  • @DarkAkuma
    @DarkAkuma 2 ปีที่แล้ว +58

    I remember this episode. It was compelling, creepy and heroing... until I thought about it, and realized there's two ways to look at it.
    As a programmer... I cant help but see things as they would be in reality. As perfect as his recreations of the people are... they are still programs. They are not the real people. They do not have souls. Sure, you could argue that they are now AI's, and sentient. That is and will be a debate for a while as AI improves. But for now... its hard to not also see the flip side in that this is a guy finding a (unique...) way of taking out his issues in a safe environment, instead of the real world. And as a sort of tragedy in that he was killed by glorified video game characters. The morals aren't as clear as the production makes them seem. Imagine being made to feel guilty for mowing down characters in GTA or something. Seriously. That game environment is a amped up version of going home and being a cruel god while playing the Sims or something.
    That said, this click bait title could easily also be "Man Makes Immersive Video Game To Relieve Stress, And It Kills Him". Just saying...

    • @Excalibur2
      @Excalibur2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That title is definitely click bait ... But I would argue that it calls into question what's the difference between extremely complex AI and human intelligence? But you're right, it's still up for debate, and we probably won't ever get that level of AI so it should be fine.

    I'm new to the series and enjoyed most of the episodes I watched so far, but I don't get why most of them have those unnecessary dark endings. Couldn't they've just shown how Robert logs out, finds out his DNA-stuff is gone and then decides to actually talk to the real Nanette or even the real Walton and have some kind of closure?

      dude he had been constantly belittling and torturing the Callister crew for the ENTIRETY of their existence - hell he even made Walt watch his kid slowly die in front of him. The pain and fear they feel from constantly walking around eggshells around the guy makes it entirely irrelevant if he's "good" to their "real-life" counterparts. Plus they technically weren't aiming to 'kill' him, just escape from his control. Him getting trapped in the game and (probably) starving to death is just a bonus.
