    Weed hangovers are super common!
That feeling of being still high after you’ve slept, is something that even the most experienced smokers can sometimes encounter.
But what happens when that feeling lasts for days?
Can a weed hangover last a week, or longer?
If you’re still experiencing feelings of being high long after the weed should be out of your system -- and especially if you’ve had a bad or frightening weed experience -- it’s very possible that what you’re now experiencing is not the effects of the weed, but the symptoms of Depersonalization and Derealization.

Hey, thanks for your comment 😊 I know DPDR can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and anxiety, and people experience it all the time. The National Institute on Mental Illness estimates that up to 75% of people experience at least one depersonalization / derealization episode in their lives. It's part of your brain's natural defence mechanism and usually it only lasts a few seconds or minutes at a time. It's only when it's focused on as a separate problem (feeling like you're going crazy / in a dream etc) that it can turn into a feedback loop with the anxiety that caused it in the first place. But no matter what caused it or how long you've had it, you can always switch it off completely by stopping that anxious feedback loop. Make sure to carefully read through all the articles and info on my website at www.dpmanual.com and my book The Depersonalization Manual.
And if you would like to speak to a medical professional please don't hesitate to do so. I would recommend finding an anxiety specialist if possible as they will likely be more familiar with DPDR 👍

Suffered from DP/DR, and anxiety for 1 month after eating 1 edible. What helped me to get better was being closed to god, magnesium glycinate for the anxiety, positive mind, eating healthy, constant communication with doctor and now I’m 99% back to normal, It’s been 1 month and 5 days. Good luck everyone I’ll be praying for you all.

@@sensfan7550is your cannabis use making your life worse or getting in the way of what you want to get done? Like do you get high early in the day and then put off going to the store or getting chores, exercising etc done? Have you missed work or school because of your cannabis use? How many times a week would you say you consume cannabis? Do you use cannabis to escape reality? Answering these questions will help you figure out if you have a problem with cannabis, but there’s nothing wrong with using cannabis to relax occasionally.

@@sensfan7550just don’t smoke every day. Look Im 19 and id say when I was 17 I was drunk and decided to smoke for the first time bong. It was a bad idea and I bad trip that night. When I woke up I was still fonctional but a bit off. Just like I was still high. I didn’t at that time but it was depersonalization. This feeling of constantly thinking I was high or being afraid of never going back to normal lasted for about 3 months and the best tip from one of my friend was to stop focusing on it. And it worked. This didnt stop me from smoking weed. I’d say for one more year I smoked really frequently and it was great but ultimately I was getting more and more lazy. I’m a student at college in architecture and I was getting my work done last minute and even tho my grades were good it’s just wasn’t a good feeling. It’s been like 2 months that’s I’ve chose to stop buying weed and focusing on becoming a better person. Started to go to gym and eat better and I started to regain a reel purpose in life. Of course I’ll always smoke weed cause it’s so good for you but just don’t abuse it don’t do it everyday because at the end of every day the only thing you’ll want is to be high. And that’s not the purpose of life. Hope that helps with your addiction but honestly only YOU can change it. It’s all in the mental. If you really want to change it will be easy just like it was for me. It’s not that difficult just take a break.

I had this exact thing happen to me back in the 1980s. I smoked with some friends for the first time, and I was SO stoned that I couldn't function... at all. I was tingling all over and couldn't even make complete sentences. They talked me through it, and I eventually came down. Had a bit of a weed hangover, but it wasn't that big of a deal. I smoked occasionally with them after that. Sometimes I had happy fun times, other times I just felt mentally slow, with a low level melancholy, and generally tired... like I took too much Benadryl. I tried to watch how much I smoked so I didn't have a repeat of that first time experience, but sometimes, all it took was 1 toke, and bam! I was as stoned as that first time. One day I was sitting in study hall and hadn't smoked in a week or two. I had this strange feeling creep over me. It was like when the weed creeps up on you, and then I had my first ever panic attack. It felt as if there was no air in the room and I was going to suffocate. After this panic attack, I went into the DP/DR. Days would pass, and it wouldn't go away. The panic attacks started happening several times per day. This persisted for 5 years. I started drinking alcohol to numb myself, and it helped a bit. Eventually the DP/DR and panic attacks faded to a very low level that I could shove into the background. I now lived in a new city and was going to college there. I was hanging out with some new friends and they pulled out some weed. When it was passed to me, I declined. They asked me why. I explained all about my experience. They insisted it could NOT be the weed. Weed was safe and natural they insisted, so I gave in and took a puff or two. It hit me hard, but I didn't let it make me panic or get anxious. I had developed an effective skill for self talk in regards to reducing my anxiety over the last 5 years. The weed faded later that evening when I was back at my apartment and I went to sleep. The next day I realized that I was once again suffering from DP/DR, and just as bad as I had a few years earlier. After dealing with it (again) for about 4 months, I went to my doctor and asked if he could help. He prescribed a low dose of venlafaxine. After I adjusted to it over the next week, I suddenly felt normal for the first time in years. I have met several people with nearly identical history. After going through the Hell that I did and seeing others who's quality of life was reduced to a shambles because of weed, I vowed to never touch it again. I hate weed with a passion now.

happened to me from a couple edibles on my first time. Haven’t touched it since. But it last 3-4 weeks, crazy anxiety at the beginning, just nothing felt right/real, I didn’t care about anything, music was great lol, but time was passing by slow. Anyways, after reading into it there were a few comments that say STOP RESEARCHING IT!!!
Please, just trust me stop reading up on it, stop thinking about it, just go live your life, find a new hobby, go workout, go sleep, just get your brain distracted. Just like a good song you can’t stop playing, eventually you stop playing it. You need to stop thinking about it and it will eventually go away.

@@Dpmanual Thanks for writing. Imagine this: The year was 1972, I was 20 and having the time of my life. I had just got a great job and was feeling great. A buddy of mine and I set off the smoke some weed, which I enjoyed. We stopped and bought a bunch of jelly donuts and ate them on the way to the local park. (My blood was probably pure sugar by time we got there.) I rolled up a huge joint as we parked of some unknown weed. It started raining as we lit it up and started passnig back and forth. All of sudden everything turned into a Peter Max cartoon and I started to laugh and enjoy trip. But then I got a little anxious thinking the pot was laced with something! The next thing I knew I fell into an unending series of "why" questions that would not stop!!! The panic set in and I was sure I was going to go completely crazy!!! I then felt like I was outside of myself, just totally detached. OMG, how scary it was and felt so weird! I begged my buddy to get us out of the park. We went and got some 3.2 beer. I thought it would help bring me down. Well, I was terrified for the rest of the night. I went home and slept ok, but the next day I was anything but normal. I went to my new job and started to feel all those feelings of unreality! What had I done??? Then I was on the outside looking in again, like through a pane of glass! Wow, more terror and trapped at my new job!!! I suffered from the fear of panic attacks for over twenty years after that until I finally was clinically depressed enough from the wear to seek out a therapist. Thank God, I found a good one. The education began and I slowly began to understand what had happened to make me a prisoner of panic all those years ago. One more thing... if would have tried to seek help back in the 70s, it would have been futile as little was known about the science. They probably would have gave me shock treatments!!!

I thought I was going insane and couldn't live a normal life again.
And the more I read about overdosing and all that I thought I would have to go to a mental hospital and needed to take medicine for the rest of my life.

    thank you so much!!
    Im 19.
i had hhc for the first time more then a month ago, two puffs, made my life hell, i had panic attack for the first time that day, thinking i was gonna die, felt so horrible plus i was high.. 4 days after i was just shaking and felt dizzy, then it stopped somehow and i was okay for 2 days then i had another panic attack when i though i was gonna die when i just breathed wrong before bed, i was thinking that was the end, i never had a panic attack before, since then i had anxiety and i felt really nervous about my body, like is there something wrong with me? every pain on my body every pressure, every weird thing was scary i started noticing everything what's going on with my body and i was thinking i have health anxiety for a long time, then the i had nonstop ringing in my ears witch caused anorher panic attack, then the depersonalisation hit, i was so scary i thought I was going insane, then i noticed that i don't feel like myself anymore, which feels scary because my only fear was losing myself, now i feel like im not even here, i cant even go anywhere because what if i panicked, i was at work yesterday and just stared like a damn robot, my eyes wide open, my muscles stiff, occasional tics, my coworkers was so confused about what's going on with me, i tried so hard to look normal or act normal, then i panicked went downstairs and cried because i noticed I can't even do things normally like i used to, then i saw one of your videos about depersonalisation and it felt amazing, i feel better still not like myself and anxious, that's why im going to psychologist so i can work in myself already

I am happy to have found your channel. I’ve had DP/DR for 20 years. I had it before there was a name for it and before there were any support groups or understanding about it. I’m happy things have changed so much. I’m happy that your experience lasted only 2 years. Mine started after childhood and teen emotional trauma and then weed. In all my time with this feeling, it never changes. It only gets worse at times and then returns to the normal baseline. Do you know any resources or info about such long term symptoms?

1:18 I took 4 instead of one yesterday. I read so many reports of people doing it and I thought it would never happen to me. But at some point I thought the weed probably wasn't decarbed enough so it doesn't work. Then I started eating them like food/candy instead of a drug, pretty stupid I know. About 24 hours later and I'm still feeling woozy but it's not too bad, time is going way faster but I'm actually productive learning and I don't get bored from learning instantly like I usually do. Probably not depersonalisation.

The experience I had with high THC content markedly differed from that with lower or medium-strength strains or smoking blends containing small amounts or low potency. I recognize the sensations; the effects are unpredictable and vary across strains. Certain strains are particularly unpleasant for me, though others may find them more suitable. The sensations often resembled motion sickness, similar to the feeling of sinking in ocean waves. I no longer use cannabis and feel better for it. The dissociative highs were especially disagreeable, frequently causing dizziness and nausea, and once even leading to vomiting. I regard the plant as neither a friend nor an enemy; to me, it is a neutral entity that impacts me in its own way. I have stopped using it and choose to abstain from any recreational substance use, including alcohol and anything that alters my perceptions. This personal choice does not align with the preferences of some of my friends, but we respect each other's decisions. After a few months of experimenting, I ceased using it. This experience, though less severe than the 'reefer madness' narrative, taught me an important lesson: to respect plants that can both teach and punish. It reinforced my understanding of what is suitable for each individual. I realized that Cannabis Sativa does not serve a significant purpose for me. Objectively, it does not fulfill a medical need, except for teaching me that it is not compatible with my biology or brain structure. You're not alone, and you will be okay, trust me and yourself and the surroundings and understand that you're real and inside reality and it is a normal typical reaction to new substances, as a reaction when a person body firstly needs to recognize the substance ingested.

I feel like with my case it’s a little different. I think I naturally have a high sense of self awareness and can typically tell when something shifts it. With weed I’ve noticed that If I do it semi consistently meaning a few times in a week. I notice when I’m not high that I have small coming ons of the symptoms of DP DR. I’m kind of new to weed, I’m 23 and only started it within the past year but noticing those side effects has made me want to never take it again especially since I know the literature on weed and its effects on the brain. Weed has a lot of great short term effects but the medium to long term effects I was noticing completely turns me away from it

Hey, thanks for your comment 😊 Don’t worry, that all sounds like a very typical case of weed-induced DPDR to me. I know it can be frightening but remember that it's just your body and brain's natural response to stress and anxiety. It's not permanent and it can't hurt you 😊 You can and will recover. Make sure to read through all the info and articles on my website at www.dpmanual.com

Hey I would greatly appreciate a response to this comment because it would really ease my worries. I’m 16 and have smoked pretty much every day since I was 14 (really bad I know) and recently I have felt super disconnected from reality and like a lot of the things you are describing, but I never had a panic attack or bad high or anything. I just kinda am like this now. I stopped smoking a few days ago and I’m not feeling any better. It’s really scary because although some symptoms are what people talk about when they describe dpdr, some seem like they are unique to me. Like I can’t even watch movies or shows anymore because there’s too much going on for me to even understand. I hope this makes sense

      @Dpmanual  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Hey Steven, thanks for your comment 😊 I know DPDR can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and anxiety, and people experience it all the time.

For the past 4 years I have been doing it a couple times per year and noticed myself feeling lazy after but that’s about it until this year. I have done it a couple times a month this year and now a lot of these symptoms arise the next couple days after smoking. Could they all be from the first bad experience? Could it just be my bodies reaction to weed but now I’m just doing it frequent enough to notice a pattern?
