- i love this whole currently popular genre of Cosy Fantasy... and i must talk about my own series, 'The Brenda and Effie Mysteries' - which is an eight book series of Gothic Mysteries about the Bride of Frankenstein. In retirement Brenda moves to the seaside and opens a guest house - in Whitby, where all the wives and girlfriends of all the old Gothic monsters are still living. Many adventures are waiting and many secrets are to be unearthed!

Can't wait for Brenda By Gaslight. X
Yay for Brenda and Effie! I bought Something Borrowed yesterday after finishing Never the Bride. I love the characters. Being in my early 50s, it is so nice to see older female characters that are having adventures instead of the usual youthful ones. The world needs to know about Brenda and Effie!
I'm SO glad you did this video. You mentioned your book Strange Boy in another of your videos but said that it was no longer in print. After watching I searched your name on World of Books and found they had second hand copies for sale. They also had copies of this series but there was nothing telling me what the books were about. The series sounds AMAZING! ❤
Absolutely adore this series. One of the very best examples of the genre.
I picked up the first book a couple of weeks ago!
Look forward to reading it. And love that they are older characters.
Good luck with your Cosy Fantasy series, hope you can surf the current wave of popularity for the genre. I visited Whitby on my last visit to UK, there was some pirate festival in the town so lots of folk in pirate costumes wandering about, fascinating town.
I agree. I love the blending of genres. I don't know that we can get this series of yours here in New Zealand. I must have a search!
I’ve just recently discovered Brenda and Effie (came across them after listening to your radio series with Tom Baker). Being a middle aged woman myself, I love their attitude and the voice you’ve given them.
You surprised me by making me cry twice, with Brenda feeling the pain of every woman she’d ever been, and again with “How dare you talk to me about love?”
Hit a nerve! Really enjoying this series.
this is so good to hear - thank you!
Brenda and Effie…forever! 🥰
Thanks, Paul. I've only just started reading these and was quickly drawn in to "Never the Bride" - so much to enjoy!
I loved the excerpt you read. Look forward to finding and reading your work 😊
I purchased the first two books in the Brenda and Effie series when I saw an interview with you in Writing Magazine. Indeed, it's the fault of these novels that the mother and I embarked upon our initial holiday to Whitby, a place we have revisited often since then. However, I did not know there were so many books in the series and might just have to acquire them when I'm buying books again.
read the first of these earlier this year- found them very charming! Recently bought the second so will be checking it out soon
I’m so happy I found your channel because your content is so different and interesting, I’ve always been attracted to authors from England for I was born a Hastings and my grandfather was a genealogist tracing our name back to 1324BC, the original of which is in the Edinburgh Library in Scotland because very few go back this far. I am impressed with your Brenda and Effie series!! W O W, I love what you read, you are one amazing writer…….the REAL DEAL. ❤ Hey, are you near Scotland?
Imma gonna look them up....
That was brilliant ; I understand more now . Being a random dipper sometimes and not at all methodical ; it simplifies it all for me so I can start at the beginning and end up hopefully where you are thinking . I took a break from fiction today and read around masculinity and mourning and fin de siecle . A bit more Wild Mind and decorated a hat for the eventuality of longed for sun.
Game of Crones !!!!
The WAGs! 🤣🤣🤣
They're hard to find as physical books in the States. I could only find print copies of the first few but managed to get Kindle versions of all of them. (Though I always prefer physical books, the Kindle versions are great for travel.) Used copies of these books seem to be ridiculously expensive here! 😁
They need a US publisher!
@@paulmagrs2474 They really do! I think they would catch on extremely well the more people knew about them here.
