the folded wings of the corsair were a solution to the fact that it had a huge prop and the landing gear couldn't be to long because it might break because of the hard carrier landings so this was the easiest and best solution
It's because the corsair had an inlet in the wings to cool the engine down and when at high speeds the air going through those inlets would make a whistling sound which was almost horn like and it's to mimic that sound.
I made a jellyfish looking VTOL lander and I’m currently exploring logic gates some more by trying to make a speed triggered auto-slow mechanism Edit: I have gotten it to slow down to a point where it doesn’t get damaged while it’s going downwards!

I recommend watching the show “Dogfights”, the episode titled “Supersonic” because it has a segment dedicated to the F4U Corsair. They used the Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial engine, the same engine as the P-47 and Hellcat, and due to their design and 13’ propeller were the fastest single-engine Allied piston plane in the Pacific. They would used that speed to intercept the kamikazes by “boom and zoom”, meaning they would go full throttle from high altitude, power-scream down on the enemy from above, slash through them, then zoom-climb back to altitude using the speed they had built up. They were nicknamed “whistling death” for the whistling sound of the air flowing over the gun ports on the wings. There is a good video on TH-cam of one of these warbirds currently housed I think in New Zealand demonstrating the whistling. Anyway, the episode of “Dogfights” ends in the recounting of the only ever supersonic gun kill in combat history-that did not involve a US fighter flying so fast it got ahead of its own bullets and shot itself down, which did happen in a wonky test fire incident with an older type of Navy fighter, and is also interesting to research. Final fun fact about the F4U: because the cockpit was so far back, it was notoriously hard to land on a carrier. The pilots loved that they could go full throttle and go from a dead stop to 200 feet in the air, be miles away, and over 200 mph before they could realize they had even taken off, but landing it in the early days was so deadly it was banned from carrier operations-ironically failing what it was designed to do. As a result, the Navy passed them off to the Marines, and led by Greg “Pappy” Boyington of the Blacksheep Squadron became a legend. They were also sold to the British who lacked good carrier planes, and they learned to land the F4U, instead of coming straight in, they came in with a slight turn, holding the carrier in the dip of the wing up until the last second-EXACTLY AS THE DESIGNER HAD INTENDED. Facepalm, US Navy… with this in mind, the Marines were scooped up off their land bases in 1944 and given a crash course in carrier operations and became part of the spear thrust for the last year of the war, from the Philippines to Okinawa. They carried a massive rocket called “Tiny Tim” that was anything but tiny… they could break even a cruiser in half if they hit just right. Only two could be carried at a time, they were so big. It also carried 6-8 standard rockets in load out as well, plus napalm pods or conventional bombs. Overall, amazing plane.
The reason the F-4u has “gull wings” is because the navy at the time required beefy gear so they could drop onto the deck hard . Having long tall gear doesn’t work so well for strength so the people at chance vought designed the classic gull wings. The reason why they didn’t just lower the whole aircraft is from the F-4s ridiculously big prop. Side note the real F-4u had 2100 Horsepower, so if you jammed the throttle it would flip the plane no controls needed.
I believe that another reason for the F4U wing bend was that the propeller was too large so in order to stop it from hitting the deck, they brought the wing down to help with the landing gear situation.

hello World War II nerd here the f4u crosshair had both a ground and naval version (the one which wings fold up being the naval version because of the aircraft carriers smaller wing place) while normally not having it on the ground version the f4u crosshair was built for the main purpose of the destruction of enemy aircraft (atac) overall pretty good plane 7/10

if you want to know The inverted gull wing of the Vought F4U Corsair is to allow the landing gears to clear the huge propeller without the gear itself becoming too big for the plane to handle
Epic Vid as ussual! I also have an idea for a future video, I don't know if you have already made a video on this idea but you should make a vid where you find the best creations then make them better somehow.
You should try recreating the K-max helicopter, its a dual bladed helicopter with a gearbox set up so the blades are always perpendicular to each other and in flight cross over, it would be a cool challenge.
Not a mechanic, but for the hot rod I believe the flimsy bars are supposed to simulate steel cable. Lightweight enough to not mess with the balance of the car, while also being durable enough to hold on the spoiler. I could be wrong, but that's what I think it is.

if you don't hear this enough well here it is, I absolutely love your music especially with that music video I can see, hear, feel, taste, and smell all the effort along with the others that you made.
I love you scrapman don't get me wrong I love your new song has a "bowestte" feel.. but like that's not all good because the beginning feels forced but the actual metal part sounds amazing
The real reason why the wings of the Corsair were bend like this is that the plane had a really big propeller and because of that it would have needed a really tall landing gear. This would have been very heavy and it would have been difficult or maybe even impossible to build it retractable the way they wanted it to be. So they just got the wings lower to the ground so that the landing gear can be shorter
Trailmakers NEEDS to make a DLC That's in space (Not stranded in space) Like actually in space. E.g. Upgrading a space station and rocket to collect new parts while if you are in space for too long then you would die (Even with some sort of space-suit on)
I got an idea for a video from the Car Mechanic Simulator creation by ocaj75. So you basically have to make a car that can detach its seat and move it to another car that doesn't have one while moving and then drive that second car. I don't know if it's possible but it would be extremely cool if it did.
wait... wha.... ive been watching videos on this channel for a good few years now.... and never had any idea you made metal ? I am shocked and curious.
the reason the wings are bent like that is because at the curve the landing gear sits at its lowest point due to the propeller being so big it needed extra space

I love that you were legit curious enough to actually look up the Corsair. It's my favorite WW2 plane.
Omg, my helicopter thing got into your video! You’re totally right, it’s weird, but it looks cool at least. Another great video as always!
The F4U Corsair is my favorite plane of all time, and I can confirm it had miniguns on it, as well as giant horns. 100% accurate depiction
As a ww2 airplane enthusiast, i confirm, that i saw 1 mistake:
The missiles are rocket not missiles on the f4u
I have an RC F4U Corsair.
It's because the corsair had an inlet in the wings to cool the engine down and when at high speeds the air going through those inlets would make a whistling sound which was almost horn like and it's to mimic that sound.
If you've watched planes skipper is an F4u corsair. They were mainly naval aircraft but there were a few stationed on land I think.
would love to see some workshop battles/challenges in trailmakers maybe have a powercore/block limit to keep it semi fair!
“Uhh, speaking of castles, here’s a plane”
9:58 the horn is used to mimic the voice of the corsair, a squadron of corsair in the sky would sound like that from the ground
There’s a weird glitch when a creation has detachable blocks that causes the 🔺vehicle unconfigured
My fav is a tough call between the Rocket Truck and the Diagonal Plane. ^_^

And the f4u also had stall problems and the f4u 4b had 20mm instead of 12.76mm
The corsair F4U had a distinct engine sound and the horn was meant to be the engine sound and actually is a pretty good resemblance ..

The corsair has the wings like that to make the landing gear lower below the plane so the prop does not touch the ground.
