    I wish you success in teaching this! Stay patient and reward all the small attempts your horse makes ☺️ 🐴Here is the link to the desensitizing video: th-cam.com/video/88ct8sYOVT8/w-d-xo.html

    Going to try this. My horse has had so much time off so mounting is just a bit too exciting/anxiety-inducing so she just keeps swinging her quarters away. She responds really well to groundwork so I'm grateful for this informative, step-by-step instruction. Great work.

    Thank you for this video. I would just like to make two comments: 1) Horses sometimes move away from the rider attempting to mount due to physical discomfort. This could be a back pain issue, a saddle fit issue, or something else. For example, one horse of mine started moving away from the mounting block, and it turns out that his saddle was no longer fitting him optimally as he had lost some weight and it was tipping slightly sideways and pushing into him when a rider put her weight in the stirrup. Once the saddle was adjusted, he stopped doing moving away. So, always good to consider the possibility of a physical issue and ensure that all is well with the back, saddle, etc. before assuming it is behavioral. 2) In the early part of the training in this video, you show the whip being used on the horse's side to ask him to move over. Then when you switch to asking from the other side, you use the whip on the hip. I have seen some horses get confused by such a change. It may be beneficial, therefore, to start off asking the horse to move over away from you by touching the whip on the hip, and work on that from both sides before you try to use the whip on the side you are not on to ask the horse to move towards you.

      I was actually just going to ask about whether it’s confusing to change where the whip(or hand) actually touches. This is good to know in case my horse doesn’t respond.

    My horse is very góod about lining up and standing. My challenge to solve is that just as I put my foot in the stirrup she backs up , keeping me from mounting. She's tall and I'm short so I need to be in a precise spot to mount. Can you help with any suggestions, please?

    I have a horse who is blind on her left side. Would you swap the hand signal for a voice cue in that case? Is that the only thing that you'd change?

    • @JSHorsemanship
      @JSHorsemanship  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Katherine:)
      Yes I would work on using voice and touch.
      Voice to have her step over to me and touch to let her know when to stop. I would still teach it on the wall and off the wall before moving to the mounting block.

    Do you have any tips for horses that starts backing away when you tighten the reins when getting on?

    • @JSHorsemanship
      @JSHorsemanship  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi😊
      One thing you can work on is approach and retreat. In this method you walk your horse up to the block and if your horse backs up you send them forward until they line up where you want them. Once they lineup praise them and then walk them away from the block and repeat until your horse stands for you relaxed. Teaching your horse to line up as shown in the video is another good way to solve this issue too
      ❤️🐴.

    Hey I need some advice about something...
    At the stables I ride, there is this one horse that we have to whip really hard to get her to canter. However, everytime I whip her that hard and that much, I feel so terrible because I don’t think it’s right. The thing is that I do want to do something about it, but I don’t spend enough time with the horse to ‘teach/train’ it to canter easier. Do you have any tips?

    • @JSHorsemanship
      @JSHorsemanship  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi😊
      It is always difficult when a horse is being worked in a way you don’t agree with and you don’t own the horse.
      One thing you can do, if you haven’t already is talk to your instructor about how you feel. Maybe he or she will be willing to try a gentler approach. It takes patience, repetition and consistency to retrain a horse. However it is always rewarding and worth while when you have a happy and willing horse as a result.
