, and I probably am. But to me it’s the only thing that I can think of that makes sense.

I am in agreement with you that unless you have been in that situation before you don’t know how to protect yourself. Plus she was being assaulted by her ex. For you to say that she should have done this or that is disrespectful to the victim. Unless you have been a victim of repeated domestic abuse you can’t know how to act or respond. @@derekevans9397 she was most likely in shock and just holding on for dear life. some cars dont have the emergency handles anymore so if i were in a situation where i'm being kidnapped and flying down the road at high speeds, i'd be so stressed and panicked i'd grab and hold onto anything. putting your body in the fetal like position in any situation is a sign of distress and anxiety. in this case you're in a car you cant move around too much, you want to cover your face and protect yourself but at the same time you cant help but be aware of your surroundings and she likely was trying to get him to stop hench why he hit her. you dont know how to react in that situation, you just go into fight/flight mode and shut down. she more than likely saw her life flash before her eyes and thought she was guna die that day, so you cant really sit there in the safety of your home making such a bias assumption about a situation you've never been in. you have no idea what she was feeling,thinking,saying,etc.

Whether someone is “conscious” is not only a question of whether they’re awake but also the degree to which they’re alert, aware of where they’re at, who they are, etc. A person can be walking about but not fully conscious in that they might not know where they’re at, what happened to them, what day it is, what their name is, etc.

If the PD starts shooting at drivers for what ever criminal behavior…the defense lawyers would have a field day. Most of these cases end with very rare public deaths or injuries. So sorry these chases frustrate you but I like public safety for the uninvolved innocent people. The perpetrator is usually running because they have a criminal record and know that they are looking at jail time for a long time hopefully 🙏❤️🙏❤️

By bracing her legs on the dash if they're in a crash she's gonna break both of her legs. Best to keep feet on the floor. I can understand her doing it but just saying.

I can't understand her doing it. It did nothing for her. If she had a seatbelt on, there was no reason to be bracing herself with her legs. It's just stupid.
It might have just been a mental thing. Like they were going so fast that she felt sick so she wanted to stabilize herself a bit more by pushing herself into the seat via her feet on the dash. The actual arm out. I’m guessing the car didn’t have a handle on the inside or she was hoping that her hand out would signal someone or even it was outside so she could open the car door without the perp really noticing. Poor girl. I hope she’s okay.

……………..the cops blew this one, when he drove into that cul-de-sac and was forced to turnaround on himself early on there were enough police cruisers following him that they could have virtually cornered him in with their vehicles. They blew their best chance to bring the chase to an quick end. What's the use of having so many cruisers following if they don't gang up on him. Too many cops with nothing to do, I think. :)
I wondered about that, too. In my mind, the only good explanation would be if they were worried about him being armed and shooting at them if they put themselves right in front of him.
It was a domestic abuse call. Corner him and you have a hostage situation in which she could die. That is what they were trying to avoid. Probably hoping he’d run out of gas, give up, or let her go.
The situation is very similar once he runs out of gas, though, and there he will have more time to think about what to do (which can be good or bad, I guess).
As far as the hostage situation goes, I was kind of confused when at some point she had her foot up on the dashboard and her arm out of the window. The host said that she was bracing herself for an impact, but to me it looked more like a relaxed position, almost as if she was making fun of the entire situation.

It's 100% a good thing. If he runs out of gas he can decide (within reason) where he's going to be when he does. That gives him a false sense of security, gives him the idea that he still has a chance of getting away, which may lead to him leaving the vehicle and running on foot, as he did. If you pit him, box him in, etc, he's cornered. Someone who is cornered knows full well that it's over and they may become desperate in their attempt to escape, potentially putting lives at risk. In a case like this they can't just choose a quiet spot where there's noone around because there's a victim in the car and her wellbeing is more important than bringing him in quickly.

It's hard for the cops to read the VIN numbers during a police chase.
Soon there will be security drones that activate with robberies, threats etc, that can scan vehicles, criminals, and follow them anywhere without the criminals even knowing. People will never get away from these drones in the years to come.
