So 3 Things: 1. The Bambino is 11g heavier then the Marlin. 1:23 2. I'm wearing the new Orient whatever it's going to be called. You can get a better look at 12:13 Right now I'm calling it he Mako X. 3. Just The Watch just released a Bambino Comparrison of his own. But comparing a V3 to a Guanqin GJ16034. Check it out: th-cam.com/video/0EeZy3oYYjk/w-d-xo.html
Relative Time - I've seen the new Orient advertised as a Ray 3 on Amazon. I was thinking a nice sailcloth strap might wear well with it. And the black with red dial looks pretty cool to me!
I own 2 Timex watches from the 60s in great condition which I purchased under 60 dollars. They are still keeping great time. You can definitely find the vintage ones out there. Thank you for a great video.
I've had a lot of Timex watches over the years and still have two, so I welcome the prospect of the "return" of the brand as a major player. That said I have a tough time getting excited about the Marlin. To me it looks dated as opposed to classic. And slapping a foreign movement inside isn't doing much to burnish their heritage. Timex was known for their cheap 'n' cheerful in-house mechanical designs- they could 'take a licking and keep on ticking' after all. I fully understand that to design and build a movement in house totally from scratch when they haven't done so in decades might cost a billion dollars and is impractical. But when Timex tries to go upscale it's kind of a situation like the Kia Stinger where even if they hit a lot of the notes right they still seem to get ridiculed for even making an effort. Realistically I'm more interested in the cheaper Timex watches and would be fine with them 'staying in their lane' and leaving the automatics to the Swiss, Japanese and Germans...but that's just me. I wear my Weekender a lot as my work watch (with the addition of a silicone band). It's rugged and cheap enough that I don't have to worry about it.
@@RelativeTime I understand. The Marlin case is nice, but the 8215 movement (a ~$85 non hacking movement) doesn't justify the price nor equal footing with an Orient in-house movement. Orient even signs their crowns now! It is a watch with great value proposition!
I just got an Orient Sun & Moon and I’m amazed by the quality. Orient watches are worth more than what their often sold for. They often look far more elegant than some more expensive watches. A bambino is possibly next on my list.
Well done and spot on. Bambino is by a pretty large margin a better watch. I’d love to see a closer look at the small seconds and/or the gen 5 blue hands. Open heart does nothing for me. I don’t know why but I’d much rather see am exhibition case back than an open heart.
I've seen a few open hearts that I like the look of, but there is something off about the Bambino version. I can't quite place what it is. Otherwise it sounds like most people want to see a small seconds.
Agreed. I think maybe because the cutout is of the balance wheel only and the rest of the dial is kind of plain? There are a couple out there like the Hamilton Jazzmaster that I think pull it off well. I think I just need a bit more than just the wheel to get into it.
The Bambino is a superb watch. The only reason I don't have one is because I've got my Orient Star Classic. However I love that Bambino of yours. It looks very classy. The Timex would be a nice watch to have, but not at that price. Thanks for the comparison 👍
I personally never had a problem with the Bambino watch strap. It was cheap, but I thought it was good considering I paid $100 for the watch. But generally, Timex tends to have pretty good leather straps in the $60-$200 price range. If I had to pick, I like the Bambino despite its case size and lug width. The relative thiness and my experience with them has been great. I've had great experiences with Timex, but I don't like domed acrylic crystals. I don't mind the movement inside the Timex but the date window is utterly useless if it's that size. I have very good, almost microscopic eyesight, and even the window is easy to miss. It's even smaller than the Orient's which is small already IMO (especially on a watch its size). I feel if Timex got rid of the date window it would make it much more compelling for me. The Marlin, if priced around $150-$170 I would definitely consider it over the Bambino.
Without having seen this video prior, I chose that same strap for my Bambino V2 with the crème dial/blue hands. You are correct in stating the new strap does make it look more casual, thus adding to its versatility. I think the horrible straps Orient uses is actually a positive at their price point, their main focus being on the actual watch.
I wish Orient would change Bambino to 20mm lugs, drill the lugs, ship it in a tiny box without any strap and drop the price $15 and let us do our own straps.
True... and I'd buy it, to have, along with my 2nd gen. ver. 2 Bambino silver w/ blue secondhand. He is CORRECT... finding a 21mm leather band I liked was a CHORE!
I think you nailed it. The Bambino looks like the better watch, but Timex has such strong sense of nostalgia attached to it for some people it'd be the preferable option. I vote for the small seconds next, that's the Bambino I really wanted but wasn't willing to pay for as it was brand new and significantly more expensive when I bought my v3. Thanks for mentioning my video!
@@JusttheWatch I knew who you meant :). Must be Bambino week. Don't quite like the video. Hes trying to play devils advocate, and has a few good points. But comes off perhaps a bit too snarky.
I would like to get the timed marlin for one reason. My Dad had one. He put it on a nylon NATO strap army green and it had a white dial very plain and simple with the date. I rember him giving it a couple of winds every morning. And maybe once or twice a month setting it. He had that thing for years. And like I said I remember him wearing that every day going to work to support us me and my mom God bless his soul. When he passed away I inherited the watch. But I can’t remember what happened to it I am extremely upset about that I remember I had it for several years and it was working up until the time we were I must’ve missed placed it . I am going to get the marlin And put it on a medium army green Neto nylon strap. I do think they’re a bit overpriced though they should be about 150 to 175 that would be more appropriate and I think they would sell more. At $250 some people are beginning not to be able to afford it.
I have a soft spot for Timex watches. My first watch was a Timex, as were all of my watches until I was in my twenties. I now have a $60 Expedition with a cream colored dial, and I just love it. I always wanted a Marlin, but never got one, and if they keep on selling for over $250 CDN, I never will. I own a Bambino v4, which is gorgeous, and there are so many Orient watches for far less money that blow away the new Marlin. However, if sanity prevails, and they come WAY down in price, I may have to get one for nostalgia's sake.
That could be true. The pseudo crocodile stock strap didn't quite help either. Although I'm liking it on the new strap, gives it more of a vintage look that I don't mind wearing more casually. Thanks again!👊
The silver-ish Timex Marlin shown in this video was the only watch so far that I was stunned looking at it. No other watch ever had this wow-effect for me. (I guess its needless to say here that I am no watch enthusiast ;) ) So the choice was easy for me. And is for everyone else: Buy the watch(es) you enjoy* *and can afford :)
Take a look at an Orient Star with a silver white dial and blue hands if you want a wow. Or better yet A Ball Trainmaster or a Ball fireman if you don't like a numbered dials.
If you want your father's watch, then your watch is the Marlin. Dad wears the same watch to work, to a baseball game, to mow the yard. He doesn't care or know that it is a "dress" watch. It is in every picture of him. He just owns the one watch. He hasn't ever checked the dial for imperfections, there are probably some scratches from moving furniture anyway. If you want that watch, then your watch is the Timex Marlin.
Its hard to choose between the two so its best to take all both are a good watch. I own an orient watch a day date the accuracy is superb and timex is about the history
I wear a V3 Gen2 with blue dial. I love it. My other watches are much more expensive but the Orient has a place in my heart. The unrefined swing of the pendulum which feels utilitarian and robust, and just how thin it feels regardless of the domed crystal. And as a Bauhaus style lover, it’s perfect for me, especially at the price.
Yah it's a shame. Funny thing it's really hard to see in normal conditions. You have to know it's there and stare while you rotate the watch at different angles to even start to see it. But even though I can't really see it, I still know it's there and it bothers me.
I would normally agree with you about the crystal, but in this case Orient has some of the worst mineral crystal giving the acrylic the edge,(especially since you can buff out the acrylic).
I came to the exact same conclusion. So I recently ordered a Bambino gen2 v2 in rose gold. I’m very excited to receive my new Bambino. I was unfamiliar with Orient until recently, but I’ve heard lots of good things about the brand. That’s for confirming my decision to purchase the Bambino.
I normally don't like roman numerals, but the orient has done it perfectly, all proportions are spot on, giving it a contemporary look despite the roman. Miles ahead of the Timex
I was torn between the silver and rose gold hands bambino V2 and the gold case gold hands. Such a tough decision. But I already have a Vintage Gold Swiss Emporor deluxe 21 jewel handwind watch that my Grandad gave me. So Ive ordered the rose gold hand/ numerals V2. Can't wait! Enjoyed your comparison.
Bambino any day. I wear my bambino gen2 in shirt and shorts. Just like I wear my divers in coat and tie. In my opinion the larger size of the bambino makes it more casual looking than most dress watch... which makes the bambino a more versatile everyday watch.
That is a good point. I think a lot of it for me was the stock strap. The black crocdile leather just didn't look casual, too formal looking for me. The new one I got, not so much.
Love that strap on your bambino. Just went to that site you had listed and ordered that exact strap for my Bambino with a cream colored dial. Should look great. Thanks for the inspiration! 👍😊 Also would love a review on the small second Bambino.
Your welcome, hope you like it. The small seconds seems to be the favorite. Right now I have a couple other Orients to review first, but I'll look at getting one later in the year. I just did my new Orient Diver one, but still have a JDM solar chrono and a Symphony to get to.
great vid and commentary. u hv a calming voice. i already own a g2v3 green bambino. but i have been eyeing this roman bambino gold markers and hands that u have featured here. shall i go for a 2nd bambino or go for an orange mako XL or a blue ray II with rubber strap. hmmmmmm. thanks for this vid❤ also to add, lug width is 21mm right? possible to install a 22mm nato? thanks
Its a good move for timex. But. They need a few things done: 1. Add hacking capability to the automatics. 2. Mineral glass with a veneer of saphire if possible. 3. Improve quality control . Those are a few starting points that will improve the watch.
Absolutely great review! I agree with everything you said. I’m buying my first Bambino soon. I’m gunna buy the gen 2 version 3. I would get the marlin as well if it was 50-60 bucks cheaper or if they but a better movement in the case. I’m probably going to wait a year or so and see if Timex improves upon the Marlin. I still think the Marlin is a nice looking watch regardless.
I'd bet Timex releases some new versions later this year, or at least color variations. Assuming the current ones are successful. Hopefully this is the start of a whole line of automatics from Timex.
Relative Time I think Timex has noticed the dramatic increase in people’s interest with mechanical watches. I’m fairly confident Timex wants a part of that pie
@@RelativeTime Well, the bambino you showed, probably with the white dial. I love the black, but perhaps too flashy. Too bad they don't do beige cream dials...
Even though this was done 2 years ago, I wish to make a comment. I bought the Orient Bambino which reminds me of the Omega Seamaster 1957 also a Seiko Presage Cocktail (without the textured dial), it's a stunning watch. Timex cannot get close to these for quality or looks. The Bambino is above all dress watches in the price range of £1 - £250, if they're not then please let me know so I can go buy it. I much prefer a solid screw on back than a more fragile exhibition back, especially when the movement isn't that great to look at, even if it's a workhorse movement. The Bambino is a highly sophisticated also very highly rated by many, many watch affcianardos. Bless
Thanks for comment, I think you are 100% right about it being the best watch in that range. If you want to spend more your best bet is either a cocktail time, or find a great deal on an Orient Star.
Another well done review. Thank you. I prefer the Marlin but only when it is on sale during Black Friday for the same price as the Orient. Then this is a much closer battle IMHO. I’m one of those that prefer acrylic over mineral any day.
Thanks for your great comparison. I own the same Bambino model as you, the one with the blued hands and the cream dial. For the price point here, you cannot get a better quality automatic dress watch! If Orient were to upgrade their strap quality, it would be perfect! I would love to see you review the small seconds Orient. Keep up the great work!
My favourite form this duel is Timex Marlin. I like this style - I don't have a watch with simply and clear dial like it. If Marlin will get cut the price to acceptable level, I think I can get one with black dial and silver case :) I am not fan of Orient or Seiko. I know it's the best value for money I can get, but I don't like them, 'couse many people have them. So I am looking for something "new", something not popular as much as Seiko/Orient are :)
Right now they are selling at MSRP, and haven't been on sale. But I think they will later in the year. Not sure how much, but might be worth watching. Cheers!
thx for this good review. recently got the bambino "Bauhaus" with grey sunburst dial. About 150.-€ at ama I think. Quality, technology and design is,quite good, even compared to a mid price watch. But personaly for normal sizes I would prefer 36-38mm as a dress watch. Therefore I have to get used to my 40.5mm Bambino. For Flieger and Diver Watches 40mm are suitable than for dressers. In former times they were even smaler, had a nice Omega Seamaster De Ville at about 36mm a dresswatch before I gave it to a famiöy member. That size met my expectations a bit more 😊
The Bambino you reviewed is my favourite on and also the one I own. Didn't use the original strap as it was ridiculously stiff, purchased a crocodile strap for it with a deployment clasp.
D'Accord. And I would usually vote for Timex. I wore an old one (~1980s) Into the ground. I don't they even had a model name for it. But my new Expedition (easy reader, Indiglo OE fabric strap) was not as hardy. The strap self-unravelled after a run of about two weeks. I replaced the band, but I think the crown snapped, and I don't think I was winding it too hard, or overwound it. I've never overground a watch before. So, though it would probably be smarter to just stomp on this one and replace it with something un-Timex. But I'm taking it back to the watch repair shop now. I'm pissed, and I detest throwing away a repairable watch without knowing whether the watch just failed, or I broke it. So, yeah, under these circumstances, I'd be game for a Bambino run. I've never broken an Orient before. I would hope that it's not just because I've never had one on my wrist.
Nothing can beat a Bambino v2 with new Orient caliber with hacking and handwind. Bambino v2 tends to be more successful than some of Seiko Presage models considering lower price point. I have a Bambino v2 with cream dial, i was pretty amazed when i got timekeeping results which are pretty close to Eta 2836-2. Some + 10 seconds in a day when you compare with a Visodate were impressive.
There is something off about the open hearts to me. Sometimes they can look nice, but that one just looks off. I can't quite place why. Maybe the opening looks proportionally too big for the dial.
I am not a watch guy (in the sense that I don't have a large collection), but I do like wearing a decent watch and have been on the fence about whether or not a diver could suffice when wearing a suit (sacrilege to the purists i know). I think I'll be picking up a Bambino in the near future. Great review, thanks for making this!
I think some divers are ok with a suit. The bigger issue for me is that the diver is always a little taller. Sometimes harder to wear with longer sleeves or a jacket.
I recently got a small second. Beautiful looking, but might be a month before I get around to reviewing it. I was surprised it has an exhibition case back.
You’re absolutely on point ! I have both in my collection and I would rate them identically. Also, I hate that the re-issue model was only made in 34mm, otherwise I would’ve added it already.
I don't know why they made that one so small. Well I know why they made it so small, it was being authentic to the original. I just don't know why they didn't make a larger version as well.
A Timex was my first serious watch as a teen so it will always get nostalgia points. I can't imagine Orients being many people's first watch (quartz Timex and Casio more likely). An interesting topic would be "childhood watches." What would get the next generation hooked? Brands aside, I agree that the Bambino is the better watch.
When my son entered high school, he asked me for a watch and chose an Orient automatic with an open heart. He's been wearing it daily for over a year now and loves it.
I really like the retro size and look of the 34mm Marlin silver dial/even numbered/black lizard. My first mechanical was an old Micky Mouse. (that's seen better days) It takes me back to Disneyland being pushed around in those light blue strollers as a child. The Marlin is like the grown up version of that same time period. I have two bambino's so perhaps that's why the Marlin seems a bit pricy. But I know it's only a matter of time..
I'm guessing the mechanical marlins will be on sale more this year. I noticed a few models were starting to be late last year. So you might be able to find one for the price of a Bambino.
A fair comparison and resultant outcome. A company that offers in-house movements is, in my opinion, a real plus. I'm going to go for the Bambino V4 with 22mm lugs and greater strap choice. Cheers mate
I like wearing all my watches regularly so I'm not the biggest fan of the "occasion watch" When I see Roman numerals and an onion crown I immediately think 'dress up' or 'special occasion'. Not my speed. I actually prefer the newer Marlin with the California dial. Personally the Marlin would be a shoe in for me but Timex almost always loses me with the acrylic crystal. Great comparison video.
Thanks for an excellent comparison of these two! I have the gray dial Bambino generation four, and I love this watch. I don’t know of any other watch that gives so much value anywhere close to this price. I too have put a better strap on it which makes a huge difference just as you said. Also, I much prefer the older Marlin with the 50s style numerals to the one you have.
Totally agree with you. Should Timex Marlin’s price was lower than Bambino, it would be a serious contender. Great review as always, looking forward for your Orient New Diver review.
Thanks! Review of the Orient should be next Tuesday. Hopefully, working on it now. Though you can see a preview of it, near the end of my 2018 favorite videos.
Let me say this at the outset, I have 2 Bambinos and I am very happy with them. I have only seen the Marlin in print and specs. I will give the Marlin an edge in history, I remember seeing Marlins in the store. The Bambino gets a nod for having a movement that is made in-house, the Marlin has a Japanese movement. I would like to see and wear a Marlin before I make a judgment as to preference. As far as what I have seen and read, it is a personal choice. Timex has history and brand recognition, Orient is getting there.
The interesting news since I made this is that Timex has now started making some models in the USA. So far they are quartz, and a bit on the pricey side. But I’d love to see them try and put together an automatic in the same way.
Nice Review, and you are probably right on all points, BUT, I'm going for TIMEX, LOL. I just think it's Beautiful, Love the Silver Dial, It to me says, "Ah, Take me to Church, and then to the Ball Game..." I've owned maybe a half dozen Orient's, 3 or 4 Mako's, and a couple Mako XL's...That slate gray Bambino is very nice too. Again, Nice Review, and Awesome Review style......
Nicely done and spot on comparison. Like you said, if the Marlin was say, $150 it would be totally worth it to pick one up just for the horological history. I'd say they could push that price up to $179.99 and still sell them like hotcakes. As it is, I see reviews of the marlin here and there, but seldom seeing anyone just gush over this watch. This movement just doesn't have the chops to demand $250 with a straight face. Looking forward to watching your channel grow in 2019 and happy new year!
Thank you! Even at $150, I'd say it's cool but not great. The bambino still feels better made. But it's good to see Timex experimenting and trying to grow. Hopefully this leads to more automatic versions. Thanks again!
Great comparison video!! The new Marlin is a nice offering from Timex, however, as you said.....the price of the Timex kind of knocks it out of the running for me, as there are some far better watches offered in that price bracket. I also have a small nitt with the short minute and second hands on the Timex. I feel that those hands should always reach the minute tracks, or at least come closer than those on the Timex. I have an Orient V3 with green dial and love it. It's actually one of the only watches out of my collection that my wife always wants me to wear.
Still on my list, but will probably be months out doing one review a week. I have a backlog of watches that I want to go through and then sell before buying more. I was looking at Momentum's field watches, but I also saw their Torpedo Blast Dive watch which looks cool. www.momentumwatch.com/collections/mens-dive-watches/products/torpedo-blast-44?variant=12237025017891 Which ones were you interested in?
Haven't seen this model Bambino for a couple of years now, & I forgot how nice it looks. Perhaps I was just too jaded & burned out with "watch overdose" back then.
I wouldn't mind having both of these watches. But I'd have to change out the Bambino strap with an Erika's original MN strap in either Air Force grey or Navy style. That would be awesome.
If nothing else you also get a lot more options in style. Personally I love this version 2 one. I recently got a small seconds one, but I think I still prefer the V2.
Great video, I wanted to know about the weight and feel of the Marlin, also I thing the Bambino should get a point for in house movements; I just wish Orient did not have such an ugly logo! I have a Bambino and like it so there I go, but the Marlin sort of looked cheap online and I can't find one to examine so this video filled in the blanks, thanks!
Can't argue with your overall assessment; the Bambino is simply the better watch. I find the Marlin mechanical much more compelling. Not only is it $50 cheaper, but its case size and stylized arabics are more evocative of Timex's pre-quartz heyday. As for a future Orient review, I vote for the Bambino small seconds. The running seconds in a subdial is yet another nod to the horological past. It lends visual interest to the dial in a subtle, understated way. To my eye, the Bambino open heart is trying too hard. As always, thanks for another great video!
Thanks! I agree about the open heart. There is just something off about it. I can't quite place whats off, maybe the open heart cutout looks too big for the dial. The Helios version looks a little better with it's gradient dial. But for some reason that's not called a Bambino. www.orientwatchusa.com/collections/sport/products/ra-ag0028l10a
Thanks for the review. I completely agree with all of your points. I own both watches and I have come to the same conclusions as you. If you are a Timex fan and appreciate their history this piece will interest you. That is why I bought it myself. However, if you had to choose one I think the Orient Bambino is the better choice in regards to value and quality. I like my Timex Automatic but you can't beat Orient in terms of quality for an affordable price.
An interesting and well made comparison video as I've come to expect: thank you. I don't think I'm likely to be in the market for either. The Timex is pricey and there's a certain sketchiness about the finishing (the date window could use a bit of finesse, for instance) - and that outweighs the nostalgia and heritage value for me. The Orient appears to represent better value, but is a design pastiche and there's something I don't like about every model. In the case of yours it's the Roman numerals without serifs or even a hint of line weight variation: yup, typography pedant here. The minutes track is spot on, however. Also, both seem too large for their retro styling cues. The main thing which puts me off though is that we're looking at the sort of money which can buy you a freshly serviced vintage watch which will do the job nicely, so long as you're not intent on getting a chunk of gold or a prestige name. I was in a shop which had a selection of nice Smiths watches recently, at £50 a go. I walked out empty handed because, being practical about it I don't need another mid 20th century wristwatch: probably a bad call. :-)
That is a good point about vintage watches. I've never really looked into them too much, my biggest hesitation would be finding a source I could trust. I'm sure there are some good shops around, just never looked into it. Maybe it's a topic I should explore this year. Cheers!
@@RelativeTime It pays to be on good terms with a watch mender. As it happens the shop I mentioned above sends all their watches to the same chap I've been using for years before putting them on sale, which inspires confidence. Factoring in the price of a service is prudent, anyway.
Excellent comparison and I totally agree with your scoring and conclusions. Why oh why did Timex not use the same dial for the automatic, that mechanical version dial was like something out if Mad Men and gave the full retro appeal, then the race would have been closer with the Bambino.
those willing to save and spent MORE, i truly suggest Orient Star Classic. although Bambino Gen 2 with roman markings and blue hands is ultra nice ... i don't mind that version
I have the same bambino, beautiful watch but your right, doesn't look great with casual wear. Tried dressing it down with different natos but just doesnt look right with jeans.
I'm liking it with my new strap. Might not look right in shorts, but I think it's better with jeans. The vintage tan leather looks good next to the rose gold.
These 2 were closer in score than your but I love both of these and to me it comes down to price and a little more upscale look of the bambino so it’s gonna be an orient Babino for me!
Relative Time oh most definitely Timex is doing some great things if cost wasn’t an issue I’d get both but with the bambino being a bit cheaper and I just like the face a bit better on the bambino too but the Timex is on my wish list!
Love, love, love the Bambino v4 but at 42/22 it's a bit large. The small seconds that I have feels a bit too big but it's such a good watch that I decided to keep it.
So 3 Things:
1. The Bambino is 11g heavier then the Marlin. 1:23
No doubt: Orient Bambino wins and for me, in general, Orient offers better value for money than Timex.
True words have been spoken....
I went with the Bambino Small Seconds white dual. Love the Omega look. Worth every penny.
Spot on! I love my Orient Bambino! It's a keeper!
Mine isn't going anywhere. Not sure about the Marlin though.
If you already have an Orient Star, not much reason to get the Timex. Cheers!
I like Bambinos, but the Timex pulls my heart strings
Exact one I would be going for, that dial with blue hands looks class.
The Timex should be around $75-90 for what it has to offer.
True... and I'd buy it, to have, along with my 2nd gen. ver. 2 Bambino silver w/ blue secondhand. He is CORRECT... finding a 21mm leather band I liked was a CHORE!
Yes Timex is a cheap brand not worth the money
The Timex movement is a piece of doo doo. You'd be crazy to NOT go with the Bambino for the $$
Just got my first Bambino. I love it! I got the V4 with the blue dial because I have a bigger wrist and its beautiful!
Great Vid!
I own a blue 2023 marlin automatic no date. It’s stunning. Love the video.
I own both the marlin and a bambino. Love both of them but the marlin looks soooo amazing in person. The dial is beautiful 😍
I just got the Timex Waterbury (same movement as Marlin I believe) and I find the movement pretty loud. Is the Bambino quieter?
I think you nailed it. The Bambino looks like the better watch, but Timex has such strong sense of nostalgia attached to it for some people it'd be the preferable option. I vote for the small seconds next, that's the Bambino I really wanted but wasn't willing to pay for as it was brand new and significantly more expensive when I bought my v3. Thanks for mentioning my video!
No problem, I thought people might like to see the V3 as well. Sounds like everyone wants to see the small seconds.
Ha, it really is Bambino week. Did you see Patrick Market just posted a video about all the things he hates about the Bambino?
Take Time with Patrick Marlet. Sorry phone auto corrected his name.
@@JusttheWatch I knew who you meant :). Must be Bambino week. Don't quite like the video. Hes trying to play devils advocate, and has a few good points. But comes off perhaps a bit too snarky.
Yeah I had the same feeling.
Bambino FTW. I feel a dressier watch looks great in tshirt and jeans as it breaks up the all casual attire. Good breakdown. 👊
That could be true. The pseudo crocodile stock strap didn't quite help either. Although I'm liking it on the new strap, gives it more of a vintage look that I don't mind wearing more casually. Thanks again!👊
Much appreciate the thorough comparison. I enjoyed your very articulate explanations for your conclusions. Great work!
Glad it was helpful!
The silver-ish Timex Marlin shown in this video was the only watch so far that I was stunned looking at it. No other watch ever had this wow-effect for me. (I guess its needless to say here that I am no watch enthusiast ;) )
So the choice was easy for me.
And is for everyone else: Buy the watch(es) you enjoy*
*and can afford :)
Take a look at an Orient Star with a silver white dial and blue hands if you want a wow. Or better yet A Ball Trainmaster or a Ball fireman if you don't like a numbered dials.
I would like to wear the Timex on one day, and the Bambino the other day
Absolutely nice watches! I´d take the Marlin, cause I simply like its dial a lot.
It is a nice classic design. The dark black indices look almost like they are enamel, and really contrast nicely with the silver.
Unfortunately, that little mark near the date window is really distracting to me. That’s likely a QC issue. Hopefully it’s not a typical issue.
I agree. Once noticed, it was all I could see. Under magnification the entire dial seems poorly finished.
Yah it's a shame. Funny thing it's really hard to see in normal conditions. You have to know it's there and stare while you rotate the watch at different angles to even start to see it. But even though I can't really see it, I still know it's there and it bothers me.
Great review. I like the bambino myself. Especially the v4 slate
It's a very cool unique dial. You don't see that color much. Plus it's the only one to come with a suede strap.
Yeah. Its my favorite stock strap.
Before started this video I already decided to buy Timex but after watching this video I changed my mine. Thanks.
Glad you found it useful.
Hope you enjoy it. Orient has become one of my favorite brands.
Ive checked out the bambino for a good year or so, but once I got my snoopy marlin for 135 a couple months ago. Its been perfect
What a brilliant head-to-head comparison! I like the match up between these two.
Thanks!
Btw.. To answer your question... At the end.. You sure got it right... An love that. Brown strap you found for the bambino..
Very thorough review, great comparison, thanks!
I think my collection "needs" a Babmino, being I have a bunch of Timex's. Good video.
I must say you got it right I have just purchased a Bambino to night thank you for confirming my thoughts I got this one because it looks good
great vid and commentary. u hv a calming voice. i already own a g2v3 green bambino. but i have been eyeing this roman bambino gold markers and hands that u have featured here. shall i go for a 2nd bambino or go for an orange mako XL or a blue ray II with rubber strap. hmmmmmm. thanks for this vid❤ also to add, lug width is 21mm right? possible to install a 22mm nato? thanks
Its a good move for timex.
But. They need a few things done:
Great explanation and comparison, the best I came across. Bambino here I come
Thank you! Hope you enjoy it. Which one are you looking at?
All your reviews are pretty thorough.
Thanks! I talk my time when making them. Too much time if I'm honest, but I like the way they turn out.
I am new to collecting I have the bambino 4 and the Marlin both are nice the Marlin is classy
Thank you! Looks like the small second is the favorite to check out.
My favourite form this duel is Timex Marlin. I like this style - I don't have a watch with simply and clear dial like it.
If Marlin will get cut the price to acceptable level, I think I can get one with black dial and silver case :)
I am not fan of Orient or Seiko.
Eventually it breaks in, but there are a lot of good other options out there.
Indeed ! Small Seconds for the win !
Thats pretty good.
Wats the movement?
Yeah, now you got me looking at the Bambino!
Definitely go for the small seconds and definitely not the open-heart, makes it look cheap.
I love my Bambinos. V1 in rose/black, and V2 cream/blue hands.
@@RelativeTime exactly.
That would be a good topic. I assume it would still be Timex and Casio, but I'd have to think about that.
Great review Coach Bombay!
That V5 looks great with the font they used on the numbers.
It has a very different look then the others. I can’t tell from the pictures if one has blue hands, or they are all a black enamel look.
Thanks!
A fair comparison and resultant outcome. A company that offers in-house movements is, in my opinion, a real plus. I'm going to go for the Bambino V4 with 22mm lugs and greater strap choice. Cheers mate
Thanks! Hope you enjoy the V4. I think I'm gonna try to get a small seconds sometime this year.
Great break down and comparison of these. Nicely done!
Thanks as always!
Thanks! At some point I might look for an older Marlin. Would be fun to get one from the year I was born.
Nice job on the video. You are a natural at this. Good comparison.
Thanks. I'll check out your channel.
Relative Time thank you sir 🙏
The Time sunburst dial is very beautiful
Totally agree with your conclusions. To me it is no contest. Bambino is much nicer. I like the one with the blue hands and the cream background.
Orient wins out for me, too. I also like the small seconds. Thanks for posting. 👍 on your channel.
Thanks. Usually if my wife sees a watch she likes, she tries to occasionally steal it. Even though it's way too big for her wrist. Cheers!
Just got my first bambino
My vote is a review of the Bambino small second. Also hoping for a Momentum Watch review.
Still on my list, but will probably be months out doing one review a week. I have a backlog of watches that I want to go through and then sell before buying more. I was looking at Momentum's field watches, but I also saw their Torpedo Blast Dive watch which looks cool.
www.momentumwatch.com/collections/mens-dive-watches/products/torpedo-blast-44?variant=12237025017891
Which ones were you interested in?
Haven't seen this model Bambino for a couple of years now, & I forgot how nice it looks.
Perhaps I was just too jaded & burned out with "watch overdose" back then.
Yah, we all go through "watch overdose" at some point.
I wouldn't mind having both of these watches. But I'd have to change out the Bambino strap with an Erika's original MN strap in either Air Force grey or Navy style. That would be awesome.
Does Erika make a 21mm? I’ll have to check that out.
I’ve been looking to grab the Bambino v5 with the Arabic numerals but no luck. Have they discontinued that version?
I haven't seen it in a while, so maybe they have.
I agree with you, for that price I prefer the Orient Bambino, and it's also more beautiful
But for some reason that's not called a Bambino.

at some points of the video, I thought I am hearing the GoodFellas narrator. nice review and comparison... now i want to see that movie again lol.
That's a huge compliment. Thank you! Ray Liotta did a great job narrating that movie. Very natural, and very engaging.
You git it 100% right 😀 BTW I too plan to get the small seconds, champagne or black
That's what I'm thinking as well. I'm surprised they don't have a version with blue hands.
Very well said. Thank you.
Great analysis. I was considering the marlin this video has changed my mind.
Thanks. It's still a nice watch, Timex just needs to drop the price a bit.
@@RelativeTime Was debating between the 2 also-But I like the look of the Burgundy Marlin. I have not seen a Bambino in that color.
@@anthonygreco12 there are a few v4 with some Color, but nothing reddish. Check out the red orient Kamasu though.
Well done my friend, thanks for that video.
The Orient Star Classic is a beautiful watch, I just wish it had Sapphire.
The cool thing is that the marlin has inspired Timex to make a few new autos.
I understand using 22mm straps on the v4, but I'm still not sure why they made it bigger.
Whats the green strap on the marlin at 4:28? I dont see it in the description
That's an inexpensive Chinese one off eBay. I've had a hard time finding it again. It looks good but is a bit cheap.
Original Marlins are available on Ebay for less than half the price on a current Marlin. I own a dot/dash model from 1967 in great condition.
This is true. I was thinking of trying to hunt down one made the year my brother was born as a present.
@@RelativeTime Great Idea, also look for the vintage Timex Mercury and Sprite Models.
