What's THE One studio you wish you could record at? Rockfield Studios is one of the greatest studios of all time! It recorded most of Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody' and we got to film a MasterClass which you can get here: promixacademy.com/course/rockfield-studios-masterclass-with-warren-huart/
There was a rehearsal place up the road at Woodside as we called it, I think it was part of Rockfield Farm There was a desk in there and I'm sure someone said about it being the one used on the record ( Type of desk alludes me for a moment). It wasn't in working order at the time, I'll ask a bit more about it as I know someone who will know more about it. I was in there rehearsing with my band Novocaine at the time. I did twiddle with it though as I remember being in awe even though it wasn't working. I'm sure the tech Otto was working on something around there at the time maybe it was that.
UK - SARM (Trevor Horn), Real World (PG), Trident (Ken Scott), The Farm (Hugh Padgham, Nick Davis)
US - FAME (Muscle Shoals), Motown, Paisley Park (Chanhassen, MN)
⭐Gold Star Studios where the Wrecking Crew and Phil Spector created the "Wall of Sound." The studio was destroyed by a fire in 1984 and now a mini-mall is constructed on the site. Today people purchase a Philly cheesesteak sandwich and don't realize they're eating on hallowed music history ground.. WHAT A SHAME!!! ⭐However, Rockfield Studios is definitely in my top 10 studios... thanks for another AWESOME video Warren! I'm glad Rockfield Studios is still around... you're the BEST!!! 🎼🎶🎵🎶🎹 🎸
Le Studio, last I heard they were rebuilding it to become an Audio Production School in Canada w/ You Warren on the New SSL Console!!🎛🎚🎚🎚🎚🎸🎧
Thanks ever so much for sharing!@@russangelvery cool recollection
Probably the most stressful/surreal couple of days I’ve had behind a drum kit! Amazing experience and Warren is a class act! Thanks again ❤
Aww you did great
You did an amazing job!! Thanks ever so much!
You smashed it
Yes he did!@@Ottsucks
Marvellous!@@TrevorNokesMusic
Such a great place! I stayed there in 2022 for two nights, just as a guest, and got the full tour of both studios from Kingsley himself! Wonderful storyteller, and his lovely daughters running things. Very much a friendly, family feeling, would love to go there again to record something :)
Thanks for sharing! That's wonderful!
That was a lifetime experiance that i will never forget, Great people and an Amazing Band.
Yes! We had an amazing time! It was great to meet you face to face and chat music and life my friend!
@@Producelikeapro It was also a pleasure meeting you to, great conversations and sureal watching the Documentary in their Lounge at midnight with the whole PLAPA crew.
Yes, amazing times!@@TrevorNokesMusic
Oh maaaan!!! It's one thing to see you in your element, but (knew there was a but coming didn't ya) to have talented people and great composition is heavenly. Fine, fine work all around, I'm hella peanut butter and jealous!! What a freakin groove, and that guitar tone. A little Josh Homme in there.
Wow, thank you! I really appreciate it!
I like the vibe of this place. I see a lot of beautiful studios where I don't think I'd be comfortable. They're too sleek or too modern looking. Or they're cavernous. This is a nice small, homey looking space.
This is one of the greatest studios of all time! It's fully residential!
Have to say, you can learn so much with these classes, I definitely paid attention and took notes, Thanks!!!
Thanks Jack! You Rock my friend!
Just purchased the course - Thanks Warren et al!! 👊🏼🤘🏻
Marvellous! I hope you enjoy it as much as we did making it!
Amazing how knowledgeable this guy is .. thank god I only have to focus on getting something out from my keys :)
Thanks ever so much Lars! I really appreciate it
Bohemian Rhapsody is such a classic, very cool studio!
CLASSIC! My favourite song from my favourite band!
Gonna get this one looks fantastic. Thanks for the preview
Thanks Joey! Hope you enjoy it!
Please do more of these!

Awesome… miss recording bands…. Thanks for the insights to the process. I’m definitely living vicariously.
Thanks ever so much!
Jack is a great engineer/producer really happy to see him here
Yes! Big fan of his!

Dave Charles plays drums on one of my favourite albums .
Marvellous!
Rush - “A Farewell to Kings” and “Hemispheres” were recorded here. Killer records.

Incredible🧡
Yes! Thanks ever so much!
Class ✊️ we recorded a song called lost soul's in 2021 at Rockfield with Nick Brine.
Magical place and kingsley is a brilliant guy!
Thanks ever so much for sharing!
Loved this!❤
Thanks ever so much!

Thanks ever so much
Nice to add you to the greats that have produced there fella. If you are ever over in Germany and want to mess with Singing Bowls and Les Pauls shout me, i could do with your genius. 😊
Thanks ever so much Phil!
I like the thumbs up to click on but we need a 'love it' icon!! Nice work everyone!!!
Thanks ever so much
Just hearing people talking listening to their voices you know its a great place to record.
Marvellous studio!
@@Producelikeapro the part where you were explaining about the angle of the drum kit was very interesting.
I have never recorded a live kit but if I do I will definitely keep that in mind.
@@Andrew-rz7qt thanks ever so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
Has a Muse sound near the end of this video. Have to watch the full documentary of Rockfield Studios.
Documentary is great! Please check out the course as well! It's awesome! promixacademy.com/course/rockfield-studios-masterclass-with-warren-huart/
Great insight day Warren thanks. However I think that when you come to the joiners arms studio, you'll achieve similar results with next to no expensive gear🙄. Relying upon experience to turn a sows ear into a silk purse🤗. Inspired by fabulous Eden valley countryside and salmon fishing.
Also... I remember swapping wishbone 4, for sheer heart attack... Another work of genius 🙏
Thanks ever so much for sharing!
Kingsley Ward,Charles,Pat Moran, and Edmunds etc etc great residential place second only to Headley Grange poorhouse live room...good 'un Warren!
Thanks ever so much Kris!
definitely learned a few new tricks with this video!!
Marvellous!! Thanks ever so much
Warren. I visited THE SAWMILLS in Cornwall last month. Another legendary place. Got a couple of videos about it on my channel
That’s amazing! Thanks ever so much for sharing
Strange to see they've got a spinet series Hammond organ knocking about, whilst most studios have a B3 or whatever at their disposal. I actually kinda like it. The spinet series do sound a bit different to the famous B3 though and some players even prefer the sound of the spinet Hammonds. I like both. Richard Wright used a spinet series for years. Dark Side Of The Moon was the first album he strayed away from them and recorded with a RT (I think?) series Hamnmond organ. He never went back to the spinet series, which's a bit of a shame, I think. Just listen to Echoes live at Pompeii. What an organ sound!! Okay, it's got less bollocks, but it might've more personality. Don't know how else to describe it. Greetings from Wilmer. :)
It’s a great choice! It’s not unusual for studios to use them or the M3 for instance. After all the common misconception is that it is a B3 with a Leslie on Green Onions when of course it was an M3 without a Leslie and just using the internal speaker.
Rewatching this over and over. Were any of those mics used by RTB on his sessions? Essential prep for your much awaited sit down with him. Now you have more context for quizzing the man who fears no bleed on drums.
Most likely! Some of their mics are very old!
Interesting that they say they "battled with the ludwig black beauty" and then changed to the Yamaha recording custom, which is basically in spec a black beauty.
Indeed! That we has much better control of the ring. Also I’d recommend the Pearl Steve Ferrone snare which is also essentially based on a Black Beauty but is easy to control any unwanted ring. It’s a not so secret weapon amongst engineers
Warren, can you please be so kind and show the "John Leckie" cymbal on the floor in more detail ? As I now understand it might be a bit tight with the foot machine ...
Yes! That’s a great idea
Super nerdy video Warren, fabulous, my dream studio. As a Rush fan, to me Rockfield is the sound of A Farewell To Kings. While they did go back they obviously got a taste tor residential studios around the world. Technology got better but is there are better sounding Rush song than Xanadu?
And Hemispheres
Thanks for sharing! Yes, huge Rush fan!
Masterpiece!@@MichProgNerd
That MCI console 🤤
Gorgeous!
For the life of me can't see the name of the band or track and was kind of watching as background viewing. Is it a band or a one off track for PLAP? Sounds amazing!
The Artist is Tom Auton!
Very Queens of the Stone Age. I dig it.
I came to say the same. Mixing that qotsa sound with more mathy stuff really works.
(The last drum fill is a little on the nose but hey, it's cool, haha)
@@celam1244I've gotta be honest, I wasn't crazy about the drummer. Too safe in his choices, would benefit from literally strengthening his chops and his kick placement got wonky at times. But that's just like.. my opinion... man.
@@AnodyneHipsterInfluencer I did my best, just playing what I’m told to play 😂 was an awesome experience. Check out my own band crystalline!
I was thinking the same, it's super kewl. Killer riffs.
It is fairly Queens Of The Stone Age! Ton has a huge amount of genres in his music! It's awesome!
Sick riffs tho
Amazing riffs!
Recording at Rockfield is a dream of mine. One of my favorite records - Dumptruck's "For the Country" - was recorded there in the late 80s. (Not to mention the obvious Queen, et al.).
Also, normally the music in these audio geek demo videos is pretty terrible - but this band (and the song) is really good!
Thanks ever so much Patrick!
You are so lucky to meet "The" Jack Boston
Haha I’ll let him know how lucky I was! He is a wonderful engineer
@@Producelikeapro that combination of MCI. Old Microphone's and rooms has such a distinctive sound!
I hope you enjoyed yourself as much as I do everytime Im there!
Great video. Great session!
Marvellous!@@slacksmeridian Yes, we had a blast!
The three wishes for me would be Rockfield, The Manor, and of course Abbey Road.
All amazing
the working man .
Haha yes, indeed Dan! It's a great course! promixacademy.com/course/rockfield-studios-masterclass-with-warren-huart/
Sorry if I just missed it but who are the band? Big Qotsa vibes. Diggin it!
It's Tom Auton! Link is under the video and here too:-

When Emerick used 4 mics on Ringo...I love this channel...But sometimes as humans we complicate things...How many mics are on that Kit? I lost count!
how many mics do you want on the drum kit ? yes !
When teaching multiple ways to record drums you have to use multiple mics! You can use 1 of the monos, 4 for kit, the rooms only or any combination. I would have thought you understood this is an educational channel?
Indeed@@thisistomorrow3293 when teaching we use all the different mixing techniques available which can be paired in any combination! The course allows people to hear multiple ways of recording Drums!
@@Producelikeapro which mics did you settle for in the end? And was on joshing with ya Warren…!
I recorded them all so whoever gets the course can choose what they want to use!@@gagsmedia
😃💥💖
Thanks ever so much!
Warren: I’m not sure if you noticed the camerawoman, but she’s distractingly lovely.
Haha of course I noticed her! She’s my wife haha
@@Producelikeapro I know. Joking. (About you “noticing her.” Not about her loveliness, you lucky man.)
@@Producelikeapro (I’m five sessions into the course.)
Fabulous! I loved making this course!
Haha yes, indeed! She is quite beautiful indeed
Look at this th-cam.com/video/KMU4biOsJ-w/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Z_GP_EkXvLP_9Ey9. That is the „Wurst“ mic used as the only mic to capture the drums back in 1971 and I‘m sure, this wasn‘t the only time, they used it like this. So that mic is by no means the invention of Moses Schneider or anyone else, who came up later.
I'm not sure anyone claims to have invented it! There's mono micing like that for many years before Focus as well! However, did Moses use a lot and people got the technique from him? Absolutely! Thanks for sharing the video! Love Focus!
You should mix my record so I can have a hit song! Who am I kidding nobody listens to anything but Taylor Swift anyway.
Haha there's plenty of great music out there!
What ever happened to a bass guitar into a DI? ;)
Haha we recorded that as well! In the course you see us blend all kinds of sounds to get an amazing Bass tone, which you can then mix anyway you like! promixacademy.com/course/rockfield-studios-masterclass-with-warren-huart/
To wear a Peaky Blinders hat you need to come from Birmingham really lol 😂 Awesome video though
No you don't a cloth cap was for any working class person. Unlike the bollerhat for middle class or the top hat for upper class.
I am part Irish and if you look up 'Flat Cap' you'll find out it's orgiin is in Ireland!
Yes, indeed!@@Andrew-rz7qt
@@Producelikeapro working class hero✌️
Haha indeed! My Dad was an artist, Painter and sculptor, 5 of us in a 2 bedroom bungalow! Certainly no airs and graces here! @@Andrew-rz7qt
5:52 Aitch, not haitch.
Different accents from different parts of the world!
who are the eight middle-aged guys sitting in the back of the control room?
if they are A&R that's overkill ;)
It’s a MasterClass! We taught the whole recording! It was amazing fun!!
Why is there *10 grumpy boomers* sitting in the background?
Who was grumpy? No one there!
