A particularly tricky situation is dealing with Zoroark, as Ditto cannot really outspeed it and it can't turn into Zoroark while its Illusion is active. If you want to get really silly, in doubles where Trick Room is relatively common, Iron Ball is the item to pick if you want to consistently go first. Room Service is an alternative if you want to retain a ground immunity.

Playing against ditto in draft is a hoot. There were points where I was running stab hidden power if my stab was super effect to myself. Even if it meant running HP rock mega aero with decreased sp.def IV's to ensure a 2hko on myslef with HP rock. Or running things like HP ground on heatran or grass on swampert. So I could beat it and not the other way around

You’d always want choice scarf since if the target you’re copying is a choice scarf sweeper say like Kartana, you’d also want Choice Scarf so it’ll at least be a 50/50 on whose faster Rather than having a stat increase by one and get outsped by the Pokémon your copying bc it has a choice scarf

I'm not freezai but I think 9/10 times that item would be better than choice scarf. It allows ditto to reverse sweep better by virtue of switching moves, lets him be really annoying against walls. Most importantly you don't lose momentum - if you copy lando-t for example you could use stealth rock and u-turn out whereas with choice scarf using stealth rock telegraphs a free turn to your opponent. The few common cases when the choice scarf is better are where ditto copies a choice scarf user, or the choice scarf speed lets you outspeed pokemon on the opposing team when having this item wouldn't - for example if you copy a weavile you would still outspeed pokemon like tapu koko, dragapult, or other choice scarf users, and you can use that to your advantage by saying "if they ever bring in weavile and faint one of my pokemon i reverse sweep with their own weavile"
@@gbm7690 overall I think there would be pros and cons either way, not having a choice scarf would mean risking getting revengekilled more easily (unless you're transforming into a very fast sweeper) and acting less as a wincon when you manage to turn into enemy setup sweeper (assuming enemy hasn't boosted speed). I'd be very curios to see how the ditto meta would shape if such item existed
Metronome battles rarely include impostor Chansey, but 9nly because of its health. Although transform gives you 5pp for every move (it's just Metronome) you will need to have a Leppa berry with the Chansey to restore the lost pp.but you just have to hope that your opponent doesn't have pressure, or else. FYI dynamaxing doesn't save your pp.
It's crazy to me how Ditto transforming into either Zacian or Shadow Rider Calyrex can essentially guarantee a 6-0, provided the opposing team is not ready.
you forgot to mention why we're using shiny Ditto, and why it runs SpA in some tiers (it's for future sight damage, in case you copy a Pokémon that gets the move)
Why wasnt Future Sight common before Gen 8? is it bc Teleport? And why wasnt Teleport used before Gen 8? most Teleport users are slow as heck anyway so you get the same outcome most of the time anyway.
Teleport didnt have a switch effect before generation 8. The move acutally did absolutely nothing in pvp battles (kind of like how we have abitlies like run away that don't work in PVP at all)
Issues: Not a good revenge killer. You have to manually transform, and unless you are Choice Scarfed then you will be speed tied. Calyrex-S will one-shot if it wins the tie. Zacian will one-shot before you can transform. Four move syndrome. Blissey needs to run Softboiled and Seismic Toss, and wants to run Teleport, Stealth Rock, Protect, Aromatherapy, Thunder Wave, and if it is allowed, Toxic. If you put Transform on there then you limit Blissey’s effectiveness as a cleric and support mon.

a guy at my PC's would always bring quick claw on his dittos so he could always have a chance at speed advantage and still be able to switch up moves

It's really funny how optimized ditto has become. I guess it's not too hard to figure out the best spread for a pokemon that only gets one move.
And only has a tiny handful of matchups where its stats matter so you can very specifically tune it for those situations
