I remember a few years ago in the Magic community these mystery cubes started popping up. They became popular because the company was putting old commander decks in them (which normally sell for 120 bucks) and the cubes were like 20 bucks. People were weighing them in stores to find the boxes that held commander decks.
However they were like most other things a scam. If you didn’t find one with a commander deck in it they were pretty worthless. And some of them might have had the weight of the commander deck but not necessarily held one. They just jammed extra cards in to make it appear like there was a commander inside.
I found one once and it was all lands.

If you're going to spend money on trading card games, buy the singles you need every time. Open mind, and thinking and internalizing new information is more important than having info. Learning and growing as a professional is a big core part of a career.

Monster boxs are the best of these products. You can often get pretty decent pulls more frequently from it as opposed to the others. Examples: Secret Imperm, 2 secret invocation, ghost neo galaxy eyes photon dragon, etc

The only ones that are worth getting are the monster boxes. It has the packs you get on the back of the box and you are basically buying 10 boosters for 4 bucks each. Also there aren't any battle or star packs

That still kinda blows my mind. I am not even sure i ever saw a repackaged, not konami licened yugioh product in ANY store in germany. Yes some game stores like where you play and can buy singles sometimes have such gimmicky packages but not a real storechain like that where it is professionally repackaged. Feels so weird to see that.

A few parts of this is wrong. The distributor does not buy back the unsold merchandise. It's not really in store inventory at all.
Pay from scan or Pay on scan merch is pretty common. A lot of damaged, partially stolen or old merch gets returned regularly. That's where they get the stuff to fill these packs with.

I've seen those a few years ago and I didn't buy it because there is a fine print on the box somewhere that clearly state that it's just leftover cards and some would be preowned with unknown condition. So yeah, that's when I was like "yep I would shell more money for randoms than unwanted cards".

When I was younger, I collected yu-gi-oh cards. I did spend $500-$1k on some of the earlier sets around 2003-2005. I didn’t have a big collection but I remember buying some boxes from a local card store and not repacks from a large retailer. I foolishly sold my “collection” for cheap and never looked back. Two or three years later I started collecting Magic: The Gathering cards and have just recently stopped collecting but I have several thousand cards and have spent thousands of dollars in that time frame, roughly 14 years. I started watching a few random YGO pack openings on this channel and got the itch again so to speak. I went to Walmart and bought some of the Gold Collection boxes, random power cubes, blister packs and the 9 mystery pack sealed products.
After opening all the packs and checking some pricing on the SR’s, UR’s and foils, I had an idea that most of my cards weren’t worth much except for the non-repack stuff I had bought. To be honest, as a new collector, I just wanted cards again. I’m glad you guys put out this video. I probably won’t be buying any repacks or things resembling them. I never took that risk with MTG and I guess I got careless. Kudos.

Ha, I picked up the Monster Box in the thumbnail today on a whim knowing full well they're subpar packs and likely scaled. Managed a Secret and 2 Ultras from core sets, but notably core sets where nothing in them is worth more than ~$10.00. The Metal Raiders pack had a SR Harpie Lady Sisters though which surprised me...so the Monster Box may not be scaled but are certainly stuffed with near-worthless sets.
Definitely fun to open, never purchase as an investment.

So I bought a couple of these at Target for like $5 a while back.
They can be all right for someone who hasn't played in a decade and wants to play casually with friends.
I pulled an Artifact Lancea from one and it turned out to be a pretty good call against my friends who threw feather duster at me.

Target does the same thing with Magic the Gathering stuff as well. Ever since I found the Demonic half of Divine vs. Demonic in one of the repackaged plastic cubes I've always checked for value there. Funny thing is that I didn't know the Demonic half was in there, I just wanted the original Ravnica Orzhov starter deck that was on one side.

The worst scam are the Dollar Store brand sets. They sound great (I mean cmon, $4 for a box of cards!!!) but if you read the fine print they are repacked sets (aka someone opened, removed any good cards, and crammed a bunch of useless commons in the box). In grand scheme of things they are not even good for your kids starter decks for school since missing certain cards there is no synergy and even sometimes lack materials to even properly summon or just work in general

Years ago around 2005 or so, I had bought one of these products. It was one of those 20 card packs with a random foil.
To my suprise, I got a HALF a starter deck of Kaiba Evolution. Like bruh...
As for a Cube, I bought one of those, got some cool cards, but mostly if not all were worthless. Though I did like my Dark Necrofear.
    These aren't worth it.
