Last summer I was in Wellington and was lucky enough to spend an afternoon with Keith. We talked harp and had tea. It was a great day. It's nice to see the process from start to finish and it's really great to see farter and dauther working together. The finished harp was beautiful!
What a fascinating glimpse into the art of harp-making. I now understand why the price tag is so steep, knowing now the amount of craftsmanship that goes into it. You do beautiful work! Hope to build a harp myself this winter, and this video has taught me that patience is going to be a real asset. Thanks for allowing us to watch you and your daughter work. Appreciate seeing your patience with her.
I can only hope that one day I can afford something like this. What a beautiful process to watch - no wonder the things cost so damn much. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Keith & Liz for allowing us to watch the harp making proses. I have always had a fascination for the harp! I love it's sound. I have a recording of Berlioz's "Te Deum" and in the final section; the March, he used 12 harps. When I play it, I am in harp heaven!! Thank you once again & I wish you well with your harp manufacturing. Giles Hall Tasmania Australia
Wonderful work. So nice to see a video of a professional, who actually knows what he is doing, rather than all of the not so talented amateurs on utube. I've been in to wood for a long time, but nothing as creative as this. Saved the video to watch again. Great job all around.
WOW! I've built a few harps for my own use. One from a kit and two others from plans. You do fantastic work. What a beautiful sounding instrument and such a fine looking one too.
Keith and Liz, fabulous work!!!....and fabulous to watch......this has given me soo much ..just watching this...i've watched as many youtubes as possible to try and understand how to make these harps....this video has made all the hard work look effortless....nonetheless....finally i have the enthusiasm to start my daughter's harp!!!!....many thanks...
I would say a mill but I'm Dutch so I might have the wrong word here. It is a fast turning shizel, so there are a couple of cutting 'knives' attached to the axis to cut off surplus wood. The top part has no shizel and functions the MDF form as a jig that has been temporarily attached to the wood.
27:21 (counter No.) This this mean it took a month to build this? I was going to ask that, and I believe this told me. Loved this video. I have an interest in playing one, and I have a celtic lap harp that's hard to outfit with strings (broke 4 when my cloth case handle oscillated and bounced the tuning key out into the strings). I thought seeing how they're build would offer insight to what the dealers have been explaining to me about the individuality of each harp. I can't say it helped too much with that, but I loved seeing the process. Where's Plimerton? Thanks again.
hello my name is david and I live in Brazil and I'm learning to build harps alone. over here in Brazil nobody builds Celtic harp to Paraguayan harp so the accessories here are impossible to achieve as the pin pitch and semitone keys I build instruments made of wood found in illegal dumps I had to improvise. I use pins for piano tune the strings and I use pin against retreat cd player cool your video

Boa noite!
hahah that's so weird. At the end that girl is playing the same song i'm playing right now for the holidays. It's the "arabian dance" from the nutcracker ballet.
I thought harps were strung with piano wire. The lower register strings on this harp had, IMO, a somewhat dull edge to its sound. I noticed no pedals on this harp. ...different strokes for different folks I guess....

I love the sound made inside the soundboard when Lizzie is sanding the cutouts with plain sandpaper….it’s already making music! (Around 18:30)
What a beautiful instrument!
Thanks for all the hard work and dedication to this art.🙏🥰

These harps are so beautiful if I could get a tall 40 string option I’d love these. Seeing the care they put into it is wonderful.
Great guy - and great harps. He made me a small lap harp for an extended trip round NZ some years ago. A delightful instrument.
Mr. Harrison, I thank you for the educational demonstrating of the harp making. This goes to your daughter as well.
Instrument making is fine art. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this 🙂

There are two different types of harps, some prefer an Irish harp or folk harp, others prefer a pedal or orchestral harp.
what about carving a harp out of stone

Your instruments look and sound beautiful but for god's sake, wear ear protection when you're in a wood shop.
Janis Cortese And safety glasses! Regular glasses won't save those eyes. I agree, absolutely lovely harps. ~
